Temple/LKSOM Post-Bacc ACMS 2020-2021

I applied last week on Thursday evening. Should I be worried?
Oh my bad I misread your question I thought you meant hearing back after the interview. I heard back 6 days after the interview but 2 business days with interview invite after applying. I wouldn't worry that much since the virus is probably delaying their reviewing.

Do you mind sharing your stats?

Also did they email you or did you get a notification on PostbacCas?

Anyone who was complete in January hear anything yet? I thought rolling admissions would favor us...but I guess not 🙁

Is there any evidence of students getting admitted to ACMS with a 3.4 sGPA and a <3.4 cGPA? Trying to decide if submitting my application fee would just be a hefty donation...

I think a few of us who interviewed on 15th/16th April were complete in Jan, Feb or March. Also, rolling admissions generally means they send out acceptances as they go along interviewing instead of all at once on a specific date, it's not necessary that they review in order of submission. So there's always a chance till the end!

There have been people admitted with slightly lower GPAs but I'm not sure how it would correlate with the timeline. Since it's towards the end of the application cycle, maybe its more competitive? I would email and check with admissions. If you can afford to, it doesn't hurt to throw your hat in the ring and see!

Has anyone emailed them asking for the status of their application?

I personally know someone who did. When I called them they said that’s typically what they consider competitive for the program but they even said people with lower get in and it’s more about how competitive your whole application is. The person I know got in had a sub 3.0 but had extensive clinical experience and according to them they weren’t the only ones.

Awesome, thank you for sharing this. Will be finalizing my app today then I suppose. 🙂

Do you think people are still in the office with the virus going on? I'm worried.
I know they are at least working from home. Even if you can't speak to someone, if you email them they are super quick to respond. I even has someone respond to me on a Saturday morning.

I emailed them when I first submitted my application asking them if they had a portal and they just said to look at the notifications on postbaccas. I'm scared that I will annoy them lol.

I don't think you'll annoy them! I emailed them a LOT with various questions while I was applying. You can even say "I am sorry to email again but..." if you're really worried

Did you already get into the program? if you don't mind me asking what were your stats?

No, not yet. But I have my interview in May.
cGPA 3.3, sGPA 3.0 (I know, terrible 😢), haven't taken the MCAT yet but 1780 on SATs
Tons of hours from scribing for 2 years, volunteering in an emergency department for about a year, volunteering at the food bank, and I did a study abroad internship in which I shadowed doctors for a month. What are your stats if you don't mind?

Ok my application is pretty similar to yours. My gpa is slightly lower though. I have cumulative of 3.05 but I still have my last semester's grades to come in. My stats aren't too great. I haven't take the MCAT yet. My ACT is 30. I have lots of scribing hours for a year now, volunteered in the organ transplant unit since my freshman year, tutored k-12 students in math and english, a year of lab research on parkinsons disease and an abroad internship where I volunteered and shadowed doctors for almost 2 months.

Yea I also still have my last semester's grades coming in. My school's semester ends at the end of May, though so I doubt they'll consider it. Did you have okay grades in all the prereq classes?

Yea, I'm finishing up my last prerequisites this semester. I have a C- in Ochem but i'm retaking that. Besides that I managed to get the classes done. I'm really nervous. I saw that some people got an interview with a gpa lower than mine but I don't know.

Yea it definitely sounds like you're in good standing to receive an interview! I think you should just wait at least another week and then reach out!

Yea, I will wait till next week and then reachout hopefully something comes before then. Did u apply to any other programs?

Would it annoy the ACMS adcoms and hurt my chances if I emailed them about the status of my application? Has anyone done that before?

Hey, congratulations on getting an interview! When did you receive your interview invite and when did you submit your application/casper results?

Yea I applied to ACMS as well (haven't heard anything back quite yet). I applied to a few other schools as well and I am still waiting to hear back. You?

Anyone ask about their application update? It's been so long since we have heard anything.

I want to ask them that but I'm just worried they'll see me as impatient?? I feel like simply emailing them might affect their decision but I'm probably just being paranoid lol

Not that many actually. I was mainly interested in the ACHS postbac program.

I truly think it wouldn't work against you like that LOL. But also the reverse is true in that it doesn't affect the status of your application at all - if they haven't made a decision on you, they wouldn't be able to tell you anything new anyway/ if they had made a decision, they would email it out to you without you having to ask. What's interesting is that they only send rejections after the application deadline, which means that they continue to evaluate your application IN CONTEXT of the application pool as it keeps growing. There have been people who applied early and only received interviews towards the end of the cycle, so it's not like they take one look and throw out your application. They do keep re-reviewing, so honestly it's in your best interest that the program works this way! Also, instead of just asking for an update, I would suggest sending out an update letter if you have new things to add. They were very receptive to mine! (gives you a legit reason to email/interact with them)

Thank you!! What things did you include in your update letter if you don't mind me asking?? I was planning on shadowing around this time if it weren't for the pandemic but obviously I can't, and haven't heard anything from scribe jobs I've applied, so there's not really anything I can include (except for Spring grades perhaps when they come out)

Hey, do you think it means something if I write like an update letter that includes a volunteer position during the pandemic. I'm helping my neighbors and elderly people in my neighborhood by going grocery shopping for them. I'm also still scribing in the emergency department.

For current students, what does the typical day look like as a postbacc student? How many/how long are breaks, how many classes per day?

Hmmm I'm assuming you're still in school then so it makes sense that you wouldn't have much to update on. I wrote about a new service position and some changes in my scribing job, as well as this online class I'm taking. It would be too late to send an update letter once your spring grades come out, right?

Well I heard they don't deny people until the application deadline so as long as they come out it before that it might be worth sending a letter

Does being in or out of state affect admissions?

Is it too late in the cycle to apply? Also are they ok with unofficial transcripts being uploaded in the meantime?

Interviewed a couple of weeks ago and got the dreaded "continuing candidate list". Anyone else with me? Any tips/suggestions to get off the waitlist?

When did you interview?
When did they email? Today?

With you and just got the email
I know I sent them an update this morning because I had an additional publication. They emailed back but with no status change. Maybe they’re combing through the apps as we speak and emails are sporadic?
