I see alot of people make this thread for their MCAT date. I was unable to find one for this date so I took the liberty to make one. Please share what you have found works or does not work for you?

I don't drink, but here's to everyone planning on getting intoxicated this weekend lol:

soooo much inhibited ADH

hey y'all,

I need your input in this question I posted in other thread:

"What happens if you release the MCAT score in mid July which unfortunately turned out quite low...but update on the application that you will be retaking. Would school reject you to send out the secondary, or give you another chance at it because you identified yourself as a potential retaker?"

I already applied and submitted to schools and I'm really not feeling confident at all right now. Considering voiding if I will be straight up rejected.

Thanks.

Schools that screen for secondaries have minimums that u need to reach b4 they send it out. If u indicate that u do a retake and ur retake meets the minimums then u will get a secondary sent out. I would call a few schools and ask them just to be sure but I'm pretty sure that's how that works.

Some schools don't screen so as soon as ur app is complete they will send out the secondary.

ADH concentrates urine (not dilutes) as a result of increased permeability to water in the collecting duct

No it doesn't. ADH dilutes urine. The increased permeability to water in the collecting duct allows water to flow back into the bloodstream, diluting the urine and increasing blood volume.

Not trying to be mean, but can you find me one legitimate source that says increased ADH results in dilute urine? I couldn't

ADH concentrates urine. Water does flow back into the bloodstream, but that water is coming from where it was previously (the urine). If the urine now has less water, it has a higher concentration of solutes relative to the volume (since volume decreased but solute concentration didn't).

blueshockey, i'm taking my test in missouri. Where are you taking yours?

lol wut? If you form aquaporin channels in the collecting duct and reabsorb water into your bloodstream, of course ADH would concentrate your urine...

I know, I know.....I'm stupid lol. I put the reasoning that would indicate concentrated urine and then said it would be dilute. haha

It's all good...at least this is getting me to review my hormones, haha. From my previous testing there was absolutely no physiology on my exam, but I guess I can't ignore it this time either. :|

lol
to review ADH,
inhibited ADH blocks H20 channels from forming in the collecting duct. Causes diluted urine, lowered blood pressure.

Future Gunners.... :eyebrow:

Yeah it is good review. Can't wait for this crap to over haha. I hope I don't make a mistake like that on the real thing. lol

I know ADH concentrates urine. But alcohol blocks ADH, therefore, without the effect of ADH, the urine is diluted and the blood pressure is low.
Why is that wrong?

I've lost all faith in Kaplan.
They just said in their bio review book that golgi apparatus receives stuff from smooth ER.😱

Imagine if I didn't know before hand that it was wrong. tsk tsk tsk shame on you Kaplan. I wonder how many more mistakes they have in there that I don't know. What if I've memorized it wrong???😱😱😱

2pm as well. I'm taking it in Lake Forest, you?

And also, sorry for being a stalker but are you reapplying this cycle? What happened?

Oh nice, I'm taking it in Gardena because it's closer to school. But if our test was on a weekend I would have taken it in Lake Forest haha.

Yeah I'm reapplying. I re-took the MCAT last July, got the score back in August. I did 2 points lower because verbal was such a clusterf***. I submitted my app about a week before scores were released, in early August. I didn't get verified until early September. My gpa is mediocre and my MCAT scores are high 20s, so that on TOP of a really late app landed me only 1 interview at my alma mater, which I ultimately didn't get into. I figure if there's 3 things I would improve for this cycle, it would be applying way earlier (which I did, got verified a week ago, woo!), improving my MCAT (which I hope breaks a 30 this time), and writing secondaries way ahead of time.

Taking AAMC 11 at 2 as well!

I've been having dreams about doing passages for the last few nights.... Ugh... I can't get a break from the MCAT ever

Me too! I wake up reciting formulas Lol Just wait until it's over when we start having dreams that we forgot about it and never took it lol

I'm in socal, too. Taking it in SD at 2 pm.

Good job to all of you who have been working at it! Today's been blah for me. Did some review in the morning then nothing at all. Gonna try to review some bio for the rest of the night (after Jeopardy 😛). We're so close, guys!

Edit: Ok, after How I Met Your Mother.

are you taking it at SDSU?

You're not wrong. I was wondering why people were arguing about your statement. I think they missed the fact that you said ADH was inhibited. It was kinda funny to see all the back-and-forth when it all started from a correct statement. At least it cleared up someone's brain fart haha.

Ahh yeah post-MCAT dreams are going to be worse! At first it's going to be dreams of whether not you clicked void and then afterward it's going to be checking for scores. Omg I can't wait for all of this to be over like seriously!

Also.... I can't figure out how to study physics/chem anymore. Should I reread my notes or just go through flash cards? Help folks!

I'm so scared that i'm gonna forget all the formulas I know at the start of PS :-(

Depending on testing center you could just do a memory dump on your scratch paper during the tutorial... Like just write down formulas you tend to forget... Last time I took the MCAT I'm pretty sure I was able to write during that 10 min section before the beginning of the test.

Assuming it's allowed (I don't know why it wouldn't be), use your 10 min tutorial to write down all the equations you know on your scratch sheet.

edit - ahh dnovikov said it before me.

Nope, I think 2 pm was full there when I signed up (and I definitely didn't want 8 am lol), so I'm taking it at some testing center. Would've been nice if it was at state so I wouldn't have to drive out to the center tomorrow just to make sure I know where it is. Are you taking it at SDSU?

I haven't had an MCAT-related dream this entire time! I think the closest was last night when an aunt in my dream said someone got a 36 something or other but not specifying at all if it was a score or she was talking about something else completely. Then my dream cut to a scene of my friends and I getting ready to go out to bars so maybe it was MCAT-related. 😀

are you sure though?
my exam is at 8:00 AM and I will prob be up by 6 so it would be nice if I can just go over the formula sheet before I leave the house and when I get to the testing center, I can write down all those I remember during the tutorial.......I don't wanna get in trouble for doing this though so is anyone else doing this?

Great minds think alike 😉 And I heard somewhere that at some testing centers they don't let you write at all during the tutorial section. Luckily I'm testing at the same one I did last year so I'm pretty sure I can, woo:highfive:

did you ask them or did they tell you it was okay?

Not a 100% sure so don't quote me lol. I don't think they said you can't so I just assumed you could.

Am I the only person taking at 8am??? No fair!

There are a lot of 8 am'ers. I think they made themselves known earlier in the thread lol. I was gonna do 8 am since I like to get things like this over and done with, but I also just wanted a sort of buffer time in case I suddenly felt sick in the morning or something.

I was also thinking of writing down equations beforehand. I hope they let us.

Two more days, guys! We're almost there! No one's had any meltdowns, right? Just wanna make sure everyone's doing ok. 👍

:highfive:

I was able to jot down formulas really quickly too last time I took it but I don't think I even had a chance to look at them.... But just make sure you do it during the tutorial. I mean at that point you started the test... It's not like it's a cheat sheet
