Hey guys, so I wanted to share my info and stats and get some feedback to see if there's still a chance for me to hear for an interview.
I am a senior at my university and am graduating in Spring 2018. Psychology major, bio minor
overall GPA: 3.4, science GPA: 3.2
DAT: AA: 19, TS: 19, RC: 21, GC: 19, B: 19, OC: 21, QR: 14, PA: 14
I applied in late June/ early July
I have hundreds of hours worth of community service, shadowing, research, and I've also been working at my mom's dental practice.
I feel like my stats are pretty average, but I've been reassured that they're fine and sufficient to get in. However, I've been rejected from six schools already and no interviews so far. What I assume is holding me back is the fact that I'm a psych major and I don't have sufficient human biological sciences completed. I have almost all of my pre-reqs (will be taking Physics 2 and Biochem in the spring (although biochem is not a pre-req for NYU), and am currently taking Genetics, and Microbio. Next semester I'll be taking Physics 2, Biochem, Physiology, and Medical Terminology. I feel like these classes are bringing me towards the right track but since the bulk of my undergrad career has been mainly psychology and chemistry pre-reqs, I feel like it's a contributing factor as to why I'm not having any luck.
Although I'm already thinking it's more likely that I'll have to apply again next cycle with more classes and better stats, I am still waiting and hoping to get in to NYU by the skin of my teeth. NYU is my dream school and out of the 18 schools I applied to, this is the one I really only care about. I heard NYU takes notice if you show interest in them so I've made the effort to contact the admissions office every now and then to let them know of any updates, I requested to be added to a mailing list for any events they may have for undergrad students, and I recently sent out a letter of intent expressing my interest in their program. Now I'm just waiting and crossing my fingers to get an interview in the spring.
Any insight, wake up calls, or advice would be greatly appreciated!
