My real estate agents, Kendall Rojas and MJ Henley, were great. Here's a link to their website.

I got a lovely condo close to campus. If you want to buy, you should look into condos or townhomes, because the houses near campus were all built in the 1930s, so they have no garage and only one bathroom. Plus, they are REALLY expensive. There are some nice affordable houses but you need to look a little farther away, about a 15 or 20 minute drive from school.
Spots to avoid - Como (unless you own an AK-47). Generally close to school is a nicer area. Stay west of I-35.
I was not able to go to much of Spring Fling in my year, just a small part of the second day. It didn't set me back any. I must have missed any interesting stuff that may have happened.
I suggest that if you are looking for an apartment, that you get one close to school, since you will be so busy that a commute will waste too much time.
Here are some close apartments. I can't tell you much about most of them personally:

I looked at Dorothy Lane apts. They are rather old ("charming" but would go up in smoke if a fire started, and poorly insulated), small efficiencies and one bedrooms made from old houses that were divided up. The lady who runs them is really nice and will accept pets. She also has a few duplexes. No parking except in the street. These are within a block of the school.

I'll go out and look at the apartments near where I live - they are in a nice area but aren't internet-searchable. I'll get back with more info.
Good luck!
