For all of the people who have interviewed at UTH, did you send a digital passport-type photo in your confirmation email? I sent my confirmation email a long time ago without the photo and they didn't say anything.

Haha! 😀 I reread the letter carefully that they sent me and they said to include in the confirmation email a photo, dietary restrictions, spouse's name, etc. I thought that the picture would probably be for security purposes BUT if you didn't send one and survived to tell about it, I shall do the same. 🙂

I just got back from TAMU interview. It kills me that I have no idea what those interviewers are thinking! Can't they even give you a hint?! I have San Antonio at the end of the month and compulsively checking e-mail for UT-H and UTMB. Evil med schools, why do you torture me?!

Dancer and I met at UT-H. Kinda odd to meet someone in real life that you've only known on the internet. I think I freaked her out a bit because I didn't know how to go about introducing myself so I just walked up and was like, "Are you dancer?" not the smoothest approach I think. I'm sure I seemed like a freak.

Not at all... I had approached someone else who I thought looked like your myspace photo but was totally wrong! I did the same thing to jota! I hope to see you at another interview!

Okay, I got an email yesterday from Texas A&M inviting me for an interview in one week! I don't want to seem ungrateful for the interview, but come on, it's just plain inconsiderate to give me more less than a week to make travel arrangements. I'm not a TX resident and it would cost me a fortune to fly in on such short notice, besides the fact that my job wouldn't be happy with me saying "oh, and by the way, I'll be gone for half of next week. See ya!" Also, their interviews are on Thursdays, which is a pain in and of itself. I'm trying to reschedule, but if they aren't going to work with me, I'll just withdraw my application.

In contrast, UT Southwestern gave me over a month's notice, and their interviews are on Saturdays, which are much more convenient for us applicants who are working full-time or are full-time students. They were much more considerate.

Just thought I'd throw this out there.

I agree with you on the 1 week notice. I've heard that A&M is very easy to work with and will reschedule you for just about any time. About Thursdays... imagine if every school interviewed on Saturdays. There would be so many conflicts. I agree, plane tickets aren't cheap. Of course we're eager for our interviews, but let's at least have some common courtesy of advanced notice. Let us know how the rescheduling goes. Hopefully they're flexible with you.

Regarding Tech and rolling admission -- I interviewed there on Wednesday and they said they have no idea how many spots they are going to give in the prematch offers... They said they would know how many by November 15th 🙂

A&M said they are going to offer quite a few spots (100+) for the rolling admissions.

They offered 349 spots last year, and came out with a class of 83. Its just a fact of life that people will decline and go elsewhere so they have to over offer. At least thats how I understand it.

I was thinking about that myself. In the context of the match, I think acceptance probably means something like the total number of people they ranked from the lowest ranked person that matriculated to the #1 person on their list, because ALL of those people had the possibility of attending.

The concept of an acceptance is kind of wierd in the context of the match, and that's the way that I make sense of it (which says nothing about the validity of what I am saying!)

No offense to A&M but they usually have to offer 2x - 4x the number of spots to fill their class (possibly more this year). In my opinion, it is because they send lots of people into rural primary care compared to other M.D. schools. If that is your goal, then no school is better for you.

I'm worried about transportation though because there's stuff scheduled into the evening, and I'd really like to go home that day. I'd rather not leave for Houston that morning either so this schedule is going to make this a long interview trip...

My boss yelled at me for looking at personal email, but I told him it was a med school interview invite and he quickly got over it.
