The Official June 21, 2014 MCAT thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
are you guys/gals submitting your AMCAS before you get your MCAT scores? I was aiming to do it within the next week myself, just putting the finishing touches on my personal statement and need to edit my activity descriptions.

completed and sent everything today

You don't wanna wait on that, it takes a while for transcript to get verified. + getting it over with, now nothing stands between me and that MCAT-> rape time lol

for those that submitted amcas, did you get an e-mail saying:
'Current Application Status: Submitted to AMCAS - Waiting for Transcripts'
Your application is on hold and no further processing can occur until AMCAS receives transcripts from the following schools1.
School Name: *******************************
Dates Of Attendance: 09/2010 - 05/2014
Transcript Status: Not Received

I already sent in my transcript a couple of weeks ago...

I'm pretty sure I read about this as a glitch this year in another thread that resolves itself after a few days- I would still call and make sure they're aware of it though !

blah, AAMC #7 10/9/10, brought my PS to double digits for the first time (woo!) but went down in verbal and bio. I thought the bio was pretty tough, there was one passage I'm pretty sure was in another language......

Not sure if I should push to July 2nd now or not :/

i've been on the phone line for an hour

It was because they put my transcript in the 2013-2014 cycle instead of 2014-2015. because I sent my trancript before opening the 2015 application

So apparently the PS section of the June 5th MCAT was absolutely brutal... so if SDN rumors are true that means we are either gunna get a brutal verbal or bio.

original

but no really, I'd cry and void...

Also I got the same email about the transcripts...and I sent mine in before the cycle opened I think. Guess I better get ready to sit on the phone for an hour

I did poorly on AAMC 7 today too...now I'm worried!

blah, probably going to try AAMC #8 on sunday and make my decision off of that....

I think the poster said that they submitted before opening the 2015 application? I definitely had my app opened and included the transcript request/tracking paper thing sent with it.

@vanillabear55 I was going to rush and try to take AAMC #8 tomorrow buttt just did some sleuthing on SDN and it seems people have been scoring significantly (4-5 pts) lower on AAMCs #7 and #8...It seems these two are much more difficult and 9,10, and 11 are way more indicative of how you'll actually score. One poster scored 26 on #7, 27 on #8, and 31 on #9 and #11 and scored 31 on the real deal. So while they may be good practice, they're also confidence killers and may not be as indicative of how you'll actually score.

Interesting... AAMC #9 it is!

I think I'm going to do some heavy physics content review and passages tomorrow and some verbal practice, and try again on Sunday.

Vanilla bear i dont know about aamc 7 but aamc 8 PS was pretty tough and i felt like i got a lot of lucky guesses. Everyone is right there are tons of posts dedicated to how difficult aamc 8 is

same. Happy studying!

thanks! my ego thanks you too, good luck yourself! Maybe I'll take #8 after I build my confidence up a wee bit 🙂

Gotcha, thanks as well!

Hello, sorry I'm late to the party.

I will be taking my MCAT on 6/21 too! I haven't been able to get a lot of studying in with all the stuff with the application and work, but I'm still taking practice tests.

I took AAMC #7 at the end of my sophomore year and got a 25 (7, 9, 9). Two weeks ago I started taking practice tests. AAMC #3 I got a 26 (8, 10, 8) which I was a little bummed out about. Last weekend I took AAMC #8 and got a 27 (10, 8, 9). I am going to try my hand at practice test 10 this morning. We will see how that goes!

Reviewed 104 chem problems from the AAMC diagnostic package yesterday. Gonna review some physics and orgo today and take AAMC 10 tmrw to track my progress

also I keep messing up on renals and the lymphatic system so I should probs review that too

Renal is also killing me :bang:

13 more days.... i ended up just quitting content review and have been doing a practice test every morning, seems to be helping more

Did anyone here finish the AAMC self-assessments? I'm curious to know what the scores from that would translate to on the real thing.
If anyone else has taken them my scores are:
92% G chem
91% O Chem
88% Physics
96% Bio
99% Verbal

99 verbal. Are you trolling!? That's insane.

No but thats really dang good! I took them as diagnostics without studying and got around 70%. I was getting 9s on the AAMCs at the time

Nah, verbal has always come very easy to me. I originally went to college to be a lawyer so I endured the multitude of passages and logic games that is the LSAT. Decided two weeks before moving to DC for law school that I couldn't go through with it and went back to get pre-med requirements. Physics, on the other hand, was always terrible for me (our professor never made us memorize formulas ) so the last two months has been almost completely dedicated to becoming more comfortable with it.

By trolling I meant your asking that AAMC SA question as if you think you are going to get a bad score lol

I predict mid to high 30s for you sir

URGHHHGHGHG I purchased FL #8 to do this morning and it still hasn't updated due to maintenance. If it takes much longer to show up in my account, I guess I'll have to start tomorrow.

I'm wondering how these horrific MCAT sections compare to TBR passages. TBR has a reputation for being tough and excessively detailed, but people in other threads have made it out to seem like the sections are impossible. I find TBR passages to be quite manageable, so if they're more indicative of the content we'll see on the exam, I almost feel like I'd rather spend more of my time doing practice problems purely on advanced content, rather than doing AAMCs that are considerably easier than the real thing... if that made any sense.

I had been doing so well progressively scoring higher upper 20s, thinking I'm about to crack 30 then the past two I've been scoring 26s sooooo devastating!! I feel your pain @med candidate ...Idk what's going on but it needs to turn back around quick!

Honestly, looking at my mistakes, I just need a boat-load of practice under testing conditions. I might switch to Berkely Review FLs for while. Either July 2nd or July 12th, depending on how things change by nextweek

effit, just went out for a good run and got my head straighht Pumped for June 21st, lessgoo!

Well i mean ive done practice problems from all secondary sources and they just dont capture the style of AAMC and su
Furreal tho, I'm far more interpersonal than people who got 39s. Its a shame that it comes to this...
If thats the case then reschedule. If everything else on your apps look good I would say push back a month and got for 30+
better than applying early with a poor mcat score

Yeah, I took AAMC 10 today and was devastated at my score. However, I reviewed it a couple hours later and felt better about the whole ordeal. My problem on that test was in verbal. Until the last two AAMC tests, I would have said VR was my strong point. Interesting how that goes...

I'm trying to decide if I should by the self assessment package from AAMC...

Just bought it. From what I gather it's a good investment, I'll let you know how I feel once I start it tomorrow.

Excellent! I look forward to hearing your feedback too. I went to the official thread for it which seemed to hold nothing but good opinions...

I'm going to start doing them this week, the assessments, but I have a feeling July 2nd might just work out better timing wise.

In the grand scheme of things and 'being early', where would being being able to fully apply that first week of august put me? (I'm submitting for verification this week, so I should be good to go then)

Assessments are very good practice questions! They're basically questions from the old R exams. You don't have to complete all 100+ questions in one-sitting. It's actually extremely exhausting to so do many questions/passages in a row. I'm dividing them into 70minute/52-question chunks. Good luck y'all! 2 more weeks before freedom =D

what is an R exam? (sorry if this is a dumb question lol)
