(no offense intended for those w/o interviews) I have left all my interviews feeling good about my chances, but then as the days go by and I'm replaying the interview over in my head I start thinking that what I thought was a positive response was actually not. I'm hoping that this is just further manifestation of my recently aquired paranoia.

I just got invited to set up an interview time with TCOM!! (I'll have to call them to set it up until Tuesday though, because they're closed for labor day...😛 )

My second interview in Texas!!! Yohooooooooooooo!!! 😀
 
Today was a good day. Picked up my (snail) mail after I finished volunteering, and what do you know, AN INTERVIEW INVITE FROM UTHSC-SA! (for 9/25) I guess they pulled me off the hold pile, so those of you that were processed a long time ago (I was processed 6/21) there is still hope.

I got a question for ya'll-------as you're interviewing, do you have a pad of paper for notes or anything, or do you just keep eye contact and nod and make mental notes. I have my first interview on Friday and I'm SO nervous about every little detail!!
 
I got an invite to interview at Southwestern to interview on 9/16....surprised to get an invite on labor day but how cool is that anyway...anyone else going to be there then?

damn congrats on the interview at UTSA and wherever you're interviewing friday. i have my padfolio with me when i go into an interview and i'll have it open and ready to go in case i need to write down any notes, answers to my questions, or the interviewer's contact info if he/she doesn't have a card.

Congrats, rowdyrock!

Those of you that have already interviewed at UT-SA, did you go the the social the night before? (at the flying saucer) .....and was it worth it? I'm debating just driving down there from Austin the day of the interview (looks like the day starts at 10:00 so I should have plenty of time to get down there) but I would miss the social the night before.

Personally, I detest the paper pad during an interview or a portfolio or binder or anything. They'll more than likely give you folder with a bunch of info on the school. That's fine but don't take anything else. Take a pen with you though. At one place they gave me a folder but no pen.

Take it easy on the eye contact. It's not a staring contest. On the other hand though, don't look up or down during the entire interview.

San Antonio is a great first school to interview. You'll love the students there and the faculty - all very friendly and relatively low stress, though YMMV.
 
Does UTSA also send an email invite along with the snail mail invite? I'm nervous about mail getting lost in my apt. building.

They only sent an email invitiation when they were late sending the snail mail invites out...so it is likely that they will not send email

I agree on the portfolio binder paperpad thing. As far as eye contact goes, I think you can go for more if it's a more smiley interview if you know what I mean, but long periods of serious eye contact with a little slight nodding, smiling, or something else to soften it probably comes of a bit aggressive or standoffish.

At your interviews, which school gave you the nicest "presents" thus far. For me UTH wins with the orange backpack thingie.

Best lunch, I liked the getting waiter service and ordering off a menu thing at TCOM. I'm just not a buffet kind of guy.

Just for fun, I'm not suggesting we make decisions based on these things.

I think the worst lunch was at Galveston, or maybe my taste just isn't refined.

Well, I'm not a cheese fan so perhaps that's the problem. It was a pasta dish with white cheese sauce (I'm not sure if it was alfredo) with strips of chicken in it. They also give you a tossed salad. Unfortunately there weren't any other options so if you don't like cheese or pasta or are lactose intolerant, stock up on breakfast or snacks. The cookies and breadstick were good, no complaints there. 😀

The only place that I have interviewed at where they gave out free crap was UTMB, so I guess that they had the best 🙂 OTOH, I agree with BlackBantie, UTMB definitely had the worst food. For us, it was 1 piece of fried chicken. That's all I had. They had salad too, but they ONLY had Ranch dressing. Lovely.

Although it sounds like TCOM might be better, (I didn't apply there) for me, A&M had the best food by far. Fajitas, enchiladas and a HUGE piece of Tres Leches (? I think that's what it was) cake.
 
Sweet. A&M is my first interview next Thursday. Yay for good food. Especially since the day is so long. I mean 7 am??? UTSA starts at 10....

Finally, some important questions to answer when deciding which school to attend.

Present: tie between UT-H (backpack) and UTMB (t-shirt), Although I had to win the t-shirt so edge goes to UT-H

Lunch: Best: would be Tech (chicken), although in west Texas shouldn't we be served steak? Worst: definitely UTMB (spaghetti????), what were they thinking I was trying so hard not too spill sauce on my nicewhite shirt, I might of came off as ******ed.

Welcome/Greeting: Best: tie between many. Worst: Tech, all every one kept asking was are we in the right place??

Coolest Anatomy Lab: Best: UTMB, old and classic. Worst: UT-H, because never got to see it.

Overall Winner: ????????

Pay attention to the PowerPoint that talks about the school's history and such. There will be a "quiz" where you can win prizes. We didn't have any shirts at ours... 🙁 They also gave away a prize to the person that traveled the farthest.

I really liked the anatomy lab at UTMB but I'm just worried that things will start smelling worse than they have to with all of the huge windows in the roof. The cadavers will be baking underneath the hot TX summer sun... 👎

Nah, Old Red is air conditioned, and those cadavers are jacked up with so much preservative that I wouldn't worry about that. UTMB wins the best anatomy lab award -- whatever that's worth.

hahaha the menu is still the same. i had the same thing at last year's interview. man that cake was good. after that lunch, all i wanted to do was take a nap...good thing i had an hour to kill before my second interview...

apparently, TCOM's anatomy lab is pretty sweet. i've only seen it once but it looked like other anatomy labs i'd seen + lots of plasma tvs and cool tanks. shrugs, i'll have to get used to it when i take anatomy next semester.
 
Did anyone else get a phone call a day or two after their interview with UT-H? I did. I thought it was quite classy. I loved their facilities, staff and community.

Hey Anastasis...

I don't know if you saw my answer in the The MCAT thread, but I won't be going to the Sunday event in San Antonio...I couldn't find a cheap plane that arrived early enough.

In a way, I was relieved, being under 21 and all. Maybe I would have had to be escorted all night long by this grumpy med student while everyone pointed and laughed at me (okay, so probably not, but who knows?).

Should I be ranking my choice of schools on the TMDSAS website after every interview?

Ok, so that's 2 saying NO to a portfolio??? I just bought one because I also wanting something to keep my wallet/keys/small water bottle/etc in, in addition to pens and paper. Did you take NOTHING but the folder???? I'm female and I'd rather not take a purse.
Getting so nervous for UTMB on FRIDAY!! I can't wait to eat the crappy food you all speak of :laugh:

That's just our style, minimalist you should take whatever you need to carry your stuff. Don't be nervous, it's a lot better than you'd expect.
 
been reading this thread for a long time, and wanted to say thanks for all of the information, and good luck to everyone in the interview/application process!!
