Texas Tech

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Most of the P3 and P4 classes are pre-recorded and they are online. Because during your P3 and P4 year you are doing 2 six week rotations and a few required classes and electives. Your P3 year will be the most busy work and then it relaxes a little during the last year. Texas Tech loves to make online classes, I believe that is the only choice because the faculty is divided between 4 cities.

But yeah you will be with your classmates all day for the P1 & P2 years, except for labs. So don't make any enemies cause you'll sit next to them everyday. 🙂

Sorry, I'm going to have to chime into this comment. P4 year is not made up of didactic classes at all. P4 year is solely rotations and there are 2 in the summer, 3 in fall and 3 in spring. P3 year you have both clerkship (rotation) and didactic classes. For P3 fall you have 2 rotations and 2 in the spring.

Actually the online classes had nothing to do with faculty being divided into different cities. My class was the first class (started this past fall) to have the videos and a lot of it had to do with Dallas students having to drive sometimes as much as 45 min-1hr to get to campus from rotations. Videos allow us not to have to be on campus on at least MW and then we have case studies days where we are required to be on campus on TTH. Depending on what electives you take you may have to be there on Fridays. We are given the opportunity to have contact time with the profs on Fridays during discussion sessions and it's done via healthnet (essentially the prof is transmitted to each campus via a satellite of some sort).
P3 is definitely the hardest year, b/c you have to manage your time btwn rotations and classes. P4 is apparently the easiest (you only have to worry about 1 thing, rotation).
If you have any specific questions about Dallas campus, or P3 year in general feel free to ask me.

After being amused by some of the immature and bitter interview feedback left in years past for Tech, I decided to check in and see the latest and greatest entries for this spring...

Did anyone see the one posted yesterday? It mentions an interviewer asking someone to diagram out the circulatory system of the heart and asking about the concepts of current courses the person is taking. I thought I remembered reading somewhere on TTUHSC.edu or in the interview invitation letter that pre-phr coursework related questions would not appear in the tests, group exercise, or the interview.

Assuming that the person isn't making it up, has anyone else heard of this type of questioning before?

that's news to me as far as the interview is concerned. but I have only been involved with one interview day, so I can't really speak for whether or not that's true

I was stunned by that interview feedback. I guess I was fortunate that my interview was very laid back. In fact, it seemed like the faculty member preferred to let the student run the interview process. Also, if this means anything, I checked Tech's website and there is a professor wang there.

On my interview day, everyone else seemed to feel like the interview was more conversational than anything and that we had stressed about it way too much.

Also, this is off the subject but when is the latest you can start on the Hep. B shots. I already got my first shot about three weeks ago but I'm just concerned for my friend who is waiting on an interview invite from Tech. Should he go ahead and get the Hep B now? Martin and Tim, you guys got your acceptance later during the year.... did you guys have your third and last series of Hep B shots by the time school started? Thanks.

dr. wang is without a doubt the hardest professor i've had in my career (and he only lectured for part of one immunology test). If the person that posted that feedback reads this, they should seriously call and complain. that sounds very inappropriate to me.

i had my hep B done already before i applied so it was a non-issue for me.

is it easy to find a house to rent out in amarillo? im thinking about getting a house v. an apartment. anyone have any ideas on how much rent would be?

WooHoo!!! Got an interview for 4/13!!!

I wonder how many slots are left? 😕

Do any of you P1's know how many interviews were granted last year or this year?

I have couple of questions for those of you who are doing p3 and p4 in dallas campus. i was reading through Tech's handbook and it only says that students do their rotations at VA hospital. other than VA, where else do you all do your rotations at? is there a lot of different choices as to where you could do it at? thanks for your reply

I have no idea about the number of interviews, but I would tell you not to worry too much about the late interview. mbishop and I both interviewed on the last day and got in without a hitch.

you'll be fine, good luck, have fun waiting 😉

my sister is doing her radiology residency at southwestern and tours the hospitals around there. she says she sees tech pharmacy students all the time. So i'd assume both parkland and the VA are hospital rotation spots, maybe baylor too.

my understanding on P3 and P4 year is brief, but i hope this gives you some insight.

Hey, I just interviewed yesterday. There will be less than 300 interviews performed by the last interview date. Are you interviewing anywhere else?

I applied to two schools, Tech and Texas A&M and I interviewed at A&M this past Friday. So less than 300 interviews and approximately 130 slots, right? 90 in Amarillo and 40 in Abilene?

How did your interview go? Any advice?🙂

i'll be conducting interviews again tomorrow (as well as taking part in the student Q&A at the end of the day).

are there any people interviewing tomorrow?

I will be there 4/13 too? I have my interview with A&M this Thursday. How did you do at Kingsville? What were your after thoughts? Any advice greatly appreciated? Thanks.

I think it went quite well. Make sure you read up on the interview tips on their website. Most of the questions were straight from the list.

You'll have an introduction, 20 minute essay, and a half hour interview with a 3 member panel. Overall, you'll be there about 2 hours total. If you review the sample questions and know why you're there, you'll do great. Just be yourself and relax, it really is an enjoyable experience. 🙂

Is there a dress code for class? At the A&M interview they stated they have a dress code for classes there. I hope thats not the case here at Tech.

if by dress code you mean, whatever you manage to throw on before you rush to school... then yes

if you mean an actualy dress code, no. yeah, if there was an actual dress code... I'm pretty sure I would have waited to hear back from other schools first

Really? A dress code? I would assume it wouldn't be too strict...? Just no unnatural hair colors and such. I wouldn't think they'd be measuring with a ruler for the shorts no higher than 3.5" above the knee cap (a teacher at my high school *ACTUALLY DID DO THAT!*) or require men to wear sweater vests and turtlenecks and ladies to wear ankle-length dresses. I hope not, anyhow...

since this is a professional program you could argue that the candidates should look professional most of the time.

i would not argue this.

you will however have to wear certain clothes during boot camp and during lab (for some reason).

Seems like a reasonable argument to me. I don't plan on (nor would I ever want to) wear tattered Abercrombie and Fitch Beach Rescue Squad outfits. I don't consider myself a lifeguard like many of my current classmates do😀.

some schools require a shirt and tie everyday. I would probably use the tie to hang myself if that were the case. I don't mind dressing up and I like to look nice, but study/sleep habits would have to change drastically for me to have the time to dress like that every day. plus my wife would get tired of ironing my shirts, but she'd keep doing it because she knows that I suck at ironing and she wouldn't want people to think that she can't iron either

but yeah, you'll have to look nice the first 2 weeks "boot camp" but after that you can look as slobbish as you please, I'm looking aorund class right now.... definitely some slobs in here... like the guy sitting to my left... aka, the guy that posted above me...

just kidding, but seriously, get a hair cut eh? just kidding, but seriously, have you seen Austin's DL picture? it's awesome, but now I"m getting off track.

Sorry for the late response. My interview went well. I shouldn't have been overly stressed for it.

I am not interviewing anywhere else. I didn't apply anywhere else.

Good luck !

👍

Thanks for the response, I'm a T-shirt & jeans, kind of guy and I too would probably hang my self if I had to wear a tie every day.

I had to work in slacks, a dress shirt and tie every single day @ Fry's Electronics when I worked on the sale's floor. It didn't make a bit of sense to me since people unpackaging stuff in the back (out of customers' eyesight) had to wear the same. I got used to it, but I would not want to attend class in the same attire if not required to.

But after all, at most pharmacies I've seen, the pharmacists wear a dress shirt and tie underneath their lab coats.

At work (CVS) I wear a shirt and tie and stuff, and that's fine, because I only work a day or two a week (about 10-15 hours). if I had to do it all day everyday... forget it, wouldn't happen (at school I mean, of course I'll dress like that for work one day too)

I work at CVS as well. How do you like it? Are you always short staffed?

Anyone know when they update your online application after the interview? Wonderin' when I'll have an idea of whether or not I got in

Hey Guys:

I am one of those real patient people. But during the interview we were given the impression that late this month we will would hear something about the committee's decision.

I noticed a whole bunch of people celebrating their spots for 2011 graduation. Were you guys were in the early interview sessions and who may I ask got accepted if any from the Feb 23 session? This will help me sleep without taking an Ambien

I like it a lot.... at my store. Because my store is virtually brand new and we're not super busy like the other stores in town. And I really like our employees, pharmcists, etc.

The store on Bell street is awful, I worked there over Christmas for a couple weeks and the staff (pharmcists, who are awesome, excluded) totally suck. I'm worried I won't get my store this summer as an intern, but I'm holding out hope.

To answer the question you may ask after reading this, there are 4 CVS's in amarillo, mine is the only CVS CVS, the other 3 are bought out Eckerds. If you ask to get transfered, ask for store 1543.

To answer the rest of your question, we aren't usually short staffed, but I know some of the other stores (Bell street the most) often are.

1143 days until graduation!

If you don't get in the first time the admissions committee meets, then you will be reviewed the next time because they do rolling admissions. The thing is you don't know exactly when the committee meets or when they will meet next. The office might be able to tell you what you can expect though.
Good luck! :luck:

Be sure to check your online application status. I found out I was accepted online before I received my acceptance letter. Good luck!

Hello. I interviewed on the 3/19 and we were told that admissions for TTUSOP will meet next week for those who interviewed from the 19th through the 23rd. I am waiting myself.

They met last wednesday for those who interviewed before the 19th.

Hope this helps.

if that's the case, you should know sometime next week

however, we have spring break next week, so I don't know if that will affect the timing

Hope it comes true as have many genuine exchanges on this board and when they invite us they know the caliber..just human nature... but I feel better given what you guys say.

I have not called Linda or Mike but I think I may do so now...Round #2 for my shots is tomorrow. Believe me this process will remain a life's experience

Thax...this is truly a professional board...and that too before graduation??

i bet <enter faculty/staff name here> will be trashed by sundown friday

MBishop ... Not at all.. I have been through this ... and as a former faculty in the med school I can relate to various mood swings caused by the waiting game that a lot may feel. The field gets competitive every year and often times committees may resort to subjective means as tie-breaking tools. Guys 80s and 90s are common pcat scores so we know how talented the applicants are.

Is paper rock scissors one of those subjective tie breaking tools?

like that show my big fat obnoxious boss where to see who was kicked off the show ended up being a chimpanzee that turned a wheel and whomever's name it landed on got to stay and the other got the boot.
