The Official 1/29/2011 MCAT Club!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
She took all the AAMCs her lowest score was 28 AAMC 3. It was her first practice. Her last practice was AAMC 11 1/25/11. A 22 though, it doesn't make sense to me. She's a pharmacology major. I am really baffled! She bakes when she's upset. There are cupcakes and brownies all over our apt. Poor girl! Does anyone have any suggestions, She's registered to retake it in May.

Congrats on getting your scores back everyone! And thank you so much for listing your aamc practice scores too.

For those of you who scored really high on the biological sciences section (12+) --- how did you study for this section? Did you use flashcards? How do you deal with the heavy volume of memorizing (i.e. I feel like a lot of bio questions I miss because I did not memorize something well)?

I'm studying for the Apr MCAT right now and am having a lot of trouble getting biological science to improve at all (started a 10 in October and still a 10 in March)

I'm having the same exact problem... everything else progressed nicely, but I got a 10, rarely an 11 on every biological sciences practice section I took. Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated!

lol. congratulations man. I got the exact same score 34M except i had 1 higher in PS and 1 lower in BS. What happened in your essay? I couldn't finish one of mine. I got cut off in the middle of a word as I was trying desperately to tie it all together at the end.

Lol. I could've cared less about. I just met with my premed advisor today who said the writing sample doesn't really matter, especially if you have other evidence other writing capability: ie A's in English composition and writing intensive classes.

Hey you guys,

I got a measley 31R (VB 9, PHY 12, BIO 10). This was my first time taking the test, and my undergrad GPA is 3.7. But I aspire to apply to top and middle-tier schools (e.g. Columbia, NW, BU, etc.), as well as some good Canadian ones. Should I re-take? If I do, it will have to be in early May, which gives me only two months of study time (after a one month break with, I'm sure, a decent amount of info loss).

Addendum: I've been scoring high 20s to low 30s on my practice tests (with a gradual increase upwards, and higher VB scores than what I got). However, I started focusing more on info cramming instead of doing practice tests as MCAT date approached because I was worried I wasn't taking in as much potential info as I could. In hindsight, I should have really just been doing passages since less than 10% of what I read was actually on the test...and lots of new info interpretations were involved. Sigh.

Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What was your practice exams' average? Do you THINK you can score higher? Or do you WISH you can score higer? I don't want to sound rude or mean, but maybe that 31 is all you got right now.

If you're going to retake the exam (and go through all the hassle of studying HARDCORE for it again) then you should be shooting for a 3 point increase (a balanced 34 or higher). I lower score (under 21) will only look bad in your application and scoring around a 31 again wil seem to me like a waste of time.
