They said this at the penn interview actually. I am planning to tour the facility to make a better decision!

The number of times I have heard depressing being used to describe all the schools ive toured at this cycle is up there.

Hey, current D1 here! The lectures and lab classes (as of my first semester experience) are in the basement, but I wouldn't say it's depressing lol. It was recently renovated from what I've heard so the lighting, colors, etc. are a lot brighter than before. Clinic and other things are above the first floor, so there's that too. Congrats to everyone who got accepted so far! And for those who haven't gotten any news yet, don't lose hope because I received an interview invite late January and got accepted mid-February.

For the first two years, you’ll spend most of your time in our two classrooms (b13 and b60) as well as the preclinical lab which is all in the basement.
it used to be depressing and was nicknamed the dungeon cause it was dark and musty but they renovated everything so it’s super bright and spacious and clean down there. plus there are plenty of windows by the student lounge and in the hallway next to the pre clinic room so it’s not depressing. our first second and third floors are reserved for our two main clinics as well as all the specialty clinics so there’s literally no space to put classrooms there too

Thank you so much great to hear about a positive experience. I was going from feedback from others so it’s great to get another perspective!

Great to hear the clarification I was curious from the feedback of others so this is fabulous news it’s my number one pick!

Hey guys! Congrats to all of those who were accepted! I’m a 2022 grad so feel free to ask me any questions!

Penn is my top pick as of now, but I wanted to ask current students if you felt the class size was an issue ever? I know the average class size is around 100, and Penn is bordering on 200. Was there every competition for seats or a lack of attention from faculty, or did you feel that you had the resources you needed? Thanks!

When I was there I think I graduated with 165 or so of us? Plenty of resources and no lack of faculty. They split clinic time well amongst the students. When half the class was in clinic the other half was either on specialty rotations or practicing at community sites. I liked the class size. You’re with these people for four years. It’s nice to be able to have friends in different groups and see different people every day!

Hi! Thanks for offering to answer any questions we may have! Penn is probably the best program I got accepted to so I am strongly considering it, but the price tag is making me unsure. I am interested in potentially specializing but I don’t know if I am for sure wanting to specialize or do general. Do you think Penn is still worth it if I decide to do general? (I did not receive any scholarships on acceptance day btw. I would’ve probably been leaning more towards Penn had I received one)

I’m a big proponent of going to the cheapest school. I loved my experience at Penn, and many of my classmates did go on to specialize, but I also feel that they could have specialized from any school.

Has anyone who received a deans scholarship received an official notice of that via email or mail? They said it on the phone but I want to confirm it in writing before placing the deposit

Of course! I can also confidently say my classmates enjoy their time here too! It is a relatively larger class, so it’s hard to get to know everyone, but there isn’t a competitive environment to the school (not ranked also), so everyone is super friendly and helps each other out. Feel free to ask any questions!

Could any D1’s please speak about their experience with the new curriculum and days off on Fridays? I’m interested in knowing more about it!

So for the new curriculum, all the classes/topics are combined and also on the same exams (based on d1 first semester experience). For example, radiology, ethics, health statistics, biochemistry, pathology, histology are all on one exam (as they are taught under the same course name). This supposedly eliminated having exams every week, and now it’s about once every other week. Off on fridays is really nice because it gives time to catch up or destress (or literally ANYTHING you want). However, it’s really only the first semester where we have fridays off.

Hi!
Since Penn interviews a lot of applicants ( 90%!) does anyone know what percentage of interviewers get acceptance?

During my interview they said they received 2,993 applications, they interview 400 people, and fill a class of 168 (but they end up sending out quite a few more than 168 acceptances since some people turn it down). So probably anywhere from 42-50% of interviewers get acceptance?

~ 57.47% (accepted/interviewed = 150/261) per data included in ADEA’s 2022 OG (accepted) and 2023 DSE (interviewed).

Edited to correct number interviewed to reflect 261 rather than 161.

Is anyone able to speak on the clinical experience at Penn? Im not looking to specialize so Im wondering if anyone can share how well prepared we would be if we wanted to go into private practice right after (no gpr/aegd)

I graduated from Penn and went right into practice. I thought that the clinical experience was well rounded. No matter where you go there’s going to be a learning curve going into private practice, even if you do a GPR. My experience at Penn allowed me to start working and be successful fairly quickly. I didn’t get any molar endo or implant placing experience at Penn, but did countless fillings, a good number of crowns and removable, restored implants, decent number of extractions. A major takeaway from Penn was excellent training in treatment planning which is at the foundation of private practice success.

Just received an interview for next week! 3.8 gpa 22AA 22TS
Congrats!! I'm also waiting for the interview 🙁
Did you send any letters of intent or call the admissions? or is there anything you did before getting the interview? Thanks!

Thank you so much for replying and the info!

Is there typically a timeline for acceptances given to those who interviewed early or mid January?
