for all u MSUCOMers I think you should look into what your dean has been saying at AOA conferences the past few years....
in 5 years I'd expect OUCOM to be considered the best DO school in the nation.
msucom, umdnj, ouhcom >> tcom. TCOM is good, just not in the same class as these 3 imo.
TCOM had over 40 million research dollars last year, more than many allo schools, has ties with a number of quality hospitals, is about the only osteo school to be US News ranked, has the lowest tuition in the country, and always puts out one of the best osteo match lists every year (also has the highest percentage of AGME matches). It may be the flagship osteopathic school...
I think there are like 3 or 4 DO schools on par with MD.
MSUCOM (the best)
OUCOM (a bit less so, but great if you stay in Ohio)
CCOM (lots of hospitals and they have 83 percent first choice match rate)
Maybe DMU or Pcom
These schools seem to be very respected and have hospital connections on par with MD schools
whoa...you can't forget about TCOM. It's highly respected in TX and alot of their students go the ACGME route instead of AOA.

Lots of people miss TCOM's reputation. I think TCOM to be on par with many MD schools easily. In Texas they pretty much have the same avg GPA/MCAT as the other schools except UTSW and Baylor..They secure pretty good residencies every year, have lots of money, research, cheap, awesome rotation sites (close to one of meccas of healthcare -Houston and other flagship programs (UTSW) etc...pretty respectable. I think of TCOM as top five or better.
I personally would rank TCOM and ATSU-SOMA (just because I can definitely related to the CHC thing they have going on)
DRMediterranean:
I think you miss the obvious, many TCOM students prefer ACGME matches because they can actually get into them, not because of lack of AOA residency spots. I mean, not that matching AOA is bad, but ACGME is just more competitive. In support of my point is that inside sources (maybe you can even find it online) is the fact that the avg USMLE 1 is on par with ALL TX schools and better than many out-of-state MD programs. Also look up COMLEX mean scores for TCOM online and see what you find -let me summarize it for you: #1 nationally. I believe TCOM is on par, hands down, with the other schools you mentioned. And I mean hands down.
👍 well said.TCOM is an MD school that awards the DO degree. In Texas it is pretty much considered on par with most of the medical schools and the programs in Texas are pretty kind to them, so there simply is no incentive to not match ACGME.

All the DO schools (less RVU, since for profit seems to overshadow medicine itself) are worthwhile. The best DO school is the one YOU like/feel best at. The end!
KCUMB Class of 2016
😴I have no idea why this thread is even a topic of discussion. DO schools as a whole are not respected, who cares who is the most respected out of the least respected? Seriously, and this is coming from a DO student.

Somehow, I am not surprised that those talking smack are pre-med and thus have no clue.
I say again, wait until you guys are actually DO students and are applying for away rotations/residency and realize the full extent of how screwed DOs are in general. Some places require extra tuition out of us for away rotations, others only take an x number of DO students, still others just won't even accept DO students. Then, does it really f'ing matter if you went to what you perceive to be a "respected" DO school?
Talk to me in a couple of years, otherwise, continue to debate what you perceive to be respected DO schools.

Nice attempt at a personal attack mate. My board scores are excellent, my class rank excellent, it does not take much to search my history to figure it out, but if you are curious here are my stats to show your assumptions are ridiculous. USMLE 250 COMLEX 732 Class rank 3/75. My concern is not for myself.
Also, you would be wise to listen to those who are further along the path than you. You can choose to believe whatever the hell you want to, I could care less, but do not claim you were not forewarned.
Actually, can i tell you what school I have been more impressed with the more and more I keep reading about them? LECOM.
Now, defininly not close to MD caliber as only a couple DO schools IMO can really be compared to MD schools, but le com has impressed me with their resources. Many sites in many different areas.
Of course, when you have three campuses, u should be able to provide support like that.
And OSUCOM maybe, tho I am less inclined to think so. Honestly I don't know much about TCOM. Texas schools have tiger own thing going on.
Like I said before, no ones knows what a debusk is. Everyone has heard of MSU or OU. We need more state DO schools that can provide students resources, not these private ones.
Are you at RVU?
Truth, but also learning that my experience is not just applicable to me. So, yes generalizing, but also im not far off from the truth.
He's the DO student at PNWU who had a nurse/CRNA as a preceptor on his surgery rotation. He reported it to the allo forum in this famous post. It sounds like he is regretting his DO school choice and generalizing his frustration to include all DO schools.
DO students not being allowed in the hospital for deliveries during their OB/GYN rotation....Word to the wise, look into the quality of the clinical rotations, the first 2 years are generally the same everywhere, its the clinical rotations that really matter.
I've never heard of any of this.....geez.....
Apparently there was competition between schools for access to the hospital. Look into this **** before you matriculate, not just the generic pre-med questions of "how many students per cadaver" in anatomy lab, that kind of thing doesnt bloody matter. You don't want to be 400k in debt and realize you got screwed along the way.

The lesson is. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!! Its ur future so make sure u are in the right situation to succeed.

Truth, but also know which questions to ask. Research this as it is a huge freakin deal and likely will cost you half a million in the end.
