Texas AuD 2015 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied early admission to Texas Tech.

Are those the only 2 schools you are applying to?

I don't know much abut Tech's program but since they don't require LORs or personal statements, it makes me wonder. Do you know much about it?

I found that strange also, I do not know much. I figured it was a newer program that wanted to raise admissions or something like that.

I applied early to Texas Tech. But I really have no idea about their program. Their website isn't very easy to navigate.

Hello,

I am a 3rd year AuD student at Texas Tech.

I will let you know that I found the lack of a SOI or LOR to be somewhat jarring for the program as well, however when I hear about what some programs in other locations in the country do with regards to how severe they are in terms of academic dismissal, etc., I am pleased that the vast majority of your 'score' with regards to Tech comes from your phone interview.

In truth, SOIs are fairly purposeless as the majority of programs do not have a very strong foundation for Audiology, undergrad-wise, so your statement would likely lack emphasis.

The program is very clinically-oriented and therefore it may be why LORs are not considered as part of the application packet. There has never been a very significant reason as to why this was absent from the application. GREs and the phone interview, however, are the most considered aspects of the application.

If you have any questions, I have found SDN useful for some particularly fringe information. You may FPM me here and I can provide an e-mail to guarantee better communication, though I will be out and about by the time you all potentially get in.

Another reason they might not do LORs (as someone applying) is because most recommendation letters look identical. You will rarely if ever see a negative letter about someone. I know that my school (where I go to undergrad) only receives letter because they are a CSDCAS program, and the directors of the speech and AuD programs say they have never actually looked at one. They simply hold little value.

Thank you for your insight! I was wondering what other ways Texas Tech gathered information about their candidates since transcripts and GRE scores can only tell so much.

If the few students I've mentored from Texas Tech are any indication of the level of their program, then it would be a very good program. The students I have mentored from there have been above average on their skill sets in the externship between their 2nd and 3rd years.

I received an interview invitation from Texas Tech AuD Program
How long is the interview? How can I prepare for the interview? Easy questions? I have a phone interview on December 8th?

I'm scheduled for an interview with them as well!

Me three!! I've talked to a couple people about it, and they say there are tons of tips on the Internet! Also talking to first years is always a good resource!

It's so exciting! I'm only a little nervous because I haven't been on that side of an interview since about 3 years ago. I'm usually the one conducting the interviews at my current job! I've heard there are tons of tips online. Valerie, the career center at my school lets you schedule mock interviews to practice. You might see if that is an option.

thank you!!! I wish I knew what types of questions they would ask :/

How was everyone's interview with Texas Tech??

Nerve racking. I'm pretty sure I talked way way to fast. But now I will know what to avoid if I get another interview. Anyone know when we hear back?

I don't think I did very well. lol. I was so nervous. I don't know when we hear back but I'm thinking maybe a month or so?

Okay I'm not the only one, I thought I did pretty bad.
lol i had the interview on Monday as well. They only asked the common general questions, but still i messed it up. i really don't know what parameters they use to select the students. This is a 4 years doctorate program and they are conducting phone interview. Really????????

I think (not sure at alllll) they have real interviews after this. Or maybe it's because they are interviewing so early? I dunno.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that they only do phone interviews. I wish I could remember where I saw that.

I know what's going to be my result, this is so frustrating. I am not that good at phone interviews, but i am good at personal interviews. I really don't know what other graduate program i should apply for since my degree is in Audiology and speech pathology.

Has anyone heard from Texas Tech? I've been out of town since the middle of December so I haven't been able to check my mail. Just curious if anyone has received a letter.

I got a letter, it said I got deferred (though they didn't say defer) to spring, but they also sent me an admission contingency plan, which makes it seem like I got accepted... I am waiting for an email back. I'm so confused!

Well, I just got back in town and checked my mailbox and I haven't received a letter yet. The waiting continues...

I finally got my letter and I was also deferred until regular admission.

Hey guys! Hope everyone is doing well and that you start hearing back from programs soon.

One quick question - did you find a website or any other tools that helped/are helping you prepare for the interviews? I applied to several programs and don't quite know what to expect in regards to interview questions. Thanks!

I have an interview with UT-Dallas scheduled. I'm nervous about this interview since I didn't do well in the interview with Texas Tech.

I have searched for tips on the internet but mainly I'm preparing for this interview by scheduling a mock interview with my school's career center and practicing with my work supervisor. Hopefully it helps!

Thanks so much! I hadn't thought about going through my school's career center, but that's a great idea. Congrats on getting an interview. Just out of curiosity, when did you get your application in and when is your interview for UTD? I'm kind of wondering how long it takes for schools to process applications and set up interviews.

I submitted my application at the end of September and my last letter of recommendation was received on January 13th. I got an email on the 16th that I was invited for an interview.

I heard back from Tech and I was accepted for early admissions (HELL YES)....However I had to decline (UGH) do to my future husbands job placement! I was bummed, now waiting for Lamar to hear back from. The wait is SOOO nerve wracking!

As someone who was not accepted early, but deferred... Sorry- but THANKS, you opened up a spot! Good luck with Lamar!!!! 🙂

Does anyone who got an interview with UT Dallas know when their interview date is?

I applied for early admission in TTU and i had the interview in December. I got the letter saying that i will have to wait until the regular admission over. I do't think i am going to hear back anything else from TTU

I also got that letter- but I thought it said they were just holding us until regular admission, kind of like deferring us so they could compare to the rest of the applicants? I don't think anyone has heard back. I think I am going to call them on Monday.

Yes tha's the letter i am talking about. Did you call them ?

I actually emailed them, but I emailed the admissions office and got some weird response that said MAY 1st?! So I emailed the director of the AuD program directly to ask. Hopefully soon.

Okay, sorry for the double post, but my letter from December says "the committee is holding a decision on your application until we have more info about our entire applicant pool"
The website also says they roll their decisions, so hopefully not receiving one today doesn't mean we are denied/wait listed.
