After a prof writes a letter of rec, how do you thank them? a nice little message in e-mail? A thank you card?

And, what do you suggest should be written? Should it just be a brief thank you and that I appreciate them writing it for me?

Thanks so much

I would go with a card--it's more personal.

When I sent thank yous to my recommenders, I thanked them not only for writing the recommendation but for whatever it was that I thought made them great. For example, I had a prof who was the hardest teacher I ever had. He really taught me to work. So I thanked him for giving me some discipline and for the recommendation letter.

Thank yous don't have to be long--3-4 sentences--but they definitely need to be personal.

Good luck!

I sent mine thank you cards via snail mail. You could send them one of those e-greeting thank you cards too.
