Hey guys, one quick question. I received my paper notification in the mail yesterday from TMDSAS saying that my application had been sent to the medical schools yet in the top right corner there still wasn't a date for verification. Now, when I check the status of my documents online it says it has been sent to the schools but again there is no verification date at the top. I'm wondering if this is normal?

Thanks,
Lance
I received the same letter, but when I checked the TCOM website, they were missing one of my letters that was sent with my primary. Is THAT normal? 😕

Thanks for all the support guys. Their last interview is December 13. I guess we can't win 'em all.

Got a TCOM invite!  (Nov.4) 😱

For those that know me, you know that this is my #1!!! 👍

Oh, and I'll have three interviews while I'm there....2 for the DO program, and one for the Ph.D program! YAY!

It was funny, I was studying in my car and had fallen asleep on my Endocrinology book, and missed the phone call! When I called back (after running around my car a couple of times), she set the interview date, and said, "WIll that work for you?" I was like, "ARe you kidding me? I'd come up there at three o'clock in the morning to interview with you guys!"

Congrats UNTLabrat. I am really happy for you 🙂

So, is a later interview (December, January) always worse? I just can't understand why UTHSCSA doesn't like me....it's really getting to my self-esteem, especially since I was interested in interviewing there.

You know this whole thing really erks me....some schools love me, some schools don't even want to gimme a chance! Sorry I'm just confused and venting at 7:30 this morning! 🙁

I hear ya.... I got an interview at UTSW but no SA and I've been complete since late July. I'm not holding my breath for them anymore.... Shame too b/c I had heard nothing but good things about SA and had a good friend go there and he loved it. Bummer.

Congrats LabRAt!!!! 👍 Now, if only they would give me an invite 🙁

YEAY!! Congrats.. They are super friendly there !

I go to UNT too! I'm not a bio major, but we still may have had some classes together.

Thanks, guys. I have a week to prepare, and my lab supervisor wants to "help me" and I just talked to my old biochem prof (who is the greatest, BTW) and she gave me things to think about. 👍

They ARE so friendly there. I've been at the HSC since last semester, volunteering. I'm so excited. I can't believe I get to interview for the Ph.D, too. 🙂

If anyone else is going to be there that day, please PM me!

And I'm still waiting to hear from Houston, so elee can buy me lunch and I can buy Evo a beer!

Word. I haven't forgotten that. 🙂

Read my latest post in Antenna regarding your interview.

So i am confused..if match day is not until feb how do people have invites from the Texas schools already?

Did they do EAP or MDPHD program or something? Just wondering, i interviewed at UTMB and A&M back in sept and I am ancy to know if i got in.

Only Baylor has given out acceptances (they are on AMCAS)

We are just talking about interview invites here..... 🙂

Match day in Feb is still the day we all find out where we got in 👍

So I just looked at San Antonio's website and just now read the admissions update. So, my initial reaction was "@#$@", as the page said that the school needed to receive all secondaries by the 15th of October. They received mine around the 20th, and I originally thought that I was before the deadline, as I was going by the deadline listed on the application (which is November 1st). Anyone have any idea if my application is going to be considered? Roja, oh dear beholder of all information pertaining to admissions, do you have any idea? I'll try to call tomorrow and see what's up, hopefully my secondary hasn't been sent to the waste bin.

Opinions or thoughts from anyone who interviewed at Tech? I've got a really tight schedule, and I'm trying to decide if I can even fit it in.
I thought it was a great day and I plan on ranking them 2nd or 3rd, but I haven't gone to UTSW yet. I really enjoyed my day there...if you have specific q's, pm me.

BTW, Congrats UNTLabrat!! 👍 😀

I just got back from A&M today and boy was I impressed!!! I can't say that enough! What a day and Filo was awesome!!!!

Did you see that post txguy (I just read your PM)? Haha, don't want your expectations to be too high for A&M. Who knows what you'll think, but it looks like me and Jess both loved A&M!

On another note, I'm surprised that this hasn't been mentioned, but....does anyone else wish that Texas had ROLLING ADMISSIONS instead of this crazy match thing where you only get into one school? I keep looking at that acceptance thread and wondering, hmmmmmm, if Texas had normal admissions like all of the other states, would we be receiving acceptances around this time? More crazy thoughts from the neurotic AsianDoc....

Oh, and CONGRATS UNTLABRAT! I'm so happy happy happy for ya =)

I also loved TAMU. It's going to be tough to rank them appropriately. 🙁

And no to rolling admissions. I think the match does a good job...though I wish they could match everyone by 1 Jan or something. :sigh:

Haha yep, it seems A&M has caught alot of students' attention. I can't wait to go there myself! 😀

I also wish Texas had rollling admissions--but at the same time, the match system has its advantages too. At least there's no holding seats at 7 medical schools! I am starting to believe that we will all end up where we are supposed to be.

Only 95 days and 1 hour left! :meanie:

better for who? if they know what they're looking for it's better to offer invites to people whom they're more likely to accept. why waste the invite?

Well, considering that UTHSCSA considers the whole applicant rather than just numbers, it would seem to me that that the margin of error for that set of criteria would be a lot lower post-interview than pre.

Anyone can BS their way through an application with clubs, involvement, etc. I'm fairly involved in the student organization scene here at UT and I see the BS that goes on constantly: it's basically all for grad school apps. Volunteer work can be less faked than that other stuff, but I know people that have done less impactful community service than I have who have gotten interviews to San Antone.

I totally understand the "why waste the time" point. However, I think there is a difference between why waste the time "because this guy won't go here" or "because he is not the kind of person we want here".

The last thing I want to do is toot my own horn (especially since I've been waitlisted at UMich and haven't heard from Baylor yet) but I have gotten interviews at pretty rigidly-screening schools (Northwestern, Penn, Hopkins, and Cornell), so I really doubt there is a huge hole in my "application"

Maybe there is a gigantic deficiency in me post-interview (and hey, to be honest, there is some evidence for that), but to not interview me at all? I would think it's all about numbers.

Hey guys,

Can you all be specific about how A &M impressed you? This is the only TX school that I applied to that I didnt submit my secondary and I'm beginning to wonder if this is a mistake....
Thanks!

If you still have time I would certainly send it! The deadline is 11-1, right? 😕

I haven't interviewed there yet, but like a previous poster said before (I think it was roja talking about Tech?), you don't want to be kicking yourself in February if you don't match anywhere. Besides, I've heard only good things about A&M, so there is even more reason to send that secondary! I know its the longest one (3 essays), but it is well worth your time.

Good luck :luck:

I don't even really know what this means. Are you saying that invites should be based soley on numbers? There is definately a school of thought that ascribes to this. However, this is not Dr. Jone's vision. And he has done remarkably well with his selection committee at changing the face of the school. The students that go to UTHSCSA do incredibly well in residency match. There is an incredible amount of thought that goes into who gets interviews there. And there is a reason that high scores don't always equate to the kind of students that they want there.

Now, having said that, when the members of the selection committee review applications, despite the strong influence of Dr. Jones, they may bring thier own biases to the table. So when they summarize your entire application, they may spin it one way or the other. That is why one year, you might not get an invite and the next year you get an admission.

Its also why out of all the things in a medical school application, your personal statement is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.

I havent' scrolled completely back so I'm not sure I really understand your statement. Sorry. 😳

UNTlabrat Congrats! I have friends that are seniors in TCOM's FP residency. One of them was planning to go into peds and when her husband interviewed there, fell so in love with them, she switched. 🙂

anjak I would just call the office. Unfortunately, like all UT schools, they are a huge entity. It may very well be that the people in charge of the web site haven't updated the information. Don't panic. If you can't get a straight awnser, PM me and I will contact someone and find out for you.

I don't think it's that UTHSCSA doesn't interview people with good stats. I know people with 4.0's and 36's who got interviews. No, like Indy, I won't ever understand why they didn't give me an interview, but hey, there were enough schools that did like me, and that's what counts. At my interview in Saint Louis, the dean told us that to be interviewing this early (it was September), we all had superb personal statements, letters of rec, ECs, and stats. After hearing that, I knew that there was NOTHING WRONG with my application. It's just the unfortunate roll of the dice.....I'm still disappointed, but I'll get over it, because I have a lot to be thankful for. Some advice from my dad: What's meant to be is meant to be. Wherever you end up is where you were supposed to in the first place.

And it's Friday, so I think we should put some positve stuff on this thread!!!

I've got some good news: I had Taco Cabana in College Station on Wednesday AND Thursday!!! Whoo-hooo!!!! Yum!! 😀

The way that I eat, I should really be a large woman. LOL

Since I have only interviewed at A&M so far I can't compare it with the other schools, but A&M seems to be concerned most about its students. The professors know each person's name, the "library" is home away from home, and the students seem to work together well. Scott & White is an impressive clinical facility, and contrary to popular belief, there are some centers in College Station to get clinical exp. in the first two years there. The interviewers tried to get to know us, asking a few challenging questions but looking more for personality and how we relate rather than debate skills. They definately caught my eye. I'll see after I interview at other schools.

Thanks!

There was someone on this thread that said we would be kicking ourselves if we didn't match *anywhere* and hadn't applied to all the schools. But, I think the school is only part of the equation. Begin anecdote: I went to undergrad at A&M and know that I can't live in College Station again--While the school is excellent, I know that I would not be as successful in my endeavors because outside of school I would be miserable. It's an excellent institution and I strongly believe that many students are a perfect fit for the school--I'm just not one of them. I've had someone tell me that I must not be very motivated if I am going to be choosy about my schools for this reason, but I think I am only being prudent.

For me, the hardest thing about the process now is that everything is currently out of my hands. Up to this point, we applicants had the upper hand and could take initiative to make changes to our c.v., study harder, turn around applications faster. Now, its wait wait wait..... But what can ya do!

Safe and Happy Halloween weekend to everyone. 😀

I didn't mean to imply that good stats don't interview. they most definately do. however, its a whole package deal. And there is a degree of randomness to the process. Unfortunately, maybe the person who read your application wasn't stunned, or had a bias. Its hard to figure out.

I can say this, SA has a ton of applicants with similar applications... great scores, good EC's, good LOR, okay PS. The thing is, there are lots of great apps.. there has to be something distinguishing... There are lots of okay PS. but you really have to an outstanding one. This is reallly triicky. And there there is just hte random element part. *shrug* its not over yet...

Hey guys. All this talk about TAMU and Tech mixing things up is really true. I thought I knew how I wanted to rank the schools, and after my interviews, I am confused all over again. All of the schools have pros and cons, it's going to be SO HARD to rank them. I have another factor to consider, my boyfriend who has a great job in Houston. I'd like to rank by proximity to Houston, but now it is just reeally hard! Aaah...

I just called San Antonio and they told me that I have been invited for an interview on th 15th of Nov! 🙂 🙂 🙂 the lady was super-nice and told me the invite was in the mail! For those of you who haven't heard from SA yet, I'd say call them up. Hopefully she will still be around and give you good news too.
This is my second interview, TCOM was my first! 🙂 Someone up there does love me...yipeeee I will have a good weekend now :hardy:

Gosh, I go away to Austin for a few days and miss all the good news!

Congrats on your first invite, UNTLabrat!!

I got back into town last night and after playing with my daughter and getting her to bed, I checked my caller ID and found a 817 number (Ft. Worth), but no messages on the voicemail, turns out it was some telemarketer but for a couple of seconds there I was excited to think I MAY have been called.

Congrats to everyone with new interviews! It's amazing how great I feel when I get that email or letter. Keep the joy coming!

I know what ya mean--I was especially surprised by A&M, a school that I thought I'd be ranking last! I have a boyfriend who will be completing a teaching program here at UT, so College Station looks like the next closest city to Austin besides San Antonio (no comment). It would be easier if I were single and only had to worry about myself! I don't even want to know what long distance will do to our relationship =(

Oh and congrats on all of the interviews--txguy, I could have sworn that you had already interviewed at UTMB--this is my other number one, tied with A&M!

Haha, your memory is correct--I interviewed at UTMB back in September. I was just recalling the experience of getting good news on a Friday 😀

I decided to go as Donald Trump to a halloween party! I got a mask and I have a pink tie and suit 😀

Yah, I went to Randall's today to get groceries (around noon), and there was a line of about 50 people! I couldn't believe it! I'm feeling a little conflicted over the candidates this year, so I dunno if I'll vote or not....

Vote!! One way or another!! Choosing not to vote is NOT an option. I don't care if you vote for the other guy, as long as you participate. 🙂

Here's a conversation I had with my mom::

My mom says, "we need to go vote."
I ask, "who are you voting for?"
"Bush."
"Okay, well I'm voting for kerry. I guess our votes cancel out."
"Yea, I guess we don't need to go to the polls." 🙄

Does anybody know anything about publishing web pages through Front Page? I keep getting a "Permission Denied" error message, but my brother who is giving me web hosting space insists that it is my fault and I have permission to store files on the web hosting space. This is my first time and he won't help me so I was wondering if y'all knew anything about it. 😕

That's hilarious....and Evo, I'll go vote cuz you said so....for Bush, because my parents told me so (my mom keeps reminding me via phone AND email)! No j/k, Bush seems to be the lesser of two evils, as one of my friends put it!

Unfortunately, I am only familiar with homesite. HOwever, you need to look at which uploader you are using... idoes homesite upload on its own? You may need to go into the preferences and type in a password of somesort.....

if you are still having trouble do a google search from frontpage AND 'permission denied" error.

50 ppl?? That's nothing. Try 200, no joke. I just went to Fiesta, and there's a HUGE line. IT wraps from one side of the store to the other! Grrr! The police officer said it was taking about an hour and ten minutes! I just think I'll vote on Tuesday...
GO KERRY!

I use my brother's web space too. 😀 ..and I used to use FrontPage for publishing. Perhaps you're using the wrong username/password combo or the host may not support FrontPage extensions. I recommend uploading via a FTP program. I use ws_ftp but there are many others available for free download.
