I think less people will participate in the match this year because a lot of people will get accepted to their top choice.

You still have to participate even if you get a pre-match offer.

"Applicants not holding an offer will submit a preference list ranking all schools where they interviewed

Applicants holding the one offer will also submit a preference list ranking that school and any other school(s) where they interviewed and did not receive a pre-match offer, if desired."

It's "if desired," meaning that if they already got into their top choice, they wouldn't want/need to enter the match.

That's essentially the same thing, if you get accepted to your top choice on rolling and rank it #1, then under no circumstances will the match change anything. Therefore you would not effect the outcome of the match for others, thus your participation in the match is entirely irrelavent.

You're right Chaey - I didn't see the top choice filter in your statement.

Anyone going to Galveston this Friday?

See - I think that *does* qualify as stalking. 😛 But that is just me.

Ana- what was the ratio of black suits to non-black suits? 🙂
 There were mostly black suits - there was one chocolate brown suit that was very pretty but I wondered how professional she looked.

Tech on Wednesday and A&M on Thurdsay!

Anyone else daring this ruthless combination?

Really? There went my confidence level.

It took a few days for my status to change but I guess that was a fluke only to get my hopes up.

I'm not certain I understand why that makes you feel bad?? Because it was a numbers selection? A numbers selection isn't a bad thing.

Ughh!!! I feel like the wallflower at the dance!! I'm not going anywhere until Sept 1.

But I guess that is better than the alternative, going into labor on the plane! Or worse, in the midst of an interview.

Good luck this week guys!! I may be going offline for a while - baby has dropped.

:luck: :luck: :luck:

Good luck to those interviewing next week! Runningmom, good luck with the delivery...keep all of us posted! Anyone heading to UTSA on the 14th?

I'll be there! Will probably also do the social if I don't get bumped off my flight (I'm flying standby the evening before).

Has anyone already interviewed (or will interview) for TCOM rural track? I was just wondering how it is. Also how much time is spent away from TCOM, their website makes it sound like its just a few weeks.... almost doesn't seem worth holding separate interview sessions.

Thanks.

AggieJohn -- I am supposed to be doing the Tech on Wed and A&M Thurs but I'm moving the Aggie interview... Are you driving back from Lubbock Wed night or flying?

Driving... well, my fiance will be driving and I'll be trying to sleep 😛

Hopefully it will all work out.

I am currently in the process of completing my TMDSAS application and I had a question about one of the optional essays . . .

"Briefly discuss any unique circumstances or life experiences that are relevant to your application which have not previously been presented. "

For some reason this makes me thing they are looking for things like, I had cancer when I was 12, or I grew up in foster homes. Is this a question looking for ways in which you have been disadvantaged or is it a normal question to givs us the opportunity to discuss our strengths??

This ought to be in the TMDSAS 2007 post which seems to have fallen to the lower echelons of the pile of late, but I'll give my opinion anyway.

With the optional questions I tend to err on the side of not answering them. Unless something major pops into my head when I read the question, I leave them blank. My theory being that by making it optional the adcoms are only interested in truly unique circumstances and not whatever I can stretch to use. With regard to that specific question, I think you could talk about your strengths if they are the result of some unique circumstance or life experience, but if they are just traits this is not an appropriate place to indicate to the adcom that you rock at math for example.

thanks for your opinion. i will move this to the correct thread.

I'm probably being a bit paranoid, but I'll ask anyway. Should I be worried that it has been six working days and I only have interviews at UTSW and TCOM? How long did those of you who have interviews at the other schools have to wait? (Specifcally those of you who were sent to schools in July, I'm sure the June verifications had to wait a while.)

I've been verified since June and have only gotten 2 interviews. I'm not too worried, maybe it will take awhile

That's reassuring, I guess I'm just going crazy. I need a off work hobby other than trying to get into med school.

Hey A: One little tidbit I got from the UTMB night before social. In my informal survey of everyone in my vicinity (10-20 people,) NO ONE had invites from UT-SA. Seems like they are just being slow in getting them out. (Yes, yes, I know that a bunch of people on here have interviews at UT-SA.)

Thanks, Jota. That does make me feel a bit better. I've kinda resigned myself to the fact that I may not get anymore Texas interviews (except Baylor) and I'm okay with that; I liked UT-H THAT much. I've got a Vandy invite and basically got an IU invite (only send 2ndaries to those they plan to interview). Guess just not that much in-state love for me 😀

Hey,

Just found this thread and had a quick question.
I have an interview at A & M on 8/10 and San Antonio on 8/28.
So I'm waiting around hoping to hear from UT-H and UTMB. Do these schools generally have really varying criteria on who they invite for interviews? Or do I have a decent chance of interviewing at those schools since I got invites from the others? I'm starting to give myself an ulcer.

I feel the same way. I have an interview from UTSA on 8/14 and Tech on 8/25 but no love from the other schools. It is still early and no one can really guess what the other schools are looking for. If your stats were good enough for those two school then I would say you have a good chance for an interview at the others. Its still early so don't lose hope!

I just now received my invite to UT-SA on 8/28. I guess I wasn't on their tip-top list of priorities. Then again, who knows what UT-SA's priorities are. For all I know they seem to frown upon high numbers.

i have the opposite problem i am waiting for UTSA and Tech but have gotten them at UTH UTMB TAMU and UTSW, i have been processed 6/28 but i was wondering if the UTSA or Tech had any thing that made them stand out geography or stats, i don't really want to ask for stats but if you have gotten an interview at those schools would u mind letting everyone know if there is something special about yourself, maybe non traditional or went to those schools undergrad Thanks by the way don't give yourself ulcers i know alot of people still waiting And has anyone heard from Baylor by chance?

Everyone's special in their own way. I have a polyp on my tongue.

Nothing from Baylor.

At my UT Houston Interview I asked my interviewer (who was on the admissions committee) their criteria for sending interviews. I asked, "Are the people at this interview session the ones with really good grades or the ones who applied the earliest?" He replied that they are usually one and the same, and effectively sidestepped the question.

I think that everyone that hasn't heard from all the schools shouldn't start worrying yet. Its not even the middle of August yet 🙂

Who was your interviewer?

To the people without lots of interviews, it is really early in the process! If you get one interview, the rest seem to just trickle in. If your numbers are good enough to get you an invite at one school, you'll probably get interviews at the rest (except maybe UTSW). My numbers aren't stellar but I also applied early... my stuff was sent to the schools 6/14. So everyone giving themselves ulcers, don't worry! your day will come.
My interviews/invites so far --
TCOM 7/27
UTMB 8/4
Tech 8/9
A&M 8/10 (trying to contact to reschedule)
UTSA 8/28
UTH - where are you?
UTSW - didn't send secondary

The point that I was trying to make with my last few posts is that SDN represents such a small sample size of the whole TX medical applicant population that to stress about things because of what is going on on SDN is somewhat silly. Like I said, of the fellow UTMB interviewees that I spoke to, hardly any had interviews from anywhere besides UTMB, A&M, and TCOM. A few (could count on 1 hand) had TTU and/or UT-H. I can't remember anybody mentioning an interview from UTSW and no one I spoke to had heard from UT-SA. It is really early in the process, and some ADCOM members are slower than others in reading through applications, etc. That will lead to a sort of built-in randomness to the process.

To answer your questions, I have not heard from Baylor, nor has anyone else that I have spoken to. My online application status says that my application is complete and HAS been reviewed by the committee. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

I have an interview from TTU coming up, and my stats aren't stellar. Overall GPA = 3.5x, TMDSAS Science GPA = 3.4x, 35 < My MCAT Score < 40. I am a non-traditional student.

It seems UT-SA only sends out interview invitations via regular paper mail? Because I just got an invite via regular mail but not via email.

Hey Zuerst,

I got my UTSA interview via email. I interview on the 14th.

The smail mail letter came later that week.

I'm with you, I only got snail mail. Are you interviewing on 8/28? Maybe the later interview dates only get snail mail?

Yes sir, I'll see you then!

My UTSA was snail mail as well with no email notification...

I made a bad mistake.

I am living with my parents this summer, so I had my mail forwarded from my college address. Apparently, most letters won't be forwarded, but rather bounce back to the sender due to "return service requested." Long story short, just about all of my snail mail from med schools is not reaching me.

Sigh.

IU = Iowa Univ?

Well...for Tech, I am from that area of Texas and I plan on returning to raise a family. Tech is my first choice for that reason and I went on a school visit and spoke with someone there over the Christmas holidays. For UTSA...maybe because I want to do rural medicine and I have a spanish certification and study abroad and so on. I didn't go to either school for undergrad and my stats are ok (not outstanding or anything). So, maybe this gives a little bit of insight for you.

UTSA sent snail last year, but if you didn't respond, they'd email you to make sure you know you've been selected for an interview.

Just got an email from UTMB, interview invite for Sept. 8

When were you processed by TMDSAS? thanks!

I have a quick question -
Can some of the girls please describe the shoes they're wearing to interviews/have seen at interviews? I've recently been informed that pointed pumps aren't professional, and am at a loss as to how to go otherwise.... Further, UTMB said bring a pair of comfortable shoes for the tour - what would those look like and what would you do with them in the mean time?
Also, my suit is a skirt - do I need to wear hose? Let me know what you guys think!
Thanks - Reemiss

I wore ballet slippers - but I wore a pants suit. I don't know about pizza toes being unprofessional but I did notice one girl with bleeding feet after the UT-H tour 🙁 What size bag are you bringing? You could toss some flip-flops in there for the tour.
