I hate the baseball writers. Elect Mattingly to the Hall already. And I dont' want to hear BS about lack of a World Series. So someone can bat .700 and hit 400 home runs for his career but not make the hall if he plays on a mediocre team?

I have a horrible cold. And I'm on-call tomorrow.

The new Dodge Challenger looks awesome.

Can't wait for it to come out. That'll be my attending physician/graduated residency present to myself. Pistol grip shifter, 6.1L HEMI....man oh man.

Almost as pretty as my Toyota Matrix!

Ah, but the Starsky & Hutch car was a '74 Ford Gran Torino. I'm much more of a mopar guy (Mopar, for those that don't know, is another word for Chrysler products). Therefore, I've been a bigger fan of The Dukes and their '68 Charger and especially Daisy's ORIGINAL car, her 1972 Road Runner. I had a very similar banana yellow 72' Road Runner myself years ago that I restored.

I had said years ago that if Chrysler or Ford wanted to make a fortune, that they should re-release a retro version of the classic Mustang, Barracuda, Challenger, or Charger. The new Charger, to me, was somewhat disappointing, with its 4 doors and general looks. The new Camaro, even though I'm not a GM fan, looks pretty nice, but the updated Challenger looks great. A definite tribute to the original Challenger.

Of course the Challenger, produced by Dodge, was meant to compete in-house with also-Chrysler-owned Plymouth's Barracuda, just as the Demon was to compete with the Duster, the Super Bee with the Road Runner, etc. While these cars were more or less clones of each other, the Challenger set itself apart as s quite different looking vehicle from the 'Cuda or Road Runner.

For those of you still reading, I commend you.

When I graduate residency and get a place out of the city, I plan on having an old car collection again. When I was younger, I restored a '73 Karmann Ghia convertible, '67 Mustang, '85 IROC, '72 Road Runner, and '85 RX-7. Those were the days.

85 IROC's are for trailer..... people that sell drugs with big gold chains hanging around their necks. Don't make me have this picture of you in my head sazi  So are RX-7s :barf:

Now, I'll take that barracuda, but nothing compares to the 65 GTO or 67 Camino, or perhaps the 63 split window corvette - all that I restored with my dad  :p

JEALOUS? yeah I know you are

I love warranty.

Touregs are very nice...wowowow :wow:

Had a '73 Charger in high school. It was the kind of American car that made the Japanese car industry what it is today...

After 1973, the muscle car market died a quick death. US emissions regulations singlehandedly destryoed net horsepower. It didn't help that the 70's funk style permeated the auto market, creating incredibly underpowered cars that were bad on gas mileage and looked like crap to boot.

Yeah, I wasn't a big fan of the IROC. I only had it a short time. It had a 350 and was reasonably fast, but I just wanted to try my hand at one, and I was suddenly in-between cars after I smoked the free former police car given to me...long story. The IROC was too cheap to pass up and it sort of fell in my lap. I commuted to NJ with it while I took both semesters of organic chem with lab in one summer. Man that sucked.

Anyway, don't diss my RX-7 with the Wankel rotary engine. That thing was cool, and sounded even cooler. I was intrigued by the Otto cycle mechanics of the engine and it's lack of traditional piston reliant combustion. If I had the money, I'd consider an RX-8. Those are sweet machines.

I, too, like GTOs and the split window vette, though not as much as the MOPARS by a longshot.

'67 Camino? Talk about trailer trash!
Did you have a spare engine for it hanging from the tree in the front yard?

Oh I'm not the one making up reasons for why I had the fricking trailer IROC now am I? And, I'll have you know that a 67 mint camino, long bed SS with all original interior is worth more than your house brada -so don't even try it with me :p ;)

And RX-7's in Hawaii are the ultimate in trash - theres only one kind of person that drives those (which shall remain unamed) but lets just say, TRIPLE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES and we'll all know what I'm talking about now won't we. You know you had triples on there and lemme guess.. .it was for more efficient "window wiping" right? At those intense speeds you'd bring it to huh? :p

I laughed out loud when I read about the triple blades. You should know me by now...I'm a purist. The car was brought to original and keep in mind. I didn't have it in the 80's, I had it very recently. So, it's more of a soon-to-be-classic than when it was pimped out in the 80's by the douche crew.

The Wankel rotaries, now that they're old, have a habit of building up lots of carbon residue in the combustion chamber. I had read in an RX-7 mechanics book that you can pour a quart of oil into the carburetor and that this would essentially remove the residue. They also mentioned that it would create a lot of smoky exhaust while the oil burned off. What they didn't tell you was that I covered the town of Oyster Bay in a cloud of dark gray smoke that spread out over the Long Island Sound like a nuclear device had gone off. I was so embarrassed I hid in my house.

The car did run better later, though. I eventually sold it to a guy in Puerto Rico, sight unseen, who had it shipped overseas to his place.

  You liked my triple windshield blades huh? You can't have them anyway, and no purist I know would own an Rx7   EVER!!!

Sounds like you have some very negative countertransference toward the RX-7. Perhaps one was owned by a significant other in a failed relationship?

When do you guys put in your rank list?

lol, my negative transferance IS for good reason - i dated this guy and he was cheaper than dirt, and he was like, oh let me pick you up in my fancy car, blah blah, so I was like, ok. We btw, had intentions of going to this really cool club/party (THAT REQUIRED VALET OK?) so I'm waiting, and he had passed me twice since there was NO WAY I thought he could own that "souped" up RX7 that kept driving by my house, afterall he did say "really nice car" (and this is like a business owner ya know? not some schmuck!) Well, low and behold, doesnt the door fly open and he's in that car? ARGHHH  We get to the party, all is fine, I got over the embarrassment of the RX7 and we order, I get some shrimp, etc etc, and when the bill comes, doesn't he say "Jeez, it costs 7.00 for a small plate of shrimp?"   "Thats a pretty expensive FIRST DATE" :scared:

I then had to get BACK INTO the terrible triple bladed Rx7, drive home, at speeds I didn't even know existed were possible for those cars, needless to say, I now have a seriously negative conotation that goes along with those cars... GRRRR

Whoa, Sazi--GOOD CALL!
It takes a heck of a therapist to pull out this kind of repressed emotion!

I have expensive tastes in cars. I learned to drive in an 8 year old BMW 318. That was a cool little car. Then after my bonehead brother wrecked it, I got another used beemer, this time a 325i. Had that for years. Finally got rid of it when it was 15 years old. Still ran pretty good, but it needed new rear rotors and was going to cost more than the value of the car. So we sold it to a guy who likes to fix up old cars, and now I have another used beemer, another 325i. Used beemers are actually a pretty good deal. My current one cost the same as my husband's Honda Prelude cost new, and it was only 2 years old. This one is my favorite to date - very smooth but it's got a helluva lot of pickup. I love taking it out on I-71 early in the morning when there's no traffic. Zoom zoom :)

But now I'm totally spoiled. Although I don't mind driving my husband's Honda (except that I can't see out of the back of it because of his stupid spoiler that he just had to have, I hate driving American cars. When I went home to visit my parents for xmas, I had to drive their Chevy Impala to Texas for some interviews. Damn thing would barely go above 70. And don't get me started on the crappy steering. My mom's mustang* is ok, but I like my beemer better.

*Actually the mustang - a red GT - belongs to my 88 year old grandmother, but she has glaucoma and can't drive it anymore. She has always had a mustang since they came out in the 60s. Too bad she doesn't still have one of the old ones. And my other grandmother had a white corvette stingray when she died. Yeah, the grandparents were pretty cool. Based on my parents' cars, the coolness seems to have skipped a generation. ;)

(This link may only illustrate my point today, January 15, 2006)

Oh, don't get me wrong, I LOVE minivans, I'm just too cool to drive one :p ;)

In all seriousness, if I wasn't upside down in this trailblazer I would definitely get one, it would be so much easier than getting her in and out of that height!!!

Plus, minis have WAYYYY more space, a precious commodity when the little ones come along ;)

No minivan for me. No SUV either. When I have kids, they will just have to travel light. It's not so much the coolness factor as the green factor. After all of my ranting about fuel efficiency and the oil economy, I'd have to eat a lot of my words if I ever bought one of those things.

I don't own either -- too poor! But when I start getting that phat resident salary, I'm going all out. Perhaps a Ford Escort WAGON! Talk about "styling".

A while back, someone posted a link to these guys regarding their love of the class action lawsuit against the drug companies and the medical community.

Well, it seems they have a new spokesperson on their TV commercials. William Shatner.

I have GOT to start going to bed earlier.

Yeah, that was me....

Shatner, eh? Why am I not surprised? Someone should sue him for those ridiculously horrible albums he produced.

Maybe his tagline should be "I'm not a lawyer but I play one on TV...."

Or "To... boldly sue... someone... that... no one... has... sued... before."

Damn, I wish someone would pay $25K for one of MY many kidney stones. I'd start drinking some tea immediately!

William Shatner amuses he. He was hilarious in Showtime and Invasion Iowa.

I need to vent.

So my husbands car has broken down and we can't afford a new one. We need to get a better one than the 500$ hoopties we've been purchasing (#3 in 2 years time) So we now have to dish out about 3K. We found out he has outstanding tickets - that come up to da da da 427$ So we had to pay that. We have spent about 6K on interviews, and I still have a second look coming up. My sitter costs 160$/wk and I have to leave my ragamuffin in a week to start back up with clerkships. :( WHAT IS GOING ON? WHY DOES MEDICAL SCHOOL AND LIFE COST SO MUCH MONEY??

Please, PLEASE someone tell me that one day, just ONE day I will look back on all this and laugh. Ahhhhh, and on gen res, they are saying 100K is peanuts to boot. Its amazing what those that 'have' say without even knowing what its like to be one of those 'without'

Sorry for venting here, its just such drama I'm wondering why Murphy's law is always hitting me so hard :(

Anyone else care to vent?

I ran into a similar problem with the car recently. In residency, you'll draw a positive income, rather than simply accumulating expenditures. Life will get better for you soon. For the first time in a while, you'll actually be paid for your work.

Problem is Sazi, I've been supplementing hubby's income with loans (like 26K) a year and although I have plenty saved, its still coming outta our savings at a rapid rate ya know? It seems like we keep draining when I was hoping to have a positive balance from the loan money - I mean so its like having two incomes right now essentially - just I get two big checks and he gets weekly's. Im' wondering if we're just extravagant or what. I don't seem to think I spend a lot of money though!!!!! maybe I do?~ Food and gas in Jersey is crazy - and that damn bridge, and oyyy the TAXES ugg, and insurance, and oh lest I forget UTILITIES, excuse me I need to go kill myself  :scared:

That avatar is expensive though - i'll tell you what!

What happened to the car? your car i mean
