Does anyone else feel like they are going crazy?

I can't wait to hear back about the interview invites lol... hopefully they come out next week so we can make travel arrangements in time if we need to!!!!

:scared:

I'm going crazy hoping my boyfriend gets an invite :xf:! I'm almost as nervous as when I applied.

I don't think I can take the torture of waiting any longer. It's driving my husband nuts because I run straight to our computer as soon as I get home from work. He tells me I need to relax.

Here are a few statistics from previous years. I don't know how many of them were incomplete. Hope this helps
Fall 2006
For the fall 2006 class the College received 575 applications for 76 seats.

Fall 2007
For the fall 2007 class the College received 604 applications for 77 seats.
Fall 2008
For the fall 2008 class the College received 583 applications for 87 seats.
Fall 2009
For the fall 2009 class the College received 518 applications for 87 seats.

Fall 2010

For the fall 2010 class the College received 440 applications for 87 seats.

To follow up on this, today Dr. Robertson mentioned that there have been 520'ish (give or take) applicants this year, and that roughly 250 will be invited for an interview. I imagine that Donkey will correct me when the numbers become final.

However, I did hear a rumor leak that the Pharmacy building had some issues with mold because of the way it was built not to code. I thought the school was pretty new? Can anyone verify this rumor? If it is true, what will happen to the pharmacy students?

I don't think that there were any problems with the blueprints or construction of the pharmacy building. Apparently, a lot of buildings (if not all of the buildings) on the Texas A&M - Kingsville campus have mold in them. Importantly, according to the inspectors who looked between the walls of the building, the mold growing in the walls isn't 'Black Mold' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Mold). There are a lot of different species of mold that can grow inside a building, and they described the mold as 'benign.' They put air scrubbers in the building, though, for the sake of people who may be allergic to the mold. Personally, though, I haven't noticed it and so as far as I can tell, the mold grows in between the walls (as in, you can't see them without prying off a few bricks and panels).

Aw. My fiancee attends TAMUK and I am hoping to get in myself to be with him. Good luck to your boyfriend! I know what you are going through!

Have they told you guys when invites are going out? It's gotta be sometime soon if interviews start on Feb 10th.

Not yet...I still haven't received anything yet..anyone else?

I've received nothing,
Maybe my app just sucks so thats why nothing has come in yet

So I got an email yesterday listing what they have received and what is missing. I have a LOR and pre-pharmacy coursework missing!!! Does this mean they won't even review my application for admission? I'm sad now! The LOR I'm missing is from a pharmacist. I asked him to mail the LORs to TX Tech and TX A&M when he was done. I even provided the envelopes and stamps for him! Yet both schools show they are missing the LOR from him (Although I did get an interview invite from Tech). But I would soooo love to have the opportunity to interview at Kingsville. I'm stressing out! 🙁

I don't think you'll be penalized for not having the LOR sent in on time. I believe that is what they told me. Tech took over a month to update one of my recs so don't worry. Have you tried calling Kingsville???

No, I haven't called them. I actually just found out yesterday around 6:30pm (when I got home from work) that one of my LORs was missing.

It's okay. I found out one of my LOR's was missing too. I just went ahead and gave them a call and they confirmed that they do have everything and that my application is complete. I was panicking because it was past the deadline and I thought I was screwed. I would say just give them a call to see exactly what is going on. 🙂

The faculty here is fairly understanding about how problems can arise. If there's a legitimate reason that those documents are late, they'll probably still take it late, so long as you contact them and get it to them in a reasonable amount of time. It's no excuse if your whole application is late.

They'll typically chase you for missing things so long as your application is mostly complete. Last year, I sent in everything except a certain form (I forget which one). It was about two days from the deadline so I was panicking when they called, but we were able to work out a solution for it. In the end, I still got one of the first interviews last year as well as an immediate letter when the acceptance letters were sent off.

But do hurry. We're already preparing for y'all's arrivals during the interviews. I know for certain I'll be skipping 'ceutics for one of the sessions ;D

As I recall though, I got my invitation... about two weeks before the actual interview, so yeah, keep your eyes peeled this week.

Well, I did contact them and did tell me that my application will still be reviewed but to get that LOR to them as soon as possible. That's my mission for tomorrow.

Just remember that the time's running up. If memory serves, you can get your professor to fax in a letter of recommendation. Call to make sure. Whenever I called, it only took about 1 ring before they answered. If they don't take the fax, try to negotiate faxing a temporary copy until the hard copy is actually sent.

Weren't you the one who was talking about the trouble of getting the professor to write the LOR just before I took a hiatus? lol

Actually, the professor I had trouble contacting sent in her LOR right away. It's the LOR from a pharmacist that I worked with that is missing.

Has anyone heard back about interviews yet? It's getting really close to when they are going to be held and I haven't heard a single word from the admissions office.......I'm getting really nervous

It is weird that we are not hearing anything from them....

Well their deadline was only about a week and a half ago so I'm sure we'll here something soon. Hang tight cause I know I am!

Wow...still not interview letters yet. UT sent me mine on the 21st for a 28-29th interview. So maybe all pharmacy schools like to give 1 week notice. 😀😀😀😀

They like to keep you on your toes. 🙂

I know I will be helping out with answering questions at the interviews on a couple days. So, we are preparing for you guys to come in. 🙂 I hope to see some of you there! I'm sure they will be sending out notices soon. Like syunfung said, I'd keep my eyes peeled this week or early next week. Also, I got a phone call for mine from Dr. Robertson himself. I think I was one of the later interviews. So, keep an eye on your phone calls/ voice mails! (He will leave a voice mail, so don't be distraught if you miss his call haha) Good luck everyone! :luck::xf:

Yeah, they tend to do that. My UT interview and my A&M interview were one week apart last year. My professors were less than thrilled... ><

In any case, are y'all checking the emails that you used to submit your application? I know some of the others got invitations via phone, but mine was through an email from Ms. Knudsen. If you get in the habit of checking Facebook or your personal email more than your work/application emails, you might be missing the notice.

Of course, once you get accepted, they'll only use the email they assign to you, so you ought to get in the habit if you haven't already.

@velvet75: Ah, yeah... the pharmacist was where I was stuck last year as well. I wish you good luck with that!

@LSUCPhT: You're doing that too? Which days? Wait... I could just ask you in class, lol...

I have a couple questions for those that are currently at kingsville. how are the ippe/appe sites at kingsville? is it randomized? how many hours per week? when does it start?

The IPPE/APPE sites are not all in Kingsville - it's all over southern Texas extending upwards to San Antonio and all the way down to the border, as the school was designed to serve southern Texas.

In the first 3 years, "Service Learning Hours" are required for IPPE. They are essentially volunteer hours in which the activity has to involve educating people or providing a healthcare service, eg. heath fairs, health presentations to school kids, counseling, immunization, taking vital signs, etc. For P1 it's 30 hours, P2 it's 25 hours, and I'm really not too sure what it is for P3's 😛. There are many different volunteer opportunities, including those provided by the school, organizations, or an approved one from the student.

P2's get an introductory pharmacy preceptorship. They rank their top preferred locations anywhere in the south including San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Kingsville, Victoria, Brownsville, and the small towns in between. They'll try to match up students to their preferred locations as much as possible. This is done every Friday, in which instead of classes, P2's go to their site.

P4's, for APPE, the selection of locations are also given by preference of the student and includes a larger location since the last year is only pharmacy experience. P4's have no actual classroom lectures and thus aren't ever at the school. The locations for APPE extend to Houston, and I've heard they're working on getting a site near Dallas.

In total you get 1500 experience hours, the required amount for Texas licensing, this includes the 300 hours of early practice experience.

When they send out interview invites, do they give you more than one weekend you are able to attend?

According to their website, these are the following days in which the interview are held:
February 10, 11, 17, 18 & 24, 2011.

So to answer your questions, yes they do give you more than 1 weekend to attend.

Thanks for the information. Obviously, I didn't pay attention to the website. 😛

However, I don't believe they give you an option on which date you want...

Hmmmm I'm gonna hope that invites go out this week. That really sucks that you can't pick what day to go but I guess it makes it fair. Do they let you change the day if there is a conflict?

Not sure. When I had a conflict that the professor wouldn't help me with (i.e. 1 of 2 exams for the entire year happened to be on my interview date for UT but she wouldn't give me a different time to take it), I basically went with "Forget you, the interview is more important!" I went with that same concept for the A&M interview. I think maybe for medical/mortality reasons they'd accommodate you, but otherwise... let's just wait for your interview date first, eh? No use fretting about things if you happen to get a good interview date.

Worst comes to worst, I'll ask around...

Lol thanks! You're right. So far most of my professors have been cool so I will cross my fingers to get an interview and to have it on a good day haha

Check you emails....I just got my interview invite.

The only problem now is...I'm scheduled for Thursday 2/10 at 1pm. I have my Texas Tech interview in Amarillo the next day. Crap.

Yay!!! I got an invite for Thursday 2/10 at 2pm. I have to miss a lot of my classes but oh well. I'm sure my professors will understand haha.

ispeshaled: You may want to call A&M and ask them if they will consider giving you another day to interview or call Texas Tech for an interview change.

No invite for me. 🙁

But congrats to you for getting one! Good luck!:luck:

Velvet: Don't worry you'll get one. I think they send out the invites a week before your interview date. I'm guessing only the people who are interviewing next week have gotten an e-mail. There are many more interview days so no worries!!!

Whoop! Invite is in for 2/11 (Friday)...
What is the written part is all about????

Same, but in Abilene! But my cousin also has an interview Thursday so we're keeping that day...

I didn't get an invite for next week and I'm praying that this is the case!!! It would make sense, to make it fair to those who got their invite today and who have to interview next week. Anyone know for sure though, or who can prove it wrong by stating that they got an invite for the 17, 18, or 24th date?

Thanks!!

I would like to know as I didn't get an email for an interview either and would like to hope that what you're stating is true. 🙁

Maybe someone will see our pleas of mercy!!! lol Good luck to you!! I know exactly what you are feeling. And if it is the case, maybe we are on the same date 😛

Good luck to everyone who got interviews so far!

Don't worry you guys. Yall will get an interview. They are probably still reviewing applications for the next rounds.

Interview next Thursday as well. So what exactly is the writing part like? What kinds of topics do they cover? Do people have examples? Are they pharmacy-related?
