I just thought we could use a thread to complain about the supps as we see fit. If nothing else, someone will be panicking about Cornell or Missouri in October. 🙂

I also have a question, just to make sure I don't miss anything huge here: Western has a supp, but no fee, and Davis has neither a supp or a fee... right?

I'm not applying to either Western or Davis, so I'm no help there, but I will help you rant about supplementals :scared: As of right now, I am despising NCSU's 5 essays (ugh!), especially the diversity question. I've started on Auburn's "why do you want to go here" and haven't really started either Illinois or Iowa's. Gah, by October 1st I think I'm going to explode :boom:
Edited to add that LSU's isn't due until Nov., so I'm not even thinking about that one right now!

I am really despising Western's 11 supplemental questions! Grr. And I HATE, HATE, HATE Ohio's questions they are evil.

Last year Western had a $50 supplemental fee (just looked they still have that fee). Davis does not have a mandatory supplemental but there are some optional forms you can fill out and send in.

And I am still hating Ohio's questions...they are driving me crazy.

LOL....Western's isn't too bad; it is not my favorite but I do feel bad for those applying to Tuskegee. I looked at their website for 30 seconds and my brain imploded.

Haha, I felt the same way. That was one of the main reasons I decided not to apply there; I wouldn't be able to figure out how to apply!

Minnesota has a fee ($75) but no supplemental...um yeah..all is all have to say on that one but I do love the school so I dont mind.

Tufts wasnt all that bad, but it seemed like it when on foreverrrrr

LSU took me the longest to complete and I just saw the due date for November! I was like are you kidding me!

Oh and I cant stand looking at the countdown clock, its freaking me out.

Good Luck everyone!

Amen to Tuskegee having the worst website! For the US that is. Have you guys tried to navigate any of the Australian websites?! Ridiculous. And I'm struggling with the Dublin one as well. I spent a couple hours last week trying to find the link to their supplemental app. No success.

Tuskegee's is the WORST!!! (as I have previously complained on another thread). Most horrible uninformative website/application I have ever attempted. Agreed on Dublin's too...I don't think their supplemental stuff is due till later, although I was not able to ascertain this info from the website at all. Didn't help me at all that all non-US schools refer to their vet degrees as "undergraduate"--had a few interesting communications with admins about that one 🙄

I looked at Tuskegee's site last year and ran the other way. My current theory is that you're more likely to get in because so many people are turned off by the website!

Currently working on my supplementals for Ohio (ahhhhh), Illinois (holy essay pants), and of course Tufts' whole other app. They save all the info from the previous year, thankfully, so it's more a matter of updating and redoing essays. Washington's supp isn't too bad, thankfully. And Penn just has the one sheet.

I wrote the whole essay for Illinois on Sunday, I think today is "editing" day. Both Dr's I work for went to Ohio and they nearly peed themselves when I told them the questions.

I am having trouble navigating the Australian ones..omg it's so ridiculous.....
But I am working on Western's supplemental...man so many questions. =O

Since I'm working on Ohio right now, here's a question for my fellow applicants. Supplemental question number 2, about the non-biomedical challenges, asks you to provide a plan for how to address it. I was sort of going on the basis that this is a plan to address it for YOURSELF, as opposed to a general plan to address it within the profession, but now I am doubting myself. Anyone else understand what I'm talking about?

Does anyone know how long Auburn's "why Auburn?" essay should be? I could email them but I'm obviously too busy studying toxicology...

I like LSU's website.

Me too. One of the best I have seen. Very informative, easy to find info and actually updated frequently. I really liked the directions for submitting GRE scores with the screenshots from that site, because the GRE one is hard to navigate. And believe me, when you get to that point you will be checking that online application status every chance you get, prob. as much as checking SDN.

Agreed. Very frustrating. The limited amount of information that is on there is not current and it is very hard to navigate. It is also very repetitive. Basically asks you everything that VMCAS does so it gets really annoying to enter the exact same thing again. It also just randomly stops working, so get your application in early. And Tuskegee applicants be forewarned, the admissions person is not the greatest. If it is the same lady as last year, she got the job because her husband is a student, NOT because of experience. 😡 Made for some frustrating emails...

Mine was 3 short paragraphs long...and I got in so it must have been ok. I think one long paragraph would be fine though. I only had so much to write because I went there for undergrad. Good luck!

...i gave up on emailing her and started calling her on a daily basis haha. but this was before i decided not to apply to Tuskegee--huge weight off my shoulders!! 😀

I'm so glad you started this thread! I'm actually pretty sure Davis DOES have a fee, as well as optional supplemental documents. I want to tell you Davis' is $60, but I would check AAVMC, since they added new documents pertaining to supplementals.

I'm almost done with all of my supplementals (eight schools. eek.) - just submitted CSU's, in fact. I got the easier ones done early (bless you, Mississippi and VMRCVM) but still have to write one of the two essays for ISU and have to re-write the essay for Illinois, since I wrote an entire essay and then changed my mind. Then I have to finish up AVC/UPEI, make packets to ship off to KSU and AVC/UPEI and I'll be done.

The countdown on the main page is REALLY not helping :scared:

Thanks, that helps a lot! I too was wondering how long it should be.

Anyone else doing the NC State supplemental? And how is everyone's Iowa and Illinois essays coming? I'm working on my NC State answers, and have some ideas for Iowa and Illinois but haven't actually written anything yet 😱

Ohio's is making me want to pound my head into a brick wall. Especially the integrity one. I can come up with a good example of a time when I demonstrated integrity, but a time I DIDN'T? I don't know! I like to think I'm a pretty honest person, so that one is going to be difficult. Is that question tripping anyone else up?

Here's what I have written so far for the integrity question:
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

No, seriously. :uhno:

From LSU's supplemental application form:

Please list any other names under which your transcripts may be listed, separated by a coma.

Okay, I can do that - I need a break anyway. But how long should I remain comatose? :d

And for anyone doing Auburn's supplemental, how many of you think they put "Auburn=s School of Veterinary Medicine" just to see who is anal retentive enough to fix it with an apostrophe?

Ok, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed it, and was anal enough to fix it. Who knows? Hopefully it'll give me brownie points

It's honestly embarrassing when the schools don't bother to proof read what they publish. It's a reflection on their status and professionalism. No wonder both schools aren't top tier.

Wow...a little harsh there.

Is it bad that it took me about 45 seconds to realize that you were referring to the missing m in coma? My brain is so fried.

It took me wayyy more than 45 seconds to realize the missing m! That whole comment makes more sense now!

I have a random question that I hope someone can help me with. It's not totally relevant to the topic, but in working on my supplementals and answering the "Why here" question, I've begun to think about tracking and whether I think it's good or bad. Does anyone know about how many schools have different tracks for students in the last couple of years? I know specifics about some schools, but I am not really sure how common it is in general.

I could look at each website to find out, but I'd rather not.

Ohio supplemental...Please describe a time when you were a lying, immoral *****hole who shouldn't be allowed into vet school.

Thanks, Ohio, great essay question. SHEESH!

I wonder if our answer will be interview fodder later. :scared:

I don't see any merit in this statement. LSU forgot to add the second m in the word comma. SO FRICKIN' WHAT. Top tier? Guess what. NO ONE CARES ABOUT VET SCHOOL RANKINGS! Get over it. :boom:

Does NCSU's supp app get automatically submitted on October 1st? I paid the fee but didn't see a submit button. lol I'm making myself nervous.

I don't know why I'm fueling the fire - but, whatev, I'm waiting for my tea to brew. 🙂

Davis has MULTIPLE typos on their website...and they are "top tier" (although we ALL KNOW THAT DOESN'T MATTER!!!)

Do I think they should proofread a little more carefully? Yes - it is a reflection of the school and there should be as little error as possible.

Do I think that this explains why they are or aren't top tier? uhh.. NO. Last I checked, admissions and IT staff don't do very much instruction...

WSU's supplemental has an area for putting animal/veterinary/research experience NOT listed in VMCAS.

Is there some type of experience that shouldn't/can't be included on VMCAS?

It is kind of silly that you'd have something relevant to WSU's application, but not listed on VMCAS. Although, you did make me realize that I mistakenly put something on the WSU application under research that I already had listed under veterinary on the VMCAS. Oh well. Aready submitted both app's.

For those of you applying to Illinois - how long did you/are you making your personal response? The instructions don't give an actual character or word limit, just that it should be "about a page" in length. I don't want to get cut off but I suppose they'd give an actual limit if they were going to do that. Thoughts? 😕

EDIT: Mine is currently 3,625 characters in length.

Yes, it does. As long as you've paid the fee and filled everything out, you should be good 🙂

Wow VMRCVM has a super easy supplemental. It basically asked why did you apply here and where else did you apply? It didn't even leave you room for more than 3 or 4 sentences on why you're applying. I was expecting to spend a while on this and it took like 30 minutes maybe.😀

No joke!! Like, you have to say SOMETHING, because if you said you'd never lacked integrity then you'd...well, be lacking integrity. But I also feel like you have to tread softly and be careful what you say! It's a trick!!

For Ohio's lacking integrity question I am not doing a time where I was dishonest. I am talking about a time where I did not live up to my own morals. Where I fell short and then I am explaining how I resolved it. That is the easiest question for me so far. Some of the others I am having a harder time on.

I just finished Mississsippi's supplemental. Probably the easiest one I have ever done! No essay questions at all. It made me happy inside. 😀

That's a really good idea. I've looked up the actual dictionary definition of Integrity and I've been trying to look at it from every possible angle, but that's one I haven't considered yet. More food for thought...

I loved Mississippi's supplemental. If only all of my supplementals were like Mississippi's and Kansas's....

Is anyone else having trouble logging into the CSU supplemental this week? I created my account and imported my old application data with no trouble a few weeks ago, and now it doesn't recognize me and keeps giving me errors! Am I just that special, or are others having issues too? Thanks!

ETA: Agreed about Ohio! I am having troubles with several of the questions, and feel nauseous every time I try to work on them!

I tried the CSU portal just now, and got in fine. However, I already submitted, so it takes me to a different page now.

I haven't had any trouble with CSU's supplemental website for the past few days and I still haven't submitted it yet. Just tried logging in again and had no problems.

Anyone else a bit put off by the formatting of the site? It just seems so...low tech (yes, I realize that's not really a term). I dunno, it's just so clumsy to navigate around the site and there are so many ways it could be improved to be more user-friendly. But clearly, not a reflection of the school itself.

Anyways, just thought I'd complain a bit since I've been mindlessly entering in course info for the past few hours. 😛

Hmmm... and of course I waited until Friday night to try it again after having trouble last weekend! It won't even let me create a new account! I hope there is tech support...

I don't know about that. Have you seen the classroom for the 1st years?

I am still working on mine, about 2500 char right now, but I am typing it in word as arial 12 pt and just keeping it to a page. Almost there though.

I don't think it will cut you off, but I haven't tried to paste it into the website yet.

**Briefly coming out of my "app, school, and work" cave to post, then headed back under...**

RE Illinois: Mine is around 3500 characters right now, and just at a page at 12pt. Times New Roman. And I need to edit it about a million more times. Blargle argle argle! :beat:

I plan on doing it for myself, not a general plan. Since no one ever responded to this. :d

GUYYSS... are you doing bullets for the list of handling?

And, what do you think counts as "proficient"? I fall into the 'limited experience, but enough that I'm not terrified any more' category for equines. I can't decide if it's warranted to include or not.

Also, just wanted to throw in an additional "UGH" for the integrity question.
