So, I found out today I had to take a chemistry assessment to get into a freshman level chemistry class? I already have a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences and still had to take it. I was astonished I did well on it but is this assessment common at most Universities? If I get into a P1-4 program would I have to take something like this again?

I am shocked that you can't take your transcript into the office and have a counselor/adviser provide you with a verification of course completion to waive you up to whatever level of Chemistry is actually appropriate for you.

I had to test into Calculus even though I already took Calculus. They had some rule about math classes that are more than two years old. Maybe it is something like that.

To the OP, no, you shouldn't have to take another assessment like that ever again.

I asked and they said I might not have to take it if I took the specific courses already (which I had not), I just said I would take the test anyways. I passed but the class I need is full so I am going to see if I can get on a waiting list.

If your question is: is this it common at most universities ?

Yes, it is. At my former school it was a required practice. Reason being that people fill up valuable spots and then fail out of classes they are not prepared for. You most likely would not, given your degree, but I don't understand why you need to take intro chem in the first place if you have a biology degree. Most biology degrees, if not all, require at least 4-5 semesters of chemistry courses - a year of general + year of organic + either biochem or analytical chemistry depending on your concentration.

If your question is: would I have to do this in pharmacy school ?

Yes, sort of. I just got a package from my school with things I need to start studying for and read before the school even started, so I can take the exams.

I took pre-cal in 1995 and cal in 2008. I have no idea why school did not ask me to take a placement test before registered for calculus.

My focus for my degree was Evolution and Ecology. This was mostly genetics, math, and general biology... only two chemistry classes: Intro and Biochem.
