One fact that supports the Dean's comment is the average age of a matriculant at UTHSCSA (27 I think, MSAR). I believe it makes sense that nontraditional applicants in that age range will bring more to the table in terms of life experiences, which admissions considers important. Certainly there are many applicants immediately out of undergrad or older that do the same, many at UTHSCSA. Also, there are students at UTHSCSA that have very high GPA's and MCAT scores (40) and I bet they also had some great experiences.
According to the MSAR, the highest MCAT for the entering class of 2003 was a 35...
Indy's MCAT is well above this...
