****The Official New England Class of 2017 Interview/Acceptance Thread****

congrats everyone! do you guys know when the classes start?

I totally agree with Xelio about une interview technique. This was the worse and most unprofessional interview I attended. The two people interviewing me literally FOUGHT each other about what to ask me next, which made me uncomfortable. I hope that they change their interviewing next cycle because I know I was instantly turned off after the stressful interrogation.

Is there anyone who received this kind of email asking I am still interested in UNE Dental should a seat beomes available?

😕

I'm guessing that's a waitlist offer? Have you heard from any other schools yet or are you still considering going to USyd?

Yeah I got that e-mail as well.

I got the email as well but replied to withdraw my app! Good luck to those of you still waiting!!

Just got an E-mail saying that I was waitlisted and that there is no ranking system for the waiilist

Same... but they told me that in order to be removed from the list, when the seat is available, I need to retake one course and score certain grade... I thought such a thing should be screened before they gave me the interview.

they NOW say that I need to take one more course

Hi everyone…… just wanted to congratulate those that have been accepted and remind those that haven’t yet to not give up! I applied last cycle and never heard anything back from the four schools I applied to. I am curious as to those that say they had an unprofessional interview experience. May I ask who their interviewers were? I Interviewed November 5th by two people, one was a Dr. and one a UNE staff. I felt it was what I would expect for an interview. I did not feel it was unorganized or the two were unprofessional at all. I will say that I was fortunate enough to get four interviews at different schools this year and each had a different style and flow. This interview I least appreciated and left unsure was one of the three I ended up getting accepted to. I choose UNE because I want to be part of building a new program! I understand that is not for everyone. The good and bad that I hear I want to make sure to pass on to UNE to hopefully only improve the process going forward. I look forward to meeting the 2017 UNE class this August!

Sincerely, sorry for those who need to repeat courses!

Hey guys, does anyone know, anything about their wait list ranking system? They said something about tiers and ranks, changing? I just hope the rank its not like AAPL stock? Also you may not only have a rank but be in a some sort of group / tier? Also did anyone say that your rank is related to when you originally applied/ interviewed? Or is it my imagination

I really dont want to talk about this! You sound a lot like, internal member raking information!

1. Very little eye contact. (Lost my interest in about first 10 seconds of the interview)
2. 2 Interview forms, that change depending on response, for a total of 3 forms. (Quote me if I am wrong) This leads to discrepancy in summation of responses. It is known that every one of your answers is ranked on a scale, your style, technique, mannerism, and of course the answers you provide are geared towards a scale. One could make the argument that because there are two different forms present to cater to your particular personality, however how can a few questions (3-2) questions delineate that? Therefore some candidates may score poorly depending on the form they got, if their personality is somehow unrelated to the form. (This could be either or)
3. The forms originated from standardized school wide forms. Because the dental questions were not dental in nature. a. 16 year old girl ethical question. b. Failing restorations questions. Those two questions I am concerned to how they were graded, because they show a clear path of relationships the school wants to uphold.
for question a. If you say you dont tell the parents, you save your relationship with newest memeber of the familly that chose your office for years. Therefore if that individual gets married or has children and does not move away. You can facilitate a stronger relationship.
If you say, "yes the parents must know", you break the relationship, your practice suffers, yet you cover your r-end off any serious litigation, torts, and liabilities present in misdiagnosing individuals presenting to you with dental emergencies. I am 100% sure that is the answer the school looked for. Simply because gingival inflammation and pregnancy likes to go hand in hand, and does have to do with premature birth. Say you have a PA of that region, and parents ask why did you take an extra film, and you would not get out of that without lying about pregnancy. Unless the parents have low dental IQ and simply dont care why you take diagnostic films on their child in places other wise unusual to a periodic examination. Why, make this question appear? I dont understand.

The other question b. Are you willing to replace restorations? Well, the first thing that comes to mind, what kind of restorations, location, age, materials, none of that is provided. They could say at least what kind of restorations, but not the interviewer shook his shoulders and his hands in disapproval. Im not trying to be rude or anything. But if you answer yes, you are then a dental rapist (put your O2 mask on) and start the show involved with removing amalgam fillings which is bad with sound restorations, or simply because there are old, leaking, breaking down, fracturing, restorations/teeth you want to replace you can be considered good. Also replacing poorly done 1/2 done, root canals, and secondary decay is excellent. But you dont know that because you are not told what the restoration is about. So you must assume its not a 1 month old restoration, just placed with no filler/liner in it.

Some dentists will find the work of others to be very poor, but sometimes all those restorations old, and maybe a little tarnished/eroded/corroded. All of a sudden need to pop out one by one, not broken but need fixin. With no evidence of overhangs, marginal problems, or fracture lines, how can you justify fixing something not broken?

Lets look for anecdotal 1980's air pockets, and retention groves, and perfectly scalloped enamel, and if yaw cant find them, then argh matey, double o.o's, yar filling is out of there argh! All done in accordance of standard of care. lol

4. Worst thing is that, the whole atmosphere of, "we dont care who you are", so "hurry up, get out the door", and were tired to see you. Is awesome! Just the expressions on interviewers faces, were awesome. Well at least they were honest, and it wasn't where we dont like you but we will smile anyway, because we have to. That, could be perception.

Speaking of perceptions, those silly questions, " how do you recognize some one", or was it "how do you perceive individuals feelings"... how they act, or whats on their mind. Another wierd repertoire question. Because most dental emergencies involve people bringing themselves (their dental fears, emotional vulnerabilities, past experiences, household fights, addictions) to the dental office way before you ever realize. Most emergencies happen not because you did something wrong. So how is that even dental question?

Also, who you get out of two sets of two, might hold the way you spend your next four years, inst that fair?

After a series of those questions, and lack of eye contact, and tiredness of interviewers, I felt kind of sorry, and did not want to talk about my life, school, or past experiences, just because felt like they did not care, so what was the point? Like everyone wanted to get out of there both them and me. lol

I would have to agree with a lot of your points. After I left this interview I honestly didn't care about it. Don't get me wrong, I was grateful I recieved the opportunity, but my interviewers really rubbed me the wrong way. They sat there and just bombarded me questions directly off paper. Not even questions geared towards getting to know me. 90% where ethical questions or something completely irrelevant. When I would try to show some personality, they would cut me off and move on to a new question. It was extremely rude and I just felt extremely uncomfortable through out the entire interview. The program has potential, but maybe they should focus on hiring staff/faculty that actually care to get to know potential students.

Maybe after a few cycles they'll get it right.

I think my interview went well. I felt pretty comfortable. I did hear others say they were asked the 16 year old question. I do think, that although I would be able to answer the question as an RDH, if I were asked it, I don't really know what the "correct" answer is. They were just looking to see what you would say. The correct answer? Possibly that you would excuse yourself to look up the state laws pertaining to it, or give it about 24 hours before you would make the decision.....bottom line being, you would do what is best without breaking the law and putting yourself in a spot. But, it isn't a fair question to someone who has never worked in dentistry. There are many, many different ways to handle that situation. I think it is unfair to ask very specific dental questions. MANY interviewees have not gained the experience to answer those questions correctly, after all, that's why we are applicants to a dental program. But, my interview was fun and upbeat.

When did all of you interview? I interviewed at the very beginning of October and only had one female interviewer. She grilled me, like no other. But I was able to get my personality/experiences out on the table, and she never cut me off. The reason I say she grilled me is because she essentially put down my entire background/major, and said it was extremely easy. LUCKILY, I realized after that she was grilling me, but if I had realized then, that would have been horrible, because I can become defensive quickly (after I realize I need to be defensive). However, given this was my first interview, I just thought she was asking about it, so I told her how I took all these extra units in most of my semesters, etc etc and that I worked really hard. I was eventually accepted to UNE when their second round of acceptances went out.

The reason I ask when you were interviewed, because I'm wondering if they changed their style of interviewing as they went on through the cycle, given they are a new school. It's just extremely unfortunate that they wouldn't keep something consistent. The only ethical question I had was about a classmate cheating--nothing about any 16yr old girl or restorations. It seems as if we all went to a completely different school to interview...

Nonetheless, I wish you the best of luck and hope you can get into your top choice school!

I thought that out of my other interviews this one was very easy going and I basically had a nice conversation with my two interviewers. For those of us who accepted the invite to come to UNE, I was wondering if anyone looked into housing arrangements yet. Also there are supposed to be only 45 of us so it wouldn't hurt if everyone got to be familiar with one another either. Good luck to everyone and I hope everyone ends up where they would love to go. 🙂

Has anyone on the waitlist heard anything recently? Has anyone been accepted from the waitlist?

class size is pretty small (40-45) and they interviewed 300+ people. Do the math.

i do know one Texan in there and dunno if he got into any Texas schools yet.

There is always opportunity for someone to take another offer, and not pay their second deposit at UNE. Unfortunately the wait list is just that....waiting. But I doubt there won't be changes to the class by matriculation. They may have also bumped the seats, I heard a rumor about 60ish. But, that isn't confirmed.

students that got interviewed/accepted can you post gpa/dat scores pleaaaaaasee! thanks and congrats!

My DAT scores were 23RC, 21PA, 18AA, 16 TS, 19 Bio, 19 QR, 15/16 in Chems. My AADSAS gpa was like a 3.42/3.68 Science. My current gpa is a 3.89, not taking into consideration previous schools ( which is why the AADSAS was lower). I think being a hygienist probably helped counter those lower science scores.

I will be a member of the inaugural class at UNE and have tried to find the Facebook page...anyone have a link to it / does one exist? Looking forward to meeting everyone!
