I haven't got anything back from the texas med schools. No rejection or anything. I checked my status and the categories have all been complete for quite some time. What's happening or what is going on?

Was anyone here interviewed by WashU last week? There were a bunch of Texas residents there (6 I think) b/c they supposedly do their acceptances by region. They must have needed another Texan to fill a slot or something. Anyways, did anyone get an acceptance from them recently?

What! What happened to them working over the holidays to send invites? That's what they told me. Oh well....hmmm, maybe I should call tomorrow and see if they give me the same answer. I've heard of a couple of other schools give different answers to the same questions (refer to previous posts on this thread).hmgcoa said:

BREAKING NEWS!
Okay, not breaking, but interesting nonetheless. I just called TMDSAS about receiving transcripts/what this has to do with the match/validation dates. She seemed a little annoyed because I was asking her so many questions (hehe). THIS lady told me that TMDSAS only needs fall transcripts in order to validate; this must be done before matriculation--not before the match. She also said that they JUST began validating, and that it has nothing to do with the match. Validation, according to her, is a very long and slow process and cannot be completed until all of the schools have finished interviewing (whatever that means!). I guess it'd be nice to be validated before the match, as "validation" can only be a good thing, but it is NOT absolutely necessary before February 1.
Disclaimer--I still think it's a good idea to get those transcripts in ASAP!

Yah, we're funny. We're not New Yorkers, that's for sure. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, so yes, 40 degrees is really cold! It doesn't help that I'm really small (think typical Asian girl) and get cold very easily. I think I'd die (literally) in New York or DC.

About 30 degrees and snowing right now in Germany. Only about 1/2 inch on the ground, but the roads were slippery on the way home. The show is a beautiful accent to the Christmas markets. Since yesterday was the shortest day of the year, I now have the joy of looking forward to days that will be less than 18 hours in the dark!

This thread was the livliest (did I spell that right?) on the board and now...zippo. I guess its coming up quick on Christmas and I guess interview season is almost done and we've beaten (like a red headed step child) all the issues concerning the match...validation dates, transcripts, etc.

Got in from Lubbock last night (after several delays in Dallas for my connecting flight). I'm kind of sick of interviews right now (3 in 5 days), but I'm done til January 5. It snowed for most of the interview day 😀
Overall I thought they had very impressive facilities...plus I like that you can use TTU's facilities (rec center, libraries, olympic swimming pool). Of course, I have the same complaints that most people have: isolation, likelihood of having to move for clinical years, board scores, etc.
Here's a gem from one of their students, when asked about the average board score: "A lot of us don't really worry about average board score...we just want to pass!" lol, well brutally honest I guess.
I also had a problem with the Dean's response to a similar question about USMLE: "Well, we do as well as any school in Texas..." Obviously BS, it's kind of insulting that he would say that, especially when the actual statistics are so accessible. Instead, I wish he had talked about things they are trying to do to improve (e.g. new curriculum). Speaking of curriculum, I like what they are trying to do, but when I asked the interviewers about it, they didn't seem so confident (or even aware) of the changes.
That's my synopsis...overall I came to realize that, though Tech will perhaps not be my top choice, I could enjoy my time there. Opinions? Was anybody else there yesterday?

Case in point: a friend of mine finished her TMDSAS application well before the August MCAT rush, but after a couple of months she did not get the interview response she wanted. So, literally 3 days before the Nov 1st TMDSAS deadline, she had another letter of rec sent from her volunteer supervisor (who had not sent one previously). In the next two weeks she got 4 interviews - even at places that people with more impressive scores didn't.
Now, it COULD be a coincidence, but many schools admit that whenever new info comes in about an applicant, they open up the person's file (often for reconsideration).
So, while the schools are almost finished interviewing this year, it is more impressive for an applicant/ interviewee to have someone else tell a particular medical school how they are the number one choice (and honestly, it helps if the writer is well known OR they can cogently say why this applicant is superior to others).
I've known people who had a LOI sent to a place right before they interviewed there, so it would increase their chances of getting into the initial acceptance pile (many, if not all, "accept" about 1/2 of their interviewees).
