It was great! Were you one of the students in the Q&A session? I was in the morning group 🙂 I thought it was very relaxing 🙂

So glad to hear it! No, I wasn't doing those today. I will be next Thursday again. 🙂

Interviewed yesterday and it was the smoothest interview I had yet. 30 minutes with interviewers that only know your name. I really enjoyed the fact that they want to get to know you during the interview and all you have to do is be yourself. 20 minute writing section was not bad either. Dr. Robertson also mentioned that candidates who interviewed first were one's that lived closer to Kingsville, and that each subsequent interview time was based on candidates with similar locations (Houston area, DFW area, etc.). March 4th is when we should start finding out if we got in or not. Hope this helps and good luck to everyone!

I was all too amused that people thought I was either you or pharmB last week.

I wonder if they'll do that next week, lol. I'm not on your shift Thursday, am I?

Good to know you enjoyed the interview! I hope you got as much out of the experience as possible, and I hope we hear positively once March 4th comes around. Good luck!

Haha. idk. No, I'm not on your shift. I have 3:40 again.

I ditto this too.
Loved the interview, the student body, the staffs, and the COP building. The location is not bad either, I dont know why it was rated so low in feedback (3/10 or so).
My interviewers were so friendly and down to earth people that I wasn't so nervous and it felt like having a conversation with them. Truly a good experience!

I interviewed yesterday, Friday the 18th at 1p.m. Even though Kingsville was in the middle of nowhere, Texas A&M University was like a hidden jewel within the town. It was amazingly beautiful and has that charming characteristic. The faculty and staff were extremely kind and made me feel at ease. It felt like the whole atmosphere was laid back but I was really nervous while in the fish bowl. I think because that interview was going to determine my future as a pharmacist. Some of the questions really caught me off guard at times compared to the typical questions that was listed on the website. Overall, I truly enjoyed the whole experience and it's such a beautiful school with the state of the art technology and facility. The faculty gives me the impression that if they could they would give each and everyone of us a spot that interviewed and they were very encouraging and Dr. Robertson was cheering us on to give our best. 👍

I interviewed here yesterday and I absolutely loved it! Everyone was very nice and the interview was relaxing! Cant wait to hear back 🙂

I did on Thursday morning. I was nervous for sure but the whole process was pretty short and efficient. 8 hours drive for less than 2 hours process 🙂

I was surprised to see the nice building. The whole campus was better than I expected. I like the school and the staffs. They were more than welcoming. I can't wait to hear back, too

LOL that's my screen name. I guess we both feel that way =)

I had my interview the first day and I agree with all of you. Good luck to those that haven't interviewed yet. Yall will love it.

I think my interview was not too bad, but I am so worry now so that I start to think about being rejected all the time 🙁

I think one possible reason is that Texas Tech and UT weigh pharmacy experience more than GPA and PCAT score. On the other side, Texas A&M rank all the applicants based on PCAT and GPA first.

I have a 3.8 GPA and 69 PCAT, some experience in hospital pharmacy and I got an interview from Texas A&M, but not Texas Tech.

I think you must be right because I have 6 years of pharmacy experience and my GPA is decent but my PCAT was horrendous! So I feel that's why I wasn't given a chance to interview with Kingsville. Yet, I got interviews at TX Tech & UT. Although, I am sad that I didn't have an opportunity to interview at A&M, since it was one of my top choices. 🙁

I have very minimal pharmacy experience. That's why I only got one interview from Texas A&M and it makes me really worry now 🙁

I am actually not sure if i agree but last i only applied at tech and got an interview .At that point i had worked for 3 months.
In my opinion what they really care about is who recommends you.

In regards to A&M , I do agree that they prioritize applicants with respect to their GPA and PCAT score.

P.S : I took the PCAT three times and all three times i scored in the low 60's and my GPA is 3.3 overall but just for Tech i retook some classes and made it 3.7

So guys don't be disheartened by GPA, PCAT score or experience. 🙂

Good luck to all of y'll

if you don't mind me asking why is A&M your first choice?

I like the fact that the school is targeting the South TX area. I was born in Corpus Christi, graduated from high school in Harlingen, attended the university at Brownsville and have lived in San Antonio the majority of my life. South Texas has been good to me and so I want to serve this area the most. Plus, it is close to my hometown and is in a small town where there are less distractions. And I hear the faculty and staff are awesome!

I think the staff and faculty did a very good job during the interview days. Everyone tried to make the students feel comfortable. They would come to you and talk individually if you still missing any document. They even offered and brought water to each of us.

Whhhhaaattt??? I thought you got an interview with A&M. Don't worry. They have called people for interviews later on so there is still hope that you will get an interview. Don't give up just yet!!!! Seriously....

I'm not being rude here..but I thought this week is the last interview day. Since march 4th is when the school will send out acceptance for 90 candidates.

Although, I was told by folks from A&M that they may still call/email people for interviews as applicants cancel their invitation to interview, I have already conceded that I won't be getting an invite since I do know the last interview day is this Thursday. It's cool though, now I'm just trying to concentrate on my interview at UT this Friday.

Don't give up yet velvet75! I'm rooting for you! Obviously, you were able to get an interview with Tech and UT so your credentials are good enough for A&M. Like you, I lived in South Texas my whole life, Corpus Christi & Rockport/Aransas. But I do wish you the best of luck at your UT interview! Austin is a cool town.

Our school does a point system. This has been posted a couple times on this thread. I had a decent GPA, a bachelor's degree, pharmacy experience (although I'm not sure how much our school weighs that because I know A LOT of people in my class that have never worked in a pharmacy), HORRIBLE PCAT score, pretty good interview day in my opinion and I got in.

So, I think everything just depends on the whole application. I interviewed at UT, UoH, and A&M (the only schools I applied to). So don't get too discouraged guys. If you don't get in this time around...TRY AGAIN! I didn't get in my first time. What changed was I got my bachelor's degree and improved my PCAT some (It was still bad lol) Sorry if this is starting to drag on lol, but I just wanted to say to keep your heads up. 👍

Hello everyone!!

I interviewed at Texas A&M Kingsville on February 11th and I was wondering if anybody knew the day that we should be informed about getting in. I remember somethig about the first week of March, but I can't remember if that was when notifications go out or if you haven't heard by that week its bad news.

Any insight would be great.

Thanks!! And good luck to all! 😀

on March 4th is when they will call and also send an email if you are accepted. At least that was what I was told at my interview.

Dr. Robertson said they will start sending out email on march 4th and 7th

Good luck to those interviewing tomorrow (almost today now lol)!!! I will be seeing some of you for Q&As! As it has been said before, just be yourselves. You got an interview for a reason, you look good on paper. They just want to get to know you personally now. Best of luck!👍

Shucks, that reminds me I am doing the Q&A today too. The week passed by really weird :/ Must be the SNPhA convention I went to XD

If you've been reading through this thread this entire time, you should do fine. I won't say "don't be nervous" because you'll still feel some self imposed pressure. But if you follow what LSU said above, you'll feel a lot better, since you won't be trying to go with rehearsed lines that you're bound to forget and slip up on. Speak from yourself, since that is what they're looking for. If they wanted someone with a facade, they'd look for a (insert jab at another professional field here).

You'll even meet some of us passing by in between classes on break, and more than likely a few of us will come and speak to you to loosen you up. So walk in there confidently (but not too much... I hate egotists) and rock your interviews!

....and the waiting game begins! Best of luck to all of you guys! I really enjoyed meeting some of you during Q&As! You are all very qualified! I can't wait to hear about acceptances!! 🙂 :xf:

Is Javelina station nice?

I'm typing this while at Javelina, actually, lol. It's alright. I mean, it is the only one around that comes fully furnished. Unless you look at the dorms, that is. There are a lot of advantages:

1) FULLY FURNISHED. There's no need to move all that crap down here!
2) Proximity to the school. If you're a morning person (which I'm not), you can walk to school in the morning. Rather refreshing once in awhile. If you're like me though, you can literally wake up 10 minutes before class and still make it if you drive.
3) Covered utilities (Electricity up to $120 per month... after that, you pay the surplus. The surplus is split between your flatmates).
4) Large yard and swimming pool in the back for barbeques, volleyball, swimming, etc. It also means you're in immediate access to most of the off-campus functions that a lot of the CoP's organizations hold (i.e. APhA's start of the year and Halloween parties, SNPhA's socials, etc.)

My only complaints are the blasted internet and the maintenance crew. The internet is completely unreliable here. Based on what I'm seeing here, I'm led to conclude that the entire building or the entire complex uses the same line. The fastest times are at night, or while everyone's in class. God forbid if you want to accomplish something involving the internet (i.e. looking up OTC medications on the MSL) at a normal hour... Gotta go to the CoP or the library for that! As for the maintenance crew... I hear certain people have fairly okay experiences with them, but each time I ask them to come to my apartment to fix something, they always just come in, "check" the problem and just write it off as normal. I've been living with a shower that runs out of hot water in a matter of 4 minutes because most of the hot water still goes through the faucet portion rather than the shower head. Instead, what he does is he turns up my water boiler... which did nothing to affect the time and hiked my electricity bill sky high.

Oh, and I guess the fact they didn't accomodate my request to be on the top floor would count against them. They say that they'll put you in a building with only pharmacy students, but because not enough of us signed up here, they moved some undergrads above me. Party every Wednesday and um... "jackhammering" every other night. I borderline contemplate finalizing my order for a vuvuzela each time I hear them doing their business up there...

It's a double edged sword, really. If you're used to living in an apartment by yourself already, you may want to consider other options. If you're used to dorm life, Javelina Station would be a good stepping stone towards an apartment.

Despite my grievances, I'll still be living here since I like waking up and being able to get to class in no time, as well as the convenience of all the furniture and washer/dryer/crisper. Just won't be living with the same people as this year. It's like a dorm. The people you live with may or may not suit you.

Just curious, are there any other decent/nice apartments in Kingsville? I didn't get to fully tour the town so i didnt see any apartments... Just some old retro homes...

Thanks for the information. It is really useful!!

Yes but you have to look for them. I thought I responded to something like this a few threads ago, but I'll do it again because fungi are just sooo exciting.

Javelina Station - see above - I don't live there
Kingsville Pointe - toward the East side of town - lower rent (I think) kind of run down.
The Courts of Las Palmas - on General Cavasos they look nice from the outside. I have not been inside
Hunter's Cove - military housing complex that does rent to civilians. There is a wait list, however. A little on the expensive side get a roommate.
Kings Crossing?
Hunters Landing?
Applecreek - by Walmart

Look at www.kingsville.org you can go to members and then apartments and there should be a list. You may have to call around for rent rates and availability. Many people also rent houses, with roommates. I would not buy a house or anything down here just for the resale.

Hope this helps.

I agree with syunfung. Javelina Station isn't the nicest place in the world, but it's a small town. I think people get aggravated with the management, but I think it has gotten better over this past year. You can't beat the fully furnished part of it. No other place in Kingsville is like that. I did NOT want to bring furniture down here. You just can't beat how close it is to school. I leave at 8:55 to get there for 9:00 class. lol I'm on the 3rd floor, as I requested, and in a building away from the courtyard, so it doesn't get loud over here. Like he said they say they put all pharmacy students in 2 buildings, which is mostly true, but it also has some undergrads. Not that there is anything wrong with undergrads, but they don't typically have to study as much as we do, so they can be a bit loud at times. Internet isn't the best. My husband said that he's going to look into getting me DSL through AT&T next year :xf:. I plan on staying here next year.

There are other nice places in Kingsville to take a look at. Like I said, my major draw was furnished because I didn't want to bring down furniture. All depends on what you are looking at doing. Hunter's Cove and Hawks Landing are pretty nice. 👍

i like javelina station. but i'm also not very picky. i love the convenience.

also, word on the street is, emails are going out Friday morning, and there might be a second round of interviews... not a huge amount, but some.

Why do the school need to do the second round of interviews? I don't remember if they mentioned that. I thought they only interviewed Feb 10 - 24th.

I also wonder the same thing. Maybe the pool of the 250 that were interviewed was lacking...something?? I do recall Dr. Robertson say that all those who interviewed are ranked and as those who are invited to attend Texas A&M happen to decline a seat then it's on with the next person on the list. But if they do a second round of interviews, then would that not be fair for those that had interviewed already and are waiting for a seat?

24 hours left until they send out the acceptance email...

perhaps some of those who interviewed did not meet other expectations (things other than pcat/gpa/prereqs) -- the school probably wants to maximize interviews to 250 qualified students. Maybe some who have interviewed were deemed unqualified by poor performance on the writing or interview experience. Or MAYBE, we just enjoy torturing prospective students. haha, either way, it MIGHT not even happen... but it could.

I think you're right on the torturing part haha jk! I'm pretty sure my essay was horrible.

I'm sure you have nothing to worry about!

Don't get discouraged if you don't receive an email tomorrow. Personally, I didn't get an email but a phone call nearly a month or so later. I had already come to terms with not getting in -- but then I did! 👍
