Interviews start tomorrow!!! Everyone get excited!!!! Best of luck and see y'all tomorrow!:luck:👍 Just relax and be yourself. You obviously looked good enough on paper, we just want to get to know you. 🙂

It is nothing like Austin, this place is small, a little rundown, and there isn't much here, BUT that is part of its charm in my opinion. I personally find it refreshing from the busy cities like Houston and Dallas.

1) you can get to anywhere in town in about 15mins or less. (helps a lot when you need your sleep and study time. I don't know how I would have survived if I had to commute 2 hours everyday back and forth)
2) NO TRAFFIC (other than the train )
3) PARKING is cheap and you can pretty much find parking anywhere.
4) no distractions...( this is a pro and a con, the closest shopping mall is in Corpus Christi (45mins away) but that can also be a plus since you are here to study, but if you ever need to go to Corpus you can always hitch a ride with someone there are always people going there over the weekend)
5) I feel like since it is such a small town and there isn't much to do. You start to hang out more with your classmates and build a closer bond with them than you would if it was a bigger city and people were more spread out. I honestly feel that I probably would not have been as close to my friends if we were going to a school in a large city or a commuter school. As far as stuff to do, there is always stuff to do you just need to know where to look and be active at school. Things won't just come to your doorstep in Kingsville.
6) Kingsville is a nice cozy place to me and the people here really make it a great place for me. I enjoy my fellow classmates and the professors as well as the people in Kingsville. The place is really what you make of it.
7) The weather is meh, so far I like it not a lot of rain, not too hot not too cold, and then there are random days where the weather gets biopolar...Windy, cold in the morning then hot in the afternoon, silent hill foggy. The weather can be all over the place sometimes.
8) Crime rate....I haven't heard anything yet, just be smart about your stuff, lock your doors, don't leave anything of value out in the open, that's about it.

Things I dislike:

1) lack of restaurants ( I like to eat there is a limited selection )
2) lack of apartment choices ( there aren't many GOOD choices in kingsville)
3) the water lol
Wow, I wasn't expecting someone to give so much information, so thank you soo much!! That was really helpful. An thanks for answering my other question as well!

good riddance Texas A&M HSCILRCOP! Just FYI some people's fall grades may not have been counted in your GPA if they didn't come in before the December 3 deadline. I don't know how the college could have expected grades by that deadline but they were. 🙄

That was extremely professional. 👍

Who's coming to interview next week?? Good luck and see you then!! :luck:👍

Just as professional as yours.

Do you know how hard it was for me to break the news to my parents that I'll be moving extremely far away from them for the next four yrs just b/c of a miss communication of requirements? They are angry just as much as I am and the college should have better sense than to miss represent themselves. I have wasted a lot of time, money, and effort on this so it's personal & not professional.

I was just wondering so I understand the grades wont count towards your GPA but they would look at your fall classes and give you the credit that you took them when they are making decision to whether accept you or reject you, is that correct? I am just confused a little. I have heard that even though couple of classes are in progress, some schools will interview you but wont accept you. I know TSU is one of those schools that would interview you but would prefer a student who has completed all the classes over someone who is taking couple of classes the semester before they enter pharm. school. Does kingsville do that as well?

Also I understand your frustration but look at the bright side. You got accepted to atleast one school. There are so many people out there that havent even gotten an interview or an acceptance letter. Atleast you know that you will be a pharmacist, at the end of the day. I am interviewing to 2 out of 3 schools (next week) I have applied but I dont know if I am going to be a pharmacist since I havent received an acceptance letter or I dont know if I will receive one. It is hard to go to sleep at night not knowing if you will make it in the profession you always wished for. Think about the amount of stress people in this situation go through when their parents and everyone else are constantly nagging them. Now this people have it hard. I am not speaking for myself since I am applying for the first time and i applied in november I was expecting an interview in Feb anyways but I have friends that are in this situation (some wants to be pharmacist and others wants to go to med or dental school) and they are so depressed and disappointed that they are seeking counselling. Some of the responses they got from med and dental school goes like this: "You didnt take heavy science courses in your last semster of you undergraduate year" - hmm something you cant fix after you already got your B.S degree. Here's another one, this person had 3.85 from UT and 32 in mcat and didnt get matched to ANY school. He turned suicidal and is seeing a psychiatrist. When you are in these positions you have no explanation for your parents. There is nothing you can do to make them understand. Your parents should be glad that you are going to be a pharmacist and not wait around another year or two. I am sure not every parent understands but I just wish they would look at the bright side. I wish you best of luck with everything. Things will get better. Enjoy your time off before you go to pharmacy school 🙂

Maybe I'm missing something... but why does your fall grades not counting for your GPA a problem? You're obviously not going to have your fall grades by december 3rd so of course it's not going to count towards your GPA?

Besides, A&M asked for a pharmCAS update on completed and planned courses recently.. the deadline is in February. So your grades for fall would've been updated during this time before they send out acceptance letters.

So... I really don't see why this is a problem? Again, maybe I'm missing something. Please be kind.

I have the exact same questions. I am confused as well. I think I am going to call someone at the admissions office tomorrow. I think you should do the same so that we can cross reference just to make sure they are consistent with their answers just incase.

This is the Director of Admissions's contact info. If you have any questions regarding the specifics of the admissions process you should contact her. 🙂

Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK! 🙂

Think of how much harder it would have been to tell your parents you didn't get into any school. Also, if you did well the rest of the time, you shouldn't be worried about your grades from the fall. I'm sorry that things did not go exactly the way you planned it, but that's life. You should just adapt to what is given to you, and be professional and polite at all times, because pharmacy is a very small world, no matter what school you go to.

I understand you are frustrated, however, that's not a reason to act unprofessionally. I'm not sure I understand exactly what the problem was, but I agree with everything pharmafan said. Pharmacy is a very small world, believe it or not.

Also, I do know what it's like to be away from those you love and care about. I currently live about 10 hours away from my parents and family and 3.5 hours away from my husband to attend school here in Kingsville. I am doing what I have to do to better myself and my husband and family understand that. Has it been easy? Absolutely not. Have I enjoyed getting to meet and interact with the students, faculty, and staff here at the Texas A&M COP? Absolutely. I wouldn't have changed my decision to come here if I had to do it over again. I went to interviews at other colleges of pharmacy and did not feel as welcome as I did at the interview here. I agree with pharm B 100%. Interview day sold me on this school. The people at this college are some of the nicest I've met and have bent over backwards to make me feel welcome in a place that I knew no one.

Best of luck everyone!!

Does anyone know how many people apply to this school every year, out of which how many people interview here and how many do they accept?

I just want to know the ratio between the number of people who interview and the ones that get accepted.

I think it was about
~500 people apply
~250 get interviews
~90 get accepted,

out of the ~90, people will drop/ decline their acceptances, and the next people on the list of the best people will get picked. No one is ever "rejected" you simply get put in a waiting list.

Actually, there were approximately 600 applicants and we are interviewing close to 300. From there they accept 87. (And like was said, some will decline and they will go down the wait list and no one will receive a rejection letter.)

Thank you for the information!! 🙂. Is there any set date when they send out first round of acceptance and how many days are given to those students to make their decision? I am just curious to see how long I have to wait to see if I made it in the first round or not. I know waiting period is on of the most nerve wrecking time.

Haha, no problem. I know waiting is the worst part. There is no set date that I know of. I know they wait until all interviews are completed though. The last day of interviews is February 22nd, so sometime early March would be my guess.

Just finished my interview today, it was a lot more relaxing than expected. As soon as I entered the building, I was greeted by 3 different faculty members! A&M was not originally one of my top choices but after meeting the staff and everyone on campus, I have a change of heart.

I felt the same way. I interviewed yesterday!

Ditto. I interviewed on the 14th. The visit definitely raised my interest in the school. Still iffy about the city, but the school is looking good.

Check out the interview tips on the school's website. It was pretty straightforward and not as intense as I had expected. I had one question that came as a surprise but it was kind of a "fun" question so I'll leave it as a surprise.

As a student here, I am SO glad to hear that you all had a great experience at the interviews! I definitely agree with you that interview day was what convinced me that this was a great place to be. As far as Kingsville goes, it is what you make of it. My fellow classmates have made my 3 years here in Kingsville the best. I have met people here that I will be friends/colleagues with forever and I know that I am getting a top notch education. We are now in the top 50 pharmacy schools in the country and tied with UoH after graduating only 3 classes of students. One great thing about being in this area is that the people here appreciate us so much. I have had patients tell me that we are the best thing that has happened to this city in a long time. Healthcare isn't as readily available as it is in the bigger cities and so I feel like I can make a bigger difference here. Also, Corpus is not far away at all and you can always escape to go there when needed. I also make the trip back to Houston pretty often. 🙂 I hope this helps some of you! Good luck to those that still have their interviews coming up. I will see you there 🙂

They asked some generic questions to get to know you and then based on your answers they asked more personalized questions. Look at the forum on SDN questionnaire and the school website. Good luck! 🙂

Have a couple of stories you can tell when you're asked questions. Almost every question I was asked I was able to come up with some personal story or reason and interviewers like to hear this kind of stuff because they get a better view of what you're like.

I'm pretty sad this year that I havent been able to meet any of the possible applicant because, as a P2, we're always in class on Thursdays and on Friday's we have our rotation sites away from the school 🙁 But good luck everyone! this town might not look like much, but the friends you'll make at this school will make this place wonderful.

Anyone interviewing this Thursday? Looking forward to it very much 🙂

i will be their! Excited to finally visit the campus! Heard a lot of good things about it.

We're excited to have you! 🙂 See you all this week!! Best of luck SDN-ers!! 👍:luck:

Hey, to all those interviewing this week, don't forget to make about a 30 second block to just introduce yourself and talk about what you have been in and why you want to do pharmacy and things like that when they ask you to tell them about yourself, don't memorize it, but have an idea about what you are going to say. Just as a reminder! Good luck to you all!!!:luck:

Does anyone know when they will be sending the acceptances?

Does anyone know when they will be sending the acceptances?

If I remember the email correctly, it mentioned that acceptances will be sent out in early March or so. I do not know if there is an exact date involved.

There is no set date. They will not send any out until all are interviewed. Last day of interviews is this Friday. We have spring break the first week of March....not sure if that will affect acceptances, but just so you know. I am willing to bet early-mid March we will see our first wave of acceptances.👍

I interviewed in the afternoon on Friday and our group was told by both Maria DeLeon and Cecilia Gamboa that they will send out acceptances to the top 100 by next friday. FYI

Someone earlier in the thread gave the point breakdown, but it is different than what i was told.
I interviewed on Thursday 2/21 and before the interviews started was given the point breakdown by one of the ladies (I can't remember her name).

75 total points possible
15 gpa
15 pcat
10 LORs (3.33 for each)
25 interview
10 essay (written day of interview)

Also the stats from the previous year's class were given.
Average gpa 3.3ish (I can't really remember exactly but it was low 3s)
Average pcat 68 (I do remember this stat exactly)

I am a really worried that I did not get in. My interview didn't go that well and I really want to go to this school. Would anybody that interviewed mind sharing there stats?

Mine are:
Gpa 3.8
Pcat 64 (but very high chem and bio scores)
Minimal pharmacy experience
B.S. in Biology

Thanks! And good luck to all!!!!

Nightmare starts now!!! :scared:

-Gpa: 3.8
-PCAT: 92
-B.S. in biology (graduated in 3 yrs)
-Moderate pharmacy experience in retail&hospital

Lol you have nothing to worry about then with stats like that. Good luck moving forward! Anybody else care sharing their stats?

You guys find out so early!

We were told to expect an email around April Fools Day.

To those who make it in, you'll be a landmark class: The Class of 2017 will be the first class to enter the College after the TAMHSC\TAMU merger.

The Class of 2014 will be the first to graduate as Aggies. 😍

Lol you have nothing to worry about then with stats like that. Good luck moving forward! Anybody else care sharing their stats?
My stats:
BS in psychology
85 PCAT with a 25 in math ;(
3.6 GPA
Long work hx in mental health hospital/ group home
Been volunteering/shadowing in different pharmacies for last two years

I feel really bad about my pcat score now lol

You guys do find out way earlier than we did "back in our day." haha.

I see people sharing stats. I know you guys think this matters a whole ton, but it really doesn't matter THAT much once you get in for an interview. If you look at the point breakdown, you see that the interview is worth 25 points. Once you get an interview, it's a pretty fair playing field. Don't worry so much about stats. Just TRY to sit back and relax and wait for that email/phone call! 🙂

Don't. If you hadn't noticed yet, the biggest factor in their decision is the interview. If you knocked that out of the park, you should be fine.
I don't think my interview went that well though lol...

It's an email for the first wave. After that it's usually phone calls.

So I have a few questions about rotations and residency matching at this college. Can a current student please address them?

1) Where are the possible rotation sites located? I know that they briefly went over this at the interview, and I remember Round Rock being one of them, but I don't recall them all.

2) How do you get matched with the rotations? For instance, do students get to pick or do you get placed somewhere? And can you stay there or the whole year or are you moved around quite a lot between rotations?

3) What is the residency matching rate like? I've heard that the IRL College of Pharmacy is geared more towards retail and less towards clinical. although I'm not sure which career path I want to take yet, I'd like to think that my chances of pursuing a clinical pharmacy career will not be jeopardized if I attend this school..

OH and I had another question, not related to rotations/residencies - Where do students usually eat? Are there any cafes/cafeterias/restaurants on campus?

Thanks a bunch!
