Hehe I guess that means I'm half strong (4.0 GPA but 33 MCAT)

Nice stats, i'd say your MCAT is better that strong.

Strong stats is relative to what schools you're applying to, especially your MCAT.

edit: I was replying to somemaybedoc, but your stats are good too!!

Finally got my first interview. I was processed July 20-something. My interview is at A&M Nov. 2nd. See you guys there. BTW how do I find a medical student to stay with?

Thanks,
Michael

Congrats on your interview!

phammd, congrats on your first interview! i hope i get one soon too. i called a&m and apparently my app was being held up because someone at their office hadn't downloaded my LORs yet so my file wasn't complete.

Anyone from UT-Austin going to A&M on October 26 and wants to carpool??

Good Luck.....I'm rooting for you and Chaeymaey.

When should someone start calling the Texas schools to verify the application has been received correctly. My app went through around mid-August and I have only gotten one interview.

Comments?

You can check tech's website for the status of all your things...maybe your LORs were slow. Mine were and after they came in I got 3 more interviews (utmb and utsa didn't need them before offering an interview). IMHO, I would say if tech has been complete for 4-6 weeks, then call the other schools, if you haven't been complete at tech for that long then wait a little longer...good luck.

Question: Which Texas schools allow you to add another letter to your LORs/committee letters already submitted?

I just got an interview invite from baylor for November 17. Words can't describe how much I want this school. Crossing my fingers for the best*

You and everyone else in Texas. Good luck!

everything has to be sent through TMDSAS. you can mail them the letters to the same address you sent your original letters to and they'll forward them to the schools. very slowly of course, but it's the only way.

i called yesterday and most of them were in good order. A&M had a hugely delayed system where my LORs were just sitting around and my app was still incomplete since the LORs were exactly placed in my file...i started hyperventilating. haha. A&M is my best hope for this year.

oh and kemper thanks for the good luck wishes! we'll all need it, esp me and maybe chaey (gtown SMP is pretty baller).

Rant deleted (about waiting till Nov 15 or longer to Feb 15, later than last year match).

I got an interview at UTMB! I emailed them and asked if my app. was complete. They responded saying yes, and that I should be getting an email next week with a formal interview invite. Now, just gotta wait for the other schools...

I guess Texas A&M has started to give out offers (saw one acceptance to MD/PHD on 10/16). Any OOS received offers yet? THx

Congrats to all who are getting the interview invites!!! I wish I would get some love too 🙁
On a sidenote, the offers of rolling admissions will be via email or snail mail?

Does UTMB send inteview invites via snail mail ?

Also, all of you'll getting interview invites at UTMB/A&M etc., when was your file complete? thanks

Email first then snail mail packet w/ details.

My TMDSAS was processed 6/28, but I was an August MCATer.

Baylor went great today! Any place that serves egg salad samwhiches deserves serious consideration. I was blessed with two doctors with big hearts 🙂

couple of things to calm the nerves around here:

-calls will continue into next week
-everyone will receive a letter (congrats, waitlist, we're sorry)
-appx 50% of interviewees (300) get granted an acceptance....although some of those accaptances come way late in the spring.

Do we have any data on the percentage of interviewees that have been accepted in the past at the other TX schools? Post it if you do. 🙂

I especially like the part that everyone will receive a letter. I feel that my worst interview of all was at Baylor, so it will be nice to have some closure when the time comes 😳

Also, is it 50% of interviewees in state? I ask because even though Baylor is a private school, they accept such a high rate of in state-ers...

This is not known because of the different styles they had last year for selection via match only

I guess I was hoping the hear how deep into their match lists they had to go. Too bad.

50% overall, so in-state interviewees have a bit of an advantage, since my anecdotal evidence for my (our) interview group was that it was about 50/50 in-state/OOS.

I don't have the statistics in front of me, but, as a rule of thumb, most of the TX public schools accept about 1/3 of their interviewees. No school has really defined what acceptance means. If it means the lowest spot on the match list to which they offered an acceptance, there is probably statistically significant overlap among the schools, so it is hard to really tell how many different people were offered acceptances.

Well, they said they interview 600 total (which I would assume is in state + non-Texans) and sent out about 300 acceptances.

I'm sorry you didn't feel like your interview went well🙁
I was lucky to get to very sweet doctors to talk to, and since this was my last interview, I've learned that putting more emotion and heart into my responses really works. I got positive responses and feedback yesterday, so I felt good when I left.

Be sure to keep me posted on how everything works out🙂

Filo at A&M told us that they usually are willing to accept ~300-350 students. I think they are a little more picky about who they interview as well so there's fewer interviewers than other TX schools. Bottomline, a&m generally accepts 40-50% of their interviews.

I should tell UTSA that since A&M interviewed me they should too. 😛

Goodluck all, we just finished our first block of class here at UTMB (I'm pretty sure some of ya'll interviewed this past friday and saw all the haggard 1st years...yeah, i was somewhere in that group). I don't know everything about all the changes that they did with TMDSAS this year with the semi-rolling admissions or what not, but if you haven't gotten an interview yet, don't be discouraged...there is still time left (I remember getting the interview invite at A&M like a week before my interview there...and i think UTMB was 2-3 weeks).

Goodluck all, especially my brothers/sisters-in-arms from last year (esp. Chaey and yourmom and others who i can't remember right now...sorrry). You'll get in for sure this year, and once you do we are gonna party it up.

Great thinking...... you should not mention name of which school interviewed you, just that "school better than yours" will do the trick...j/k

Just out of curiosity has anyone taken up UT-Houston's "second look" offer? If so how did it go? I'm revisiting UT-H on Monday (I really liked this school and go to school right across the street so I was interested in revisiting). Also I'm assuming that the attire is the same as for interviews. I guess it's better to be overdressed than underdressed =p. Anyways I'm looking forward to seeing the school again.

Did everyone that interviewed there get that letter?

It seems like most people I've talked to did get that letter. I wouldn't be suprised if all interviewees got it.

It was discussed awhile back and I think the consensus was that everyone got that letter. :luck:

Just wondering, because some students that I know that currently go there didn't get a letter like that. Oh well.

On the whole, UT-H seems better organized this years than I have heard they were in the past. Maybe that's why there are letters going out this year. Who knows!

Yeah, they were very organized this year. What my friends told me is that they (most) didn't receive a letter like that, and a few of their friends did. I don't really think it means anything though. Anyways, this whole process sucks and I am ready to know what is going to happen.

I can't decide if this wait is worse than waiting for MCAT scores.

At least the wait for the mcat was shorter and if it was screwed up in any way you could just take another test and probably still apply the same year.

Anyone with UTH and UTSW holdouts hear anything from them yet?

I've pretty much resigned myself to not hearing from UT-H (I was also complete with them in Jun, and haven't heard a word.)

But it's in Baylor's power to make me very much not care about UT-H... all they have to do is admit me!

I know the letter doesn't really mean anything but I'm still very interested in seeing the school again. I'm also still interested to hear if anyone else has re-visited since their interviews.

I didn't get a letter like that. Oh noz...

Does anyone else find it interesting that none of the TMDSAS schools issued acceptances last week to OOS'ers (except a md/phd but thats amcas)?

About 3 weeks left before Nov 15!!! 😱
