He also said that they aren't planning on handing out scholarships til the spring, if anyone was wondering about that.

Anyone else find it weird/funny that they had "check this box if you want to be considered for competitive scholarships" on your acceptance form? I mean, who wouldn't want to be? Or was this just a way of punishing those people who dont pay attention...

I thought so, too. I guess they only want to reward the students who are committed to attending UTSA. I thought UTSA was a really cool place by the way.

How do you know there's one coming and that it's the last round?

Also everyone keeps talking about prematch offers coming out. Anyone know a date? We should hold a pot. I'm going for December 15th, just cuz its a month after the first wave.

Jan 6th is UTSW's last interview date. According to the office, they should be sending out the interview offers sometime this week though when I pressed her for an exact date she didn't narrow it down. I live in Dallas and have family here, so an invite from UTSW 😍 would be very very nice 🙂

It's a UT system thing. Every graduate program at a UT school has that. Funny thing is, when I applied to the ECE PhD program at UT-Austin, I DIDN'T check the box (my work was paying for everything) yet I was STILL awarded fellowships. Not recommending that anyone do that, however.

Just had my Dec 1st interview. Quick question to anyone who has ever interviewed at UTH. Did any of you receive a personal phone call, thanking you for the visit and refering you to the admissions office for answers to questions. Just wondering if this a premonition of life-changing news to come? 😎

i didnt get a phone call from UTH, so maybe it's only for those who they intend to accept

then again, i attending school away from home, so perhaps they called my house and i just didn't hear about it

You got the call somewhere, don't worry about it - EVERYONE gets it. Actually I don't think I got mine for like a day or two.

Does everyone also get the letter from UTH thanking them for the interview and all?

More acceptances on the way. I received an email from UTSW this morning!!!

If you dont mind me asking...those with acceptances from UTSW today what is your LMFU?

Except UT-H apparently. I never checked any box for scholarships that I remember.

I got into UTSW today. Sweet. LFMU 11/16/06. This contributes to my opinion that LFMU doesn't mean anything with any consistency.

I received a phone call two days later. Also an email from a current student asking if I had more questions. Then a letter in the mail. I interviewed on 9/1.

I have not heard back since.

LMFU for my UTSW acceptance is 12/01/2006

For those of you that interviewed at San Antonio: Did they update your file after the interview? If so did they necessarily end up in an offer or is it something they do to all files?

Thanks.

congrats y'all, keep the good vibe goingg

Guess I got passed up for pre-match acceptance at UTSW. BOO to that.

ditto. maybe they'll have another round.

Darn, well I suppose UTSW was too much to hope for...still looking for that 1st acceptance...🙄

Congrats to all who got in today morning.👍 To those who are still waiting, it is still very early and I really hope you all will be hearing soon. 🙂

😕 I don't know about y'all but I am nervous about this whole LMFU thing

It's only been a month since you sent the application in. The turnaround time is variable from application date to interview invite, but since you applied kind of late you might be waiting to interview until January...at least it looks like that if you haven't received any invites yet.

Are your stats above average for TX?

Did anyone who interviewed at UTSW on November 18th get accepted or is that too soon?

"timetoshine: Did anyone who interviewed at UTSW on November 18th get accepted or is that too soon?"

interviewed at utsw on nov 18 and was accepted this morning. no worries though, there is still one round of acceptances before the match... good luck to you!

Does anybody know what the deal is with grade curves at UTSW? I've heard students say widely varying things from "all classes will be curved in the future" and "biochem is the only curved class you will take."

I've heard from reliable sources (several current students) that only biochem is curved...maybe a couple others, but they are kind of spread over the curriculum, so you won't be taking a bunch of classes on a curve at once. I think there are only a few of them.

At interviews, I have been hearing current students say that if you interview at 3 or more Texas schools as a Texas resident, chances are that you will get accepted to at least one.

Anybody else been hearing this also? What do you think?

I am a student... Biochem was 20%-A 30%-B+ 30%-B and 20%-C (if you are over a margin I think Biochem may have been in the 60's I didn't really look hard at it. Genetics was supposed to be 92.5=A but they lowered it 90 to get the ratio passing was really low. From what I know this is more generous then other schools I think UTMB 15% get honors. Anyway grades are overblown if yu are going for a competive residency like derm or ortho they look at rank, USMLE, research, letters, school reputation, etc. The majority of our classes biochem the exception have minimum standard for certain grades and they adjust DOWNward as needed.

A friend told me that one of his interviewers told him something like that. I believe its generally true. I mean if you look at the number of applicants TMDSAS schools interview and accept (Texas residents of course!!), then the numbers appear to work out.

However, I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who can tell you from personal experience that it is BS.

I don't know why anyone didn't truthfully respond to this, but I would say yes. Prepare for next application cycle.

November 8th is when your application was received by the schools? Dr Jones from UTSA medical school spoke at my undergrad on 10/16 and he said there were 500 applications they wouldn't even open: Ones submitted on or after 10/15. I imagine most schools won't give much of a look at applications sent in around 10/15. By then, they've interviewed close to a thousand and you'd have to have something pretty spectacular to grab their eye.

But, maybe you are an exception. Best of luck to you. :luck:
