I had some personal problems during my junior year of college, and it really lowered my GPA. Should I explain what my personal problems were and why my GPA was lowered in my personal statement or should I just leave it out?

Or is it necessary to put this in the special circumstances section?

My GPA is really low, and right now it is at 3.0.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You don't want to be too negative, but need a supporting statement of why your GPA is low and what you are trying to do to improve them. Keep them short, since you have better things to talk about. 👍

my GPA is like a 2.5 and I'm not even talking about it. bring it up if they mention it, otherwise, the more you talk about it the more they will focus on it. Just be positive and motivating on your PS

I've read some great PS's that only briefly mention the situation. They didn't concentrate on it and it made the essay flow better. It's a PS, not a "why I messed up" essay. If you have something interesting to say about it, say it and move on. If your GPA is alarming, they will ask you at the interview either way, so it's up to you.

A 3.0 is not bad and many students have been accepted to pharmacy school with that GPA. Just make sure other parts of your app are strong. If do you mention it, make sure to make it brief and not sound to negative. Something like 2-3 sentences max. I would mention how you are different now and have the ambition to do better and get As.

I explained very briefly why GPA was so low to start out with (I was immature and over-confident) and when into more detail in interviews when asked.
