Damn...who don't you judge? Perhaps you should consider a career change into law? I know two techs who have to work two jobs to support their families....how much free time do you think they have to shop for food/cook/do laundry/relax for a moment? This isn't back in the day where there was a sole bread winner who made enough to support a family of five while the wife picked up groceries and took care of the kids/food/house chores.

Most people who come into the pharmacy aren't there because they ate sushi n rice their whole life...because they never smoked in their life...or because they had protected sex their whole life (just for good measure)

I won't lie...when I got out of bootcamp I thought everyone was fat, and it disgusted me at the time...for like a week...

...but you know what that's called when you can "choose" to become fat?

Freedom.

That's the thing the US has over N.Korea...China...and all those other third world countries you mentioned.

Are you the gestapo? You want to ticket people for being fat? Maybe we should ticket people of certain religions...why don't we just start arresting anyone who believes in Allah...wouldn't we save some money on counter-terrorism? Sure...we'll arrest alot of good people...but we'll bag a few bad ones too...they all had a choice, right?

I assume you've read about what the US Government did to Japanese Americans during WWII?

Who are we to decide what is stupid for someone to do? Are they infringing on your freedom?

Should the government ban all highly saturated foods? We'll ban bacon...ice cream...alcohol...all the things some people say are stupid choices...it'll be awesome...like Demolition Man.

We can all have sex through cool ESP headsets...
LOL you seem to be taking my ticketing suggestion too seriously. It's kind of cute. I hope you do realize that I was expressing wishful thinking.... you know the kind of wishful thinking that men dream about, except their dreaming has to do with hot scantily clad women happily serving them beer or some crap. In my dream, obese people get tickets. And yes, I am the ticketing officer. I am also wearing a Met's #1 pointy foam finger which I use to poke the obese people with in their bellies. 🙂 I know every damn player is injured this year, but I still have hope. 🙄

Who am I to decide what is stupid? Hmmm... stuffing your face until you look like the McDonald's boobs man above is stupid. No? Is that smart? Losing your ability to walk, run, climb stairs at normal speed, that's smart?

Yes, we have the freedom to do anything in America, but anyone, not just myself, can judge whether or not a certain action of liberty is stupid. I brought up North Korea because some people, namely you, blamed obesity on America's poverty and lack of choice that Americans have. But clearly even you agree that Americans have a choice to get obese, unlike the truly poor people in NK and 3rd World Countries.

Oh, and yes, obese people are infringing on my rights. I know I only take up about 3/4 of a subway seat but that doesn't mean Fatty McFatterson can sit next to me and let his/her extra ass spread over the 1/4 of my seat. That's my empty personal space that I spent exercising and eating properly to enjoy during my commute. Fatty gets a ticket. :d

ALSO, who doesn't want to know what it's like to use seashells to wipe your butt?

Is this your justification for grown adults feeding small children McDonalds? If so, it is weak at best. If I worked 90 hours a week, for one, I wouldn't be so selfish to have children, and two, I still wouldn't feed them **** for sustenance.
Hooray! My first agreement with Priapism! (Or at least what I remember)

Uhhh, who do you think people feed Kid's Meals to?

Children wasn't my point though...I'm talking about the adults themselves....rushing to/from work...you're gonna do what is convenient and least demanding.

I'm not trying to make an excuse for people here...you can always limit your intake if you choose to...but I don't fault others for simply carrying out what our society has conditioned them to do.

And in regards to fast-food for kids...I had my share of Kids Meals ...Wendy's...Arby's...I'm not obese...I ate the hell out of some white castles...even at the tender age of 8...that **** is awesome...

I still wouldn't feed them **** for sustenance

Well then you sir are a better man than I. Can't say I wouldn't let my kids eat McD's.

ALSO, who doesn't want to know what it's like to use seashells to wipe your butt?

I just go by the live and let live mentality. I don't mind too much what other people do with themselves...as long as it doesn't affect me.

I never came up with the idea of poverty=poor nutrition. They did a story on it and I heard it on NPR. It's hard to deny it though...you go to an urban area where there are more liquor stores than grocers and the place u get food from most frequently is a convenience store...there aren't many choices..."hmm Spam or Vienna sausages today?" Would you go to the grocer if it meant a 2hr walk?

Of course, obesity has been a sign of wealth since...idk...thousands of years? Alot of the images of royalty from different cultures depict voluptuous women and hevaier men...it's kind of a no-brainer on that one...being the wealthiest nation in the world (for now) isn't it expected our society is somewhat obese?

Also, you can take a look at the immigrant populations in the US who undergo "acculturation"...I'm not so sure it's BS considering it was published by JAMA:

http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/292/23/2860

And now they think there's even "selective acculturation":

Determinants of Latina Obesity in the United States
http://tcn.sagepub.com/cgi/content/abstract/20/1/105

And just for a little balance here's some stuff from FOXNews alluding to the fact food stamps can lead to an increase in obesity compared cash subsidies:

"When we give poor families food stamps instead of cash, we know that they will consume 20 percent more food," Besharov said. "That might be great at a time of hunger and malnutrition, but at a time of obesity, that's a mistake."
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,75131,00.html

Reminds me of the Hispanic woman I rung up today with her food stamps...she was buying a half-gallon of ice cream (butter pecan, for herself I assume) and a big box of push-pops (for her kids).

Just think how cheap those calories were for her to buy....and how much more it would have cost her for some whole-grain bars of equivalent caloric content.

oh yeah...the three sea shells...but I think I'd have to go with cyber sex w/ Sandra Bullock😍

Would you go to the grocer if it meant a 2hr walk?
I would take a bus. But first of all, what kind of idiot buys a house with no grocery store nearby? I suppose the same sexy idiot who would allow their body to turn into Jaba. If all the nearby groceries in my area closed down, I would MOVE.

The reason I get worked up about obesity is because I think the human body is freakin awesome, adaptable, and you can turn it into a machine if you train it properly and take good care of it. It's probably the most expensive asset you will ever own in this lifetime and everybody gets one. And there are people who don't appreciate the value of their body (estimated around $2+million courtesy of humanforsale.com) I mean, the value of human health is a part of the reason why I am so interested in healthcare and pharmaceutics. And these idiots in America (rich ass country) are wasting themselves by eating burgers with feces rolled up inside (McD's and BK) without moderation. Live and let live, yes, but it's like how can one not react when they see someone pumping water into the gas tank of a Lamborghini... Seriously, how does your head not explode? Gaahh. When I see an obese person, I see someone driving a busted up Lamborghini, cracked side mirrors and all. What did you do??😱

it's kind of a no-brainer on that one...being the wealthiest nation in the world (for now) isn't it expected our society is somewhat obese?
True.http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,75131,00.html

Was this Hispanic woman also obese? Because this looks like a classic give-her-a-ticket moment. 🙂

LOL you totally sound like a marine right now. I have a couple of friends who are marines and I love how going to the beach with them means free admission! Hell to the yeaas.

So, I figure Brooke Shields is really hurting for money. I see her on about 3 different commercial marketing ads, one of which is Latisse. I hope someone warned her of possible brown iris pigmentation. :meanie:

LOL you totally sound like a Marine right now. I have a couple of friends who are Marines and I love how going to the beach with them means free admission! Hell to the yeaas.

Well I hope you compensated my bros!

I mean, Marines just don't take chicks to the beach out of the goodness of their hearts!

As of 5 minutes ago, I have officially paid down 2 of my 3 student loans...in slightly under one year. Rock.

You looked into deducting the interst at all? Pretty sure you could your first year of working...cuz u prolly would've been under the income cap😕

I'm out drinking with one of glycerin's classmates. She and her coresidents will be painting the town with us!

I may come if I can ditch my weird co-residents. None of them have been to Vegas and they are all REALLY EXCITED...to the point where I want to smack them.

Well I hope you compensated my bros!

I mean, Marines just don't take chicks to the beach out of the goodness of their hearts!
WOW. Compensation?? I hope you mean friendship. To me, that's almost insulting to one of my Marine friends who is a sergeant, I mean Sergeant, and he is one of the most noble dudes I know. First of all, the ratio of guys and girls is 2:1 in our pack. He doesn't do things for any of his friends for any compensation of any sort. He's such a cool guy, and I can't believe you would say that about your bros.... 😱 Please tell me, by "compensated," you meant with a beer saying thanks.

Hahahaha. Should we add you to our list, too?

Yes, I will obviously try to make it if I can pull away from the kids. Our program directors already told me that I will liekly need to baby sit them.

Are they from WV? 'Cause I get excited when I visit Cleveland, let alone Vegas.

They all so naive about moving to a big city...we already had one have her purse snatched and one had her GPS stolen from her car.

None from WV thought...NE, IA

Please tell me, by "compensated," you meant with a beer saying thanks.

Uhh, yeah...yeah, that's exactly what I meant...beer. What else would be on a man's mind at the beach, let alone a Marine who may have been overseas for a few months? Beer...of course.

I started the Rush Limbaugh diet yesterday (no Oxycontin jokes, please)...keeping fats to a minimum, eating veggies, complex carbs, and foods rich in lean protein (tuna, chicken breast, whey protein shakes), and keeping my daily caloric intake between 1000 and 1500 per day. Wish me luck.

Good Luck..I guess you'll be exercising while doing this?

Yeah, I did hardcore cardio (2-4 hrs a day, 4-5x per week) for about six months, and then I started weightlifting. I've been weightlifting for about a year now. I altered my diet a little bit during that time, but not enough to keep me from hitting a plateau. Ultimately, by the time I finish pharmacy school in 2013, I want to be 250 pounds or less, and be able to perform a 600 lb. deadlift, 550 lb. squat, and 400 lb. bench press. I've got the body type to be able to develop that kind of strength, I just have to work and stay dedicated and keep a regular workout/diet schedule and I'll get there.

cool. transforming one's body can be very rewarding

Ahhh...if you don't mind me asking, how tall are you? I'm guessing around 6' 2"?

Isn't Las Vegas going broke? Not that it's relevant to tourists but just curiously off-topic.

Ahhh...if you don't mind me asking, how tall are you? I'm guessing around 6' 2"?

6'3". As of May 13th, I weighed 302 lbs. Most of it's in my abdomen, thighs, and ass, though, so when I'm dressed, people always think I weigh a lot less.

cool. transforming one's body can be very rewarding

Especially when my two best friends already have done so. Even though should I succeed, I'm contemplating getting trained to be a wrestler in my spare time...seems more painful than rewarding.

WHAT??? How tall are you?!?! Jeeeez, you must be a giant.

Good luck on you diet! Don't for get your vitamins especially after workouts! 🙂 + po qd.

How long were you a Marine? I bet you're going to be a retail pharmacist... cus they work in the front-line of things. :d

I'm 6'3". I already said that though. Besides, height and strength are in no way correlated. I know people who are shorter than me who can lift more than me, and I know people who are taller than me who can't lift as much as me.

Oh man...don't give Rush that much credit! I did pretty much the same diet to get ready for Cancun back in HS. It was to get toned more so than put on mass.

Constant hydration...high-rep, low-weight sets...some non-processed carbs before workouts...lean protein after workout/before bed. I started out everyday with a nice bowl of Total Raisin Bran (I sound like a marketer) Seriously though, any cereal by Total is great to start the day...not only are you getting your metabolism kickin...but you basically just got 100% DV of alot of vitamins...since your heavier than the average guy you could prolly do a nice big bowl.

I'm sure you already know about the whole "many small meals vs one big one" concept to speed up your metabolism.

Other than that, take my advice...don't go ape**** with the Tuna. After about 8 weeks of eating tuna/chicken religiously I started to feel fatigued and developed this general feeling of malaise. Well, this was before alot of the info about mercury in tuna became mainstream in the media...it wasn't until a year or so later (I was only on the diet for 3 months) when I saw a special on PBS concerning mercury in standard grocery store bought tuna. Something like 1/20 cans of tuna had mercury levels that would put you over the WEEKLY quota for mercury ingestion!!! 😱 So yeah...

I'm also a firm believer in fat consumption. Unsaturated fat. Ice Cream...no. Peanuts/peanut butter...hell yeah! Don't listen to the media hype about no fats...that's the stupidest **** I ever heard...although I'm no dietician...there's a reason they have fats in TPN's...you can't eliminate sat fats...but u just want a decent ratio on unsat:sat

Just my opinion...but the results spoke for themselves

 peanut butta jeeeeelllie

You guys are talking about diets and that's not really that much fun. We should talk about food instead - I cooked an amazing vegetable ragout today and simmered it in white wine. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S !

It's kind of hard not to give Rush credit, since it was where I heard it from. If it makes you feel better, it was really the fact that my friend had phenomenal results from the same diet plan. So, credit to my friend JD if you really hate Rush that much.

The problem with a "nice big bowl" of anything is that it's real easy to triple (if not quadruple) your calories without even realizing it. I'm trying to minimize the food put into my body while still getting everything my body needs to properly function. To that end...it's eggs for breakfast every morning. I bought a bottle of GNC's Mega Men multivitamin today and will be using that as a primary source of vitamins/minerals.

I've read plenty of articles to know that fat is vital to the body. I've got fish oil and flaxseed oil capsules to handle the bulk of that. For the longest time, my problem was that I knew all of this stuff, I just never put it into practice. So now I'm utilizing all of my knowledge of what's quality food and what to eat to eat clean, and combining it with a calorie restriction. If it goes well, I'll post a pic or two on the forum. Which it should, because I tend to be immune to the whole "sick of the same food every day" thing. Attribute it to my high tolerance for monotony, I suppose. I could eat nothing but eggs, oatmeal, chicken breasts, tuna, whey protein, brown rice and veggies every day and never get tired of it. Which is good, since I'm moving for pharmacy school in a month and those are the foods that will frequent my kitchen.

Good luck man...1000-1500 is certainly minimal...even for a guy my size at 5'10" 170lbs

If you can shed pounds the first year u can do anything...most people search for the comfort foods and convenience due to the studying/pressure. But anyone with enough discipline to resist the easy carbs as a p-1 through their own intestinal fortitude will reap the benefits as their classmates balloon...like an optical illusion...where it'll appear your losing twice the weight 😀 relativity is sweet

You work out any of these nifty equations?

Give me a filet wrapped in bacon with simmered garlic/onions/mushrooms on top and i feel like a king!

And some of that vegetable ragout on the side to dull my palette in between bites 😀

That's the fun part about diets...once they're over.

if you get to that point, forget pharmacy, just be a IFBB and compete for Mr. Olympia 👍

Comfort food? Bah. If anything, I'm going to be more comfortable once I'm out on my own. I'm very different from the rest of my family, which makes home life rather stressful.

I worked out a few of those equations. It seemed that the more complex the formula, the more calories it called for me to have. The only one that sounded reasonable was one that said for a large amount of weight loss, I should eat around 2400 calories per day. One of them even worked out where I would supposedly lose weight eating 3800 calories per day. Bulllllllllllllllshiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. I'm able to keep myself satisfied on a meager diet of lean proteins, so I'm going to stick with what works.

As far as the "classmates ballooning" thing...as long as the hot girls stay hot, that's all the motivation I need to eat right. And if a few of them put some meat on their bones, all the better. I love me a full-bodied woman. Nothing's less sexy than hugging a girl and feeling her ribs.

if you get to that point, forget pharmacy, just be a IFBB and compete for Mr. Olympia 👍

Screw that. My brain is far more genetically gifted than my body, so I'll stick with what brought me to the dance. Besides, I want to be lean and muscular, not a jacked-up freak of nature like a Jay Cutler (not the NFL one) or a Silvio Samuel.

I suddenly feel as though my diet and exercise plan has taken over this thread. Oh, well. Nothing breeds discipline quite like accountability, and now that the entire SDN population knows about this...no turning back.

Woooooo good luck!!! I will hold you to this at SJF!!

Just weighed myself. Starting weight = 305 lbs.

So I have to drop 55 pounds or more. Here we go.

I have concluded that Cerner Medstations are inferior to Pyxis. We has a t-storm come through...knocked the power out...it took IT about 4 hours to get them back up and running. Here I am all alone manually dispensing everything for the entire hospital. I've never seen a ****-storm circus like I just witnessed...nurses out there fighting over their place in line over whose now order gets first dibs...the ER people screaming at me every 3 minutes...people started heckling me for some reason...it was like some sort of bizarre lord of the flies-esque sociological experiment gone awry.

What the hell kind of ****ty ass med dispensing system is utterly crippled every time a power surge happens?

God...this place...

The machines are not wired to an uninterruptible power supply?

I'm not familiar with that - I know the McKesson AccuDose, Pyxis and OmniCell.

Cerner has a knack for making everything more difficult than it needs to be anyway.

Apparently not.
Damn, sounds like the server was set up really late in the day one Friday. Someone in IT should get canned. The server should have been on UPS, and RED power. Wonder what the equipment in the OR is plugged into. Maybe someone got the wrong leg operated on today....
