****The Official Harvard Dental Class of 2018 Interview/Acceptance Thread****

Yeah, same here, still waiting on the follow-on emails. I'm an old guy, so I am really hoping my high school can find transcripts from 11 years ago...

I was way late, I delayed taking my DAT until after I completed airborne training so my application did not mail out until about three and a half weeks ago. I was worried that it would affect my chances for interviews, but I am feeling a lot better now that the Harvard and Columbia invites came.

Harvard did not update the AADSAS portal, it does not even appear on my school decisions page. I received my application complete notification on 6 September from Harvard and on 5 September from Columbia.

Well maybe ill just have to wait a while longer then. Mine was complete on the 20th. They probably haven't even had time to review it yet anyway. Congrats again on the interview!

Hope that helps!

I emailed Ms. Berg and she stated it may be an error with the AADSAS portal.

For those of you filling out the supplementary questionnaire, do you know if the three page limit is in reference to the essay questions alone or is it for the entire document?

I'm going with the entire document👍

Did you guys get the interview invite by phone? And did anyone get asked to do supplemental and not get interview invite? Thanks and congrats

Phone interview invite yesterday afternoon. I received an email confirmation, but no supplemental email yet.

Yes, invite by phone and the supplemental email follows a day or two later.

So, I assume that we just type straight into the document. Is that correct? And keep everything to a max of 3 pages? Thanks!

Congrats to everyone who is scheduled for an interview! Don't be nervous 🙂

Just got the call for an interview for 11/7. Thought that ship had sailed. Never been so happy to be wrong...

Also got a call for interview yesterday. Scheduled on 12/06.

Not complaining by any means, but....is it odd that my only 3 interviews are at columbia, upenn, and harvard? Hoping to hear something from Michigan at least (in-state school).

depends. If you're research experience far outweighs shadowing or volunteering then I don't think it is odd at all. Maybe those 'easier' schools you applied to don't want research-types. I am surprised you didnt get one from Michigan but you most certainly will.

Seems weird to me. But the research comment does make sense. How much do you have?

I have no research, lots of volunteering and shadowing...interviews at Penn and Columbia among others, nothing from Harvard

I have one year of cell & molecular biology research on kinetochore proteins. It was very basic in comparison to some of the stuff people are doing these days. Had a symposium at the end of the year, no publications.

Personally, I wasn't too fond of research in undergrad mostly because my PI gave me the worst impression about what the research life is like, but that might change in dental school.

Any other explanations?

I had only one as well, with publication and author... this school was an absolute shot in the dark as I too held the notion that they strongly prefer applicants with intense research background.. Not complaining about the invite, but surprising nonetheless.

I had not a single hour of research and I got an interview. I don't think the research itself matters so much as intellectual curiosity in an area that could potentially spur interesting research, since every student is required to do a research project. It seems like a really great program whether or not you're interested in research, very different from the few others I have seen, but really great.

For those of you with interviews this weekend (congrats!), how was it?

Congrats to everyone who received interviews! I will hopefully seem some of you on December 6th 🙂

Since my interview is after Dec. 2nd and Harvard's class only has 35 people, does that basically mean I'm interviewing for a waitlist spot?

Also interviewing on Dec 6! And I don't think so, according to last year's thread, they only accept 10 out of the 35 spots on the first monday of December.

Was there no pre-dec spots open? And no to your question, from what I've heard they don't start really giving out acceptances till mid January.

I interviewed earlier this month and it was a great experience. Not the large groups you see at some schools, so it was easy to ask all the questions I had and get a more authentic view of the school. Everyone was really friendly and it was a low stress day.

To those of you who got an interview invite, congrats! Also, would you guys be able to post your residency and stats please? It'll be much appreciated.

Does anyone know the admission statistics to get in here?

It's on their website. 3.86/22

Not a requirement by any means, but it was their average for their past incoming year.

Ok thanks! I was looking on the website and couldn't find it.
Do you know what the supplemental application is? Or anyone else??

How is it possible to write directly on to the supplementary questionnaire without going over 3 total pages? There's hardly enough room for more than a couple lines of text...

I'm having the same problem. I'm guessing we'll have some time to elaborate on our answers in the interview.

I actually sent mine in with exactly 4 pages, received a confirmation email with no problems.
