Don't give up hope -- this is a crazy process but I think med school admissions is just made that way to weed out the weak...
For whatever its worth, I am a very average applicant (low MCAT, good GPA) and I got 4 offers so it does work...

I dont consider myself weak, but i'm getting fed up with the texas system for various reasons but not b/c i havent been accepted. Sadly, it is probably what i can expect once i do get into a texas med school to be treated like another number. Damn public schools!
 
Are you guys suggesting the Texas schools should accept all who apply?

uhh.. yeah for reals cuz like everybody who wants to be a doctor should get in! :meanie:

ok sarcasm aside, i keep coming back to sdn and reading threads because they give me HOPE. and proof that numbers aren't everything, even though they reallly reeaaally do help. 😉

and honestly i hope everyone on this thread gets in somewhere eventually!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. 🙂

This is a little different, but I lived in another state and went to a school in the northeast for undergrad and moved here relatively recently and I don't think it has hurt me.
 
has anyone tried to update their fall semester grades on TMDSAS? and are you guys sending in individual transcripts to all the schools whether you have had a prematch offer or not?

thanks for the input, glad to hear some people in the same situation have been getting some love. I was also asked that question at all four of my interviews (the four UT schools) and thought i had a pretty good answer (close proximity, family history there, couldnt afford to turn down their large scholarship offer) and i stressed that I was set on living in texas, so i think i did everything right....

i think more than anything im trying desperately to figure out why i havent heard a peep from anyone (lmfu still 11/03)...the waiting really sucks and its definitely not helping my finals studying! lol i have on in an hour and im posting on sdn...

i don't want to sound like a jerk or anything, but should i be worried about not getting in at all....interviews late sept-mid oct at the UT's, 34P, 3.78 gpa....no research, a little shadowing, one summer working in a hospital, limited volunteering....has anyone heard of similar app's getting rejected outright? i am really nervous about the match, this prematch shiz sucks imho....

ok back to studying, thanks for the help!

Yep heard of people with decent MCAT & GPA getting rejected due to lack of clinical experience. Hope you don't end up joining that pool.

Personally, with those numbers I think you will get in. It's sad, but I think it's safe to say that I won't get anymore TX interviews. I really thought that this year I would get them and join the SDN club of interviewing almost everywhere in TX. It's December and I haven't gotten a single MD interview, which worries me. I'm grateful for the TCOM acceptance, but I still wonder what is so repulsive about me that no other school in my home state wants to talk to me.

I got very positive input from going to an out of state private school for undergrad. We're different, make the class more diverse, and stand out a bit more in a good way.
 
Just got an email from Dr. Dalley for acceptance to Texas Tech. LMFU was 12/11, but I also received an offer from A&M on 12/12. Check your emails!:luck:

hmm, how much would be a minimum for donation to these schools. i have a nice shiny $10 gift card to Starbucks that could have an admissions director's name on it. does that sweeten my application any 😛
 
Does anyone know what exactly the validation date indicates? according to tmdsas....

"Validation Date – date the application was validated or when an update has been made to the validation."

ok i got that, but what does it mean in terms of prematch acceptances and the application process? my validation date is 12/11/06. does that mean i'm done until Match?

Congratulations! Me Too! (Acceptance to Texas Tech) My LMFU is 12/4/06. So, prematch offers are definitely still being handed out! Good Luck to everyone! :luck:

I do, and I was hoping that it meant something nice from UTSW, but I guess it could also be UT-Houston finally updating TMDSAS that I accepted their offer. Sigh. (Not that I'm not thrilled about UT-H, but I was extremely impressed at my UTSW interview.)

Validation date is TMDSAS's version of AMCAS's verification - since they don't wait until all transcripts are in to send applications to schools, they only validate/verify those applicants who end up with interviews, coincidentally also reducing the number they have to go through, I imagine. So, being validated means that TMDSAS has gone through your application and found it good.

Now that I think about it. An LMFU of 12/14 could be a rejection from A&M or UTSW since I didn't interview at either school.
 
Those with an acceptance to A&M, what was your LMFU and when did you receive your acceptance? My LMFU is updated, and I'm trying to find out if this is a possible A&M acceptance! 😀

I have 12/14 as well, I haven't heard back from UTMB and UTSW, I also interviewed and was accepted at UTH

I don't think that it was UTH adding my acceptance of their offer because I had my LMFU change prior to me sending my acceptance

I hope I don't busrt anyone's bubble, but my LMFU changed, but my course work thing updated too, as well as I was just finally validated. At least in my case I think TMDSAS was just doing an overhaul. But I could be wrong any everyone could be getting acceptances 🙂 I will keep my fingers crossed and will keep praying for everyone!
 
What is an LMFU? I've seen it on several posts and have no clue what it stands for. Thanks

I hope everyone applied to a few out of state schools for safety. I applied to all the texas schools last year with no acceptance, now I´m going into the match with two interview invites in texas and an out of state acceptance already, so I don´t really care much about it.

If you dont mind me asking, how many interviews did you have last year?
 
I updated my preferences in the match list and did the accept/decline offers and saved both on 12/12 -- my LMFU has not changed since 12/08 so I don't think LMFUs are changing just for that... in case any one still likes to compare things 😀

Go to the top and search for LMFU. It has been explained dozens of times in this very post. That is why people are slow in responding.

EDIT: I see you are just posting it over and over. Don't you have something better to do in San Marcos? 😛

I'm waiting for my asthma medication to sink in before I go running. Otherwise, no I guess I have nothing better to do in San Marcos. Oh, and by the way, I refuse to look through mounds of posts to find my answer. I'm just going to wait until someone decides to be nice. I believe in this country!🙂 There has to be a least one nice person.

Searching can sometimes be frustrating on this site, since if you choose the wrong terms it'll make you wait 25 secs before trying again.

Still, if everybody else on a thread seem to know, it's a good bet that at least twenty people have asked already, and the rest will get cranky when you make the 21st.

"Looking through mounds of posts" when you first find a long-standing thread like this isn't extraordinary effort. It's basic good manners.
 
Fine, I learned my lesson. Now will you please just tell me what LMFU stands for. Sheesh.

Patient: Doctor, doctor, I can barely breath. My hands are turning blue. I'm soo cold. I feel like I'm going to faint...

Doctor (you guys that didn't respond to my LMFU question or responded rudely): Well, those sound like pretty standard symptoms. Why don't you look them up in a medical text. It's only good manners after all. Why should I be responsible for doing a service for someone else?!

Sadly, the patient dies. And all because the pompous doctor refused to help. How sad....

In case you're wondering, I am being a little sarcastic. Of course, there is a grain of truth nestled in this analogy. Also, yes I really am going to fight all I can to not look at the previous posts. I've gone this far... Its like getting into med school. I'm never going to quit

lmfu = last master file update... there is a lot of speculation going on about what it means exactly, and there are theories but nothing official.
 
So... anyone hear anything about that LMFU lately?
