The Official 9/7/12 MCAT Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also, is there anyone else out there who is banking on a a miracle 15 on verbal or something? lol. I felt very good about that verbal section.
I had a dream I got a 15 on Verbal. I'm not banking on anything, but hey it'd sure be nice. At the least it'd be nice to repeat the 13 I got last time, especially given that my science subsection scores are generally lackluster.

Also, is there anyone else out there who is banking on a a miracle 15 on verbal or something? lol. I felt very good about that verbal section. Maybe, too good...😎 Also, did anyone see the person in the 8/23 thread that had an aamc range of 28-32, but got a 37 on test day? Plz God, let that be me this time. PLEASE. I don't know how I'veI made it the past few weeks, but I am now 100% back to panic mode about my score on this stupid test.

I second that, I am definitely back to panic mode. I keep thinking about studying again. With that being said, here's my analysis on the 9/7 test.

PS- I thought was easier than the practice exams. I had about 5 questions that I guessed on, and the question everyone keeps referring to was definitely one I guessed on. But, I did finish the test with about a minute to spare.

VR- Started out well, but there were two passages at the end that made me scratch my head. I spent way too much time on the dinosaur passage. I usually average about 9-10 minutes on one passage in the aamc practice exams, and I spent about 14 minutes on the dinosaur passage. I finished the section but felt rushed towards the
end. Overall, I feel okay about this section.

WS- was AWESOME!!!!!!

BS- Well, I agree with everyone, this section was difficult. Probably because I should have read more journals to prepare. Did my best, and now I give God the rest.

This is my second time taking this exam. The first was three years ago right after graduation, and I didn't prepare. I only studied for 3 weeks. This time around, I studied my a** off for months and took 7 practice exams. I also took the old school exams on paper (which are longer). This helped me with time management and I'm glad I did, because it paid off. I finished every section.

I thought that it was easier than the Kaplan exams. I didn't take any AAMC practice exams. I guessed on 2, and had educated guesses on another 2.

I didn't like the 1st passage. It was written by a 9th grader with a thesaurus. The rest went well. I didn't take prepare for the verbal section, at all. I took it cold.

Yeah, it was fun.

Agree, too. I wasn't expecting that many journal passages, but I felt okay about this section. It was harder than the Kaplan practice tests.

I studied for 3 months, reviewing a chapter of Kaplan's prep books from one science subject per day, then reviewed for 2 weeks, then took 4 practice tests (1 per day) starting at 4 days out from the real test. I didn't have a problem with time. I finished every section of our MCAT with about 2 minutes left. This was my first real MCAT.

You and I agree on a lot of things, especially the PS, unlike most people here. I thought that I should write this because you and I seemed fairly similar in terms of how difficult we thought each section of our MCAT was. But, I'm curious how our scores will turn out?

THERE'S NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT NOW LETS ALL JUST WAIT WITH OUR RAZOR BLADES AND BOTTLE OF JACK DANIELS READY FOR OCTOBER 9TH

Ahem...sorry 🙂

Hi,

I sat for the September 6th p.m. test so I am in the same boat as you. This wait is so incredibly brutal. The practice tests and their instant feedback did not prepare me for the anxiety ridden, stomach churning uncertainty! I felt like I kind of went out-of-body during the tests. My adrenal glands were pumping so hard they made my heart jealous...

Having to take the MCAT again would not be the end of the world but it is logarithmically worse than doing well and never having to stress about it again. The lowest I got on practice tests was a 31, but I felt so incredibly bad coming out of that test. I think the level of stress hormones may have shut down higher brain functions, because I felt a few fries short of a Happy Meal. Some very basic questions were rendered difficult/time-consuming due to this 😛

I could have anywhere from a 27 (8,10,9) to a 37 (12,13,12) and the ambiguity is agonizing.

I'll be ready with my 14-year caribbean (rum) cask Balvenie. 👍

*insert joke about MCAT score and having to apply to the Caribbean here*

Work on your eminem face. It helps me.

When I make his face, I lose interest in lots of things, and just get kind of smug.

Try it for yourself and see.

Maybe it's because it was the third time I took this test, but I don't feel like I feel nearly as crappy as the lot of you sound. I thought most of us were looking forward to getting back to our original lives before the MCAT!

Cmon guys. There is literally nothing you can do so return to the life you had before the exam for just one more week. I don't think it's that hard to do... Although again, it is probably because it's the second time I have had to wait for a score (voided my first exam).

The above is what worries me. Other than the PS section, I felt the other 2 sections were fair. This isn't to say that I thought they were easy (cuz I definitely found them challenging), only to say that, on average, they felt very similar to the later AAMC exams (8,9,10). But now, I'm getting really worried. Looking at some recent score threads, some of the people who felt the worst seemed to do the best. I just hope I didn't fall for stupid tricks. Also, sdn has a nice way of making you feel sh*tty about yourself. I'm just hoping for 33+. Of course, I would love higher, but not so realistic based on my practice scores. Then I look at score threads and see people scoring 40+ almost effortlessly. 7 more days. I think this will be my last post until score release day.

Holy crap, one week to go :scared:
Is anyone else both freaked out and inspired by the 44s and 43s people in the Sept. 1st thread got??! 😱

To be honest, I'm pretty surprised people thought that this exam wasn't too bad. Maybe you are all a smart lot, but I thought this exam was WAY harder than my last two. I came out of my last exam thinking I totally failed the BS but came out with an 11. The thing was, other people found it insanely challenging as well. I thought this exam was hard with all three sections compared to the AAMC's and my last two exams, yet most of you are claiming it wasn't too bad. Either a lot of SDNers will be getting very good scores, or I will just get a pretty crappy score haha.

Maybe the test was easier maybe the test was harder you can't really tell. But from what I'm guessing, usually the people who did well generally tend to be more inclined to talk about it immediately after the score is released so it could just be that. Oh well, no use thinking about it. 5 more days!

Anyone else getting hammered this weekend before I get my score and possibly have to close myself out to the world again to study and retake? 🙂

i actually dont think the scores of 43 and 44 on the Sept 1 are real.... someone trying to freak out everyone else
OK, I can agree with you about having some doubts about the guy who joined SDN last month, has 8 posts total, and posted about his MCAT score of 44.

But are you seriously telling us that you think Narmerguy is lying about his 43? He has a crapton of street cred around here.

Not sure the 43 is real either its too sketchy that a lot of 9/1/12 got above 40 or near the 40
i mean everyone who posted their grades besides two or three were more then 38 until 44
that doesnt seem realistic

Yeah ^ this leads me to believe that people would actually come on here and post fake mcat scores lol. At first I was like why would anyone do that???
It never ceases to amaze me how many people consider the Internet to be some kind of giant free-for-all playground where appropriate social behavior is completely irrelevant and any connection to real-life consequences does not exist. My favorite analogy for this is how people seem to think they're invisible when driving their cars, which is why they're sitting in a glass box blithely picking their noses.

Quite a lot of professional networking goes on via SDN, among those who choose to consider this just another extension of our normal adult lives.

I can find many threads on SDN that contradict this, but at least in the more popular threads I will agree. Most people post anonymously with no personal information available on their SDN profile, so there's little cause to lie. Trolls do exist on these forums, however...

Whether or not the 43/44s are true I'm not sure. But if, as Dianyla said, one of the posters has quite a bit of a reputable history on SDN, then I would be inclined to believe their score.

i'm a longtime sdn member (on a different username). lol narmerguy is definitely legit. He's been on here since high school. his score is truly unbelievable (but real).

Bottle of Whiskey and a Handgun ready.

hilarious!!! made my day, considering that i'm just sitting here at work in this god awful place. I can't wait, the anxiety is gonna pile on tomorrow after I leave work.

bump to all my kinfolk that are barely feeling nervous. I'm coming to terms with all possibilities :xf:😕

Hi Guys,

I am a non-trad second career student, so I don't know a lot of the common pre-med procedures. Is anyone actually applying for this November's deadline at any schools? The school of my choice has a Nov 1 deadline, so there is time, but I wanted to wait for my score. Now I am not sure if it is even worth applying being so late...

Thoughts?

Thank you!

Janel

ok so ive been lurking this thread for a while and saw that apparently our exam was pretty much identical to one from over 4 yrs ago. i've been sitting here googling nonstop with no results. does anyone wanna point me in the right direction?

I would wait until next cycle and get it out early.

i've stayed off these forums since i discovered 'em a handful of years back--talk of 40+ scores always drove me mad.

but alas, one more day until we can sleep easily or we're destined for another couple months of purgatory. good luck, everyone. may the gods smile upon you 🙂

I was averaging 24(8-7-9)'s on my practice tests with my highest score being a 27(9-9-9).

I'M HOPING I GET MY HIGH!

I was going to void, but I felt too confident with PS on this test to let it go. *fingers crossed*

One final prediction before the scores are out tomorrow.
AAMC average: ~29

MCAT predictions
PS=9-11
