The Epic Boondoggle Many Predicted?

I expect that the number of uninsured will actually go up. My step daughter is a teller at a bank; next year they are dropping coverage for their employees.

In the end, obamacare will be.about what most government programs are about...increasing power and control.

This.

I hear the phrase "I used to have insurance, then Obamacare....." a lot these days.

How is this possible? Open enrollment hasn't even started yet. Anyone who is saying that a lack of insurance prior to June 2013 is due to Obamacare is likely using a scapegoat.

Keep in mind all of the other completely unbelievable things you're told ("my doctor said the Pediatric Gastroenterologist would meet me in the ER!" "I just slipped in the shower, and it ended up there!") as you're considering the veracity of such statements.

To clarify: I have no doubt that patients are using the ACA to explain away their lack of insurance or that employers are doing the same to excuse lay-offs, it's just that I'm not buying it.

Dunno, man - seems legit if you're an employee of a company that figures "well, its just not worth it anymore", and open enrollment for your plan is on the come-round.

I see that side of it, the employee's gripe is legit. However I call shenanigans on the employers who started the cutbacks as soon as Obama was reelected. In such cases I think companies were often just using Obamacare as a scapegoat to make cuts they would have done anyway.

I have an uncle who sells insurance and he's taken a beating because prices have risen substantially for policies and many of his clients have been priced out of the market. The insurance companies said it was concern over Obamacare eviscerating their profit margin but that's probably just one of the factors. Certainly the temporal trend isn't towards a healthier nation (hell, most of my hockey team is on at least one med) and even spreading the cost more widely will only do so much to keep premiums down.
