TEXAS Med Schools Entering Class *2005* Applicant Thread part 01

Quick question:

On the Texas A&M essay question that asks you to "Describe any circumstances indicative of some hardship...," can I not answer this question? I really don't believe that, giving the criteria they listed as potential hardships, I have any hardships really worth discussing without saying something lame and stretched, such as the death of my pet gerbil has reinforced my drive to help the sick. What is your folks' take on this question? Thanks

I didn't put anything down because I couldn't write anything without making it sound lame or streched. Actually, I put N/A (Not Applicable), and I still got an invite. Good Luck 🙂

It's 2 and a half to three hours north of Houston and about an hour west of Shreveport.

Don't worry about not knowing where it is....hopefully you won't ever have to come here b/c there isn't much to see except a lot of pine trees and a occasionally a big fat man wearing overalls with nothing on underneath.

I have to say I almost tore it up w/o opening it. The return address was on the back flap and the stamp was metered and said something about non-profit something or other. I get so much junk mail, I'm pretty good at spotting it and I rip most of it up before trashing it.

I was so excited too, cuz I thought I had my first interview invite!

Also, I don't know if any of y'all have the following info, but I thought I would post it for anybody who doesn't have it. It's in an attached Word document since I really couldn't create a table in here. I got the info from a friend so don't blame me if a hundreths place digit is off or something like that isn't correct. It's so you can get a general idea and it's all in one place if you want to print it out.

I updated with the Baylor information. I broke it into in-state applicants and out-of-state applicants because it gives a much more accurate picture. However, the avg GPA and MCAT are overall I believe.

All this information can be found in US News online--just pay 15 bucks and you have access to all the stats and fancy shmancy bar/pie graphs.

Well, on their website it's listed as 3.67....It doesn't say, but I am guessing it's from 2003.

Ok so I am interviewing in Galveston on Friday and I signed up to stay with a student... I sent in my check and the form a few weeks ago, but I haven't received anything in the mail or my email and I'm getting kinda worried... I don't know where I am supposed to go tomorrow, and I don't really have anyone to contact. Anyone else have this problem before, and if so how did you go about figuring out who you were staying with??

Hope Interviews are going well. My name is George Alsop and I'm a MS2 at UTMB.
I'm President of The Phi Beta Pi Fraternity and a friend of mine who was applying this year told me about this site and asked me to put up a post telling ya'll that you can have a free night's stay at the Fraternity House before your interview at UTMB. We've already had a few guys stay with us and it'll give you a unique insight to UTMB and Med School life in general. The Fraternity System at UTMB is unique and is almost the opposite of what fraternities were like in college (Think more like the movie Nerds). We've got guys in the house that are in all phases of Med School and even a guy who's doing his Residency at UTMB so there will be lots of people to answer your questions. Our Fraternity usually places well in the various residencies and having guys right across the hall to study with helps out.
You should receive something in your interview packet with our contact info but my e-mail is [email protected] if you need to contact me. We're a block away from the school and right across from the Fieldhouse (rec center), and you can snag a free dinner if you make it to the house by 6.

This is awesome! Also, looks like Baylor's averages didnt go up like others had said....on the other hand, UTSW's average MCAT went from a 31.9 to a 33.3!!! They also had a higher avg. GPA than Baylor!!! Geezus wheezus....I sense a little Southwestern/Baylor competition....

Hey guys, I just got back from my A&M interview. What a long day...I'm so tired and I have a test tomorrow 🙁. A&M did a great job of selling themselves and I will definitely consider bumping them up on my ranking list.


Btw, looking at the paper they gave us, the mean GPA and MCAT for the 2004 entering class was 3.70/27.66

The night before event was really a student appreciation day that I guess they also invited people interviewing the next day to, but as far as I know there is not one across the board for all interview days. They might just invite people to events happening on campus if there are any. When I interviewed at UTSW, I actually drove in that morning. Hope the info helps!

lol, I was in Pre-IB at Clark and IB my first semester Jr year at PESH, but then they told me I had to write that long as hell paper and I quit. Best decision I've ever made in my life 😛 Not like I was shooting for some top undergrad school. I went to UT austin too.

"If TMDSAS processed your application to us on (date processed) then it was reviewed for the first time within about a week of that date. If you have not received an interview invitation (through email or regular mail) then you are still in the applicant pool and your application will continue to be reviewed on a weekly basis until the end of the interview season which is in January."
