Taking classes at com. college? Good/Bad idea?

I am currently a freshman at a community college under some circumstances🙁. I will transfer to a better university next fall. I took many of the basic core curriculum classe at last summer school (local government, national government, art, history I) . I am now taking cal I, history 2, intro to philosophy, and psychology. I had straight As so far. I read from a post here saying that some of the dental schools rejected their applications because of their community college credits. So, long story short. I am setting my schedule for the next semester. I am thinking about taking both general bio&chem. and cal II at my com. college. Would that be a good/bad idea? Would it effect A LOT when I apply a dental school? My deepest appreciation to anyone who is taking the time reading my post and their advices.😍

I would highly suggest you to NOT take any science and other prereq courses for Dental school at the community college. Since you will transfer to a four year university, just wait it out and take it then. Of course you do not want to waste time and just sit around until you transfer, I suggest you take non-science at the community college while you are there.

Also, if you know what four year universities you will transfer to, go to their website or contact the school to give you the list of community college courses that will be transferable to their four year university. Students who transfer from one university to another run a risk of having few of their courses not count towards their degree. So make sure that all your community college courses will be transferable to your designated four year universities.

IMO buddy, you can spend 2 years at CC and take gen chem,bio I, II and even physics I,II at CC, the rest should be gen. ed. classes IF you intend to spend 2 years there. I f not, just take gen.ed. and transfer. The rest of higher-level classes take at 4-year college/univ. and GET A's in them to demonstrate that you are conpetwnt enough in a big school (so that nobody thinks that you got A's only because you went to CC).
I agree with the above posters that some schools have limits on CC work BUT think that you'll be studying in only one d-school, so choose schools wisely --go to their websites or call them and ask about their policy-- and then apply to those schools.
Some schools don't have limits for CC courses BUT some school have limits such as 0,30, 50 CC credits --so just choose schools wisely.

I was the person who made that thread, and who got rejected from 3 schools solely b/c I had taken my pre-req at community college. So, do not take more than 1/3 of ur classes there, and before you apply, make sure you have at least a year or 2 of sciences at a 4-year university

I just want to thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for replying. I did a little research on prerequisites for different dental schools. Some of them have english as prerequisites, some of them dont. So, different schools have different policies. So, what exactly are the common prerequisites? Should I keep taking higher level of math? or should I take some second language. I guess that it's best for me to talk to an university advisor. Will my cc grades/record show up automatically when I apply to a dental school. They won't reject me just because the fact that I have spend the first year of my college at a cc, right? Please give me some advice. Thanks to you guys again!

Just a follow-up. I have no interest to go into speciality dentistry or academic dental research at this point. I guess that I only want to have a general practice of my own. The point is that I don't want to work for any corporations. Yeah, still a young hippie.😀 What kind of dental school should I be looking for? Any advices would be appreciated.

As I said before, if it's only 1 year at CC, don't worry about that then. If it's more, check d-schools. I know poeple who took gen chem, bio, physics I, II at CC and they finished their undergrad at 4-year school. Just follow policies of the schoolsyou want to attend/apply to.
