Is speaking Spanish an unwritten requirement for a competitive UTHSCSA applicant? I came across this the other day and would like your opinions. Thanks!

I know their website says they take bilingual ability into consideration but I doubt it is a requirement.

I highly doubt that, but they take hispanic education very seriously. They've been named as one of the top professional schools for latinos a few times over the past decade or so (sorry can't find the info at the moment) so knowing spanish may have a greater impact at UTHSCSA than other schools, though being bilingual always looks good--unless the 2nd language is something like Latin, then it just looks lame.

I just want say to those you have yet to recieve an invite to UTH, and was processed early, dont worry. Last year I was processed in early june, and did not recieve an invite to UTH until late August or early september, I really dont remember the exact date. But anyways don't lose hope.

(Yes, I know - that is pathetic to admit - but I don't watch movies unless they include annoying talking fish! We're on Finding Nemo for the third time this week.... ARGHH!)

Well, you maybe you should just put "11 useful posts" - I'm not sure how many times I had to see VDs pic before I figured out he was the guy in Saving Private Ryan.

The good thing about Finding Nemo is there are real life lessons in it - like "Oh look - something shiny!! It just went over that trench - follow it!" I've used that concept on more than one annoying person.

congrats to you folks getting interviews. don't worry if you submitted early and haven't gotten one yet. maybe they're just going thru apps in batches or different people on the adcoms are screening them at different rates. Last year it seemed pretty random when people were getting invites, especially from UTSA. good luck with your school visits.

Hmm... Well, I was really happy to check my email today and find an invitation for an interview at UT Houston... unfortunately its August 4th, the same day as my UTMB interview.

If I call UT Houston, will I be able to reschedule? I'm not really sure what to do in this situation.

Call and email them for sure. If it doesn't work out, i think UTMB is more flexible when it comes to scheduling, as least from what i read on their website. do it early as possible.

I think UT-H usually has more dates. Call them and see if you reschedule, otherwise I know UTMB will reschedule (didn't they move runningmom's interview?)

I got emails from them last week that they had my Cert. Page/Fee and LORs (separate emails for each,) but other than that, I haven't heard anything from them....

Hey guys!! Just wanted to say good luck with applications/interviews. I applied to the TX schools 2 years ago, so I know what y'all are going through right now. If anyone has specific questions about Baylor (I'm a student there) or even applying OOS, let me know.

Dang man, they put the hammer down on you. I wonder why they put you so late. That does not make sense to me, almost 4 months away. That will put you at a disadvantage because of the rolling admissions. I would see if you can get a better deal at UTH or something. That to me seems kind of crazy.

They gave me 3 interview dates to choose from. Two in Lubbock, one in El Paso. The earliest date conflicts with UTMB (Aug.4), so I will go either the 9th or the 11th
