I'm reading varying opinions regarding whether or not to send a thank you email or written note to the person(s) who we interviewed with. Some say it may even annoy or bother them if we send one.

My view is that it's just a common courtesy and I pretty much know it does not make a difference regarding whether or not you get an acceptance offer.

Some also have said that in the note, we should write something about the school that impressed us and also something specific to the interview so they will remember who we are. I tend to think I'd just send a short, few sentence thank you and leave it at that.

So, what is your opinion on them?

Can someone post an example of what they sent (in general), if they did send them? Thanks in advance!

Agreed, just write something that is enough to show your enthusiasm for the school. No need to make it harder than it needs to be.

i just send in physical letters to the overall committee and mention the interviewers also.

What happens if you don't send a thank you email or not at all?! Is your application shredded? ARE YOU INSTANTLY DENIED?
Serious question though, I've only sent out 1 thank you email out of a couple of interviews, and I only did it because I had something to actually show the interviewer. It seems like a thank you email is the norm and I've completely missed that train.

I honestly doubt it makes much of a difference (other than causing the person who interviewed you to feel that it's a nice gesture). My only interview has been at Western so far, and the doctor who interviewed me was typing in notes, etc. as we talked and as I responded to his questions. I'll bet he submitted it pretty shorty after my interview with his recommendation (to offer an admittance or not). I did send a short thank you email a few days after my interview just because I felt it was courteous to do so and I sincerely wanted to thank him (he made the interview a very relaxed and pleasant experience for me).

thank you notes are not the norm and not sending one does not affect your application one bit
