Hello Everyone,

I decided to start a thread for all of us April 18 MCATers. Please feel free to share in your thought, success and frustrations throughout this process here!

All the best!
Good LUCK to all of us! 😉

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. I feel that universities would be more than willing to overlook a bad MCAT score if you retook it and got a good score. There are plenty of reasonable causes for a poor score other than just not being smart enough/cut out for medicine.

Well first off, the MCAT sais NOTHING about how cut out you are for medicine, but rather if you will succeed in med school. It also serves to limit the applicant pool. You are right, if you get a 20 the first time and something like a 35 the second time then most med schools will probably attribute it to "factors that beyond a reasonable doubt altered your performance and were completely outside of your control. sick. pregnant, depressed. w/e" But when reviewing hundreds of applications, the admissions committee will be hungry for any weak link that will mean not calling you for an interview. They will pick the person that has a 30 over the person that has a 25 and a 30, providing that it comes down to those two people and that those two people have comperable ECs.-maybe i did generalize a bit.

Maybe I'm misinformed on this, but from the conferences I've been to, the speakers always make it seem that they want to see minimum numbers to establish a pool of applicants, and from there they are trying to find the applicants they like rather than weed out the ones they don't. I got the impression that your MCAT score and GPA could land you into the pool for consideration, but it was the extracurrics that influenced who made the cut.

^actually numbers are a much bigger part than just "who makes it into the considered pool"

You're right about the minimum numbers. But alas that is the weed out process. GPA and MCAT scores determine whether or not the rest of the application is read in most cases. If these numbers are not satisfying ECs may never be seen and you wont be considered. After the numbers, its all about the ECs.(and other things, research, tutoring ect.)

True, but the GPA and MCAT cutoffs aren't always as high as you might think. In some cases, your ECs and personal statement can save you.👍

not even half way to score release yet...seems like the longer this takes, the wider my expected score margin becomes. im going with a 10 pt. spread at this point.

Well, it's been two weeks now. It's the quiet before the storm in this thread. Next week it'll be pretty dead, but the week after we're gonna hit 20 pages. Keep busy everybody.

Good thing too, between the neurosis and my final exams coming up, it's probably best that it's dead for awhile! lol

I had an MCAT dream a few nights ago. It was pretty sucky. I dreamt that I got my scores back and got a 15PS, 15BS, and a 6VR... so I had to retake it despite doing amazingly well on the science sections.

Have you guys noticed that when not a lot of people take a test on a particular day, the scores are usually really low?

The 3/28 test day: a huge number of students took it on that day and the scores that came back were all generally pretty high.

I'm kinda scared.

No I haven't noticed that... however that seems sort of silly. I seriously doubt there is any correlation whatsoever between the activity on the SDN boards the MCAT scores. I really wouldn't worry about it.

It's really only the people who do well that post their scores. It's not like all the people who seriously screwed it up here will post their scores.

The curves and scales, as far as I know, are predetermined. Much like the AAMC scaling.

Then why do we have to wait so frickin' long?

^What he said. It's awful. I just want the scores now! But at least we know it will be fair (hopefully) and we won't be judged against each other.

Because they like to make us wait in agony.

It may also have to do with the essay/small tweaks to the scoring/investigating instances of possible cheating.

What I want to know is how the heck to people cheat on the MCAT? That's crazy. There's no way in &%*( that I would ever even *think* about cheating on that beast!

Yeah, I really don't know how people can possibly cheat on the MCAT.

Going in and out, you need fingerprinting. Each cubicle is surrounded side by side. And oh yeah, they have more cameras than a freaking pharmacy.

Let's hope the 4/4'ers get their scores soon.

Any score predictions?

I really have no idea what I'll get because I only took one full length AAMC...But my bf promised that he would take me to Florida if I got above a 35 so that's what I'm hoping for! Disney World here I come (pleease?!)

I really don't want to give a prediction... I'm afraid I'll jinx it.

My AAMC average was a 37 (I took all the AAMC tests)... I'd be REALLY happy with a 36+, but I will be quite content with a 34+. I'm worried the most about my PS... but normally the one I worry the most about I do the best on (at least with the AAMC practices), so I guess I should be concerned about any nasty surprises with VR and BS.

At least we're up next, guys. And the past two score releases came out a day early. May 18th, come soon!

I feel so GOOD ABOUT BIO and SO GOOD ABOUT PHYSICS!!! and SSOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD about VR. i really hope i get A 9

MAYBE EVEN AN 8 AHHHHHHHH:scared:

First 45 in a lonnnnnng while is comin' out of this thread.

...I can feel it. ;D

For the record, it's certainly not me, lol

this is me to a T. 12,9,12 would be heavenly. 9 verbal would be amazing (based on how i felt after the test).

i need these scores.

But if you do, PM me. I seriously screwed it up twice, and on try number 3, I hit it big. *Praise Jesus*

Retakes aren't the end of the world. Even I got into med school 🙂

I so seriously want my score. It was off my mind for about a week, but now I'm thinking about it again. And I'm like give it to me now!

Since I just finished my finals, I really have NOTHING to do to occupy my time. The wait just gets worse...

So I've had to download tons of stand-up comedy to get myself laughing and thinking about other things.

Ugh I hear ya. I finished my finals Tuesday and now have to stick around til Sunday for graduation. I've run out of food (and money) and have nothing to do! 🙁 I would rather be studying for the MCAT, and I never thought I would say that!

Haha, I hear that. What specials (I could use some new ones), I watched Chapelle and Cedric the Entertainer's HBO shows a couple nights ago.

I'm hoping for a day early release. Not that it makes THAT much of a difference...

The last couple tests have released a day early, so it's likely ours will too.

I hear ya. Only recently has it come back to the front of my mind. Why oh why did I not bring back my guitar hero to school so I can forget about things like MCATs and finals...
