so what have people heard about UTMB, and what did they witness when they went there for interview. Their PBL currriculum doesn't seem very effective to me. what y'll think. I wanna know everything about the med school.

If you're flying to Dallas anytime soon from Houston for Thanksgiving, UTSW interviews, etc., you can get a roundtrip ticket at orbitz.com for $115 right now. I believe that it's an internet special. Late

Thanks! Nope, it wasn't. Snail mail only. Showed up in a big envelope with a UTMB logo on it. If you're overseas (as I think you mentioned that you were in earlier posts?), it may make sense to hit up the admissions office with a phone call and find out your status. You may save yourself a week or two of waiting for the envelope to float across the Atlantic.

Thanks! I didn't get an email notice, just the large envelope. If it gets lost in the mail I assume you're screwed. 😀

I'm getting on the phone right now. I've got interviews at San Antonio, Tech, and A&M the week of 12/3. Definitely worth saving a trip if UTMB has labeled me worthy of an interview. Thanks!

I believe you need to send in an updated transcript each semester until you graduate, for them to keep up to date records.

When is the interview, Mousey?

The first one is 8:45, the third at 2:00. Somewhere in between is the second (for the Ph.D), TBA when I get there. 😱

I went to see my lab supervisor today and break the good news. He was very excited, and gave me the downlow on "things he asks about when he interviews the med students." I guess they won't let him interview me, huh? 😛

Bought an awesome suit tonight. I'll be knocking 'em dead. 👍

Not necessarily....I got an invite in early October for December 11. Some folks JUST got interviews, and theirs are scheduled for December 4. So, those who are still waiting on UTSW, don't give up hope!

Just wanted to pass on some good news to my fellow Texas Applicants....Got my acceptance to Drexel yesterday (ironically, the one day since 15 October that I hadn't called home to see if there was anything in the mail for me)! While I am still hoping for a Texas acceptance come 1 February, the stress of actually getting *into* medical school is off. Now I get to quit my job and play 😀

To make yesterday even cooler, my mom gave me my great great grandfather's solid brass mortar and pestle set (one big and one small) that he used as a physician during the civil war to grind medicine. Apparently, when I was young and expressed interest in being a doctor, my grandmother had passed these along to my mom with the intent that one day these were to be displayed in my office as a physician. Funny thing is that I decided in college not to pursue medicine and now after working as a chemical engineer for 3 years, I finally have changed course back to medicine and been accepted. I had no idea they existed until yesterday--and am completely surprised that my mom hadn't mentioned them.

Thought you guys would appreciate the story. Best of luck to all during these stressful times--the hard work pays off in the end.

Hey UTKB, we got similar stats and I was processed mid august but I have not yet heard from dallas and san antonio, and I really would love the opprtunity to go to dallas for medical school. I don't understand why this is the case. and i have EC's and everthing, what do you think the deal is.

Hey thehopeful. I don't know why you haven't been invited. I am a reapplicant and last year I didn't get interviews with these schools. Things that come to mind: I have a full time job working with animals and performing microsurgery on them....Maybe it's the work experience, I hear UTHSCSA values life experience. Dunno 😕 Sorry I can't be of better service. 🙁

Another thing I didn't add to mdapplicants: under #46 of the TMDSAS application (unique circumstances), I added that I attended a magnet school in high school geared towards students interested in the health sciences. That didn't impress 'em last year, but I didn't place it in this section, I only mentioned it in my PS. Yes, it's a high school activity, but maybe it will give some perspective....
