Just got a scholarship letter in the mail and it turns out I got the Dean's scholarship! OOS. Why are they making it so hard to turn them down?? 😢

That is awesome! Congrats! Do you know where you were on the OOS wait list? Also I think you need to get an Ohio driver's liscence, register your car in Ohio and then stay there for a certain number of days (so you can't have too long of a winter break out of the state, etc). I am not sure what else was required!

Honestly I don't know. I was never told. I'm assuming must have been pretty high on the list. I'm super excited, now I just got to get things set up and see how hard it will be to get residency.

I will decline all my 5 acceptance to go to Ohio.
I also want to know information about getting state tuition.
I heard that if my wife get a job before school starts, I can get state tuition for 4 years.

I emailed the school and the guy who does this sort of thing is out until monday. There is some information online if you google it, it will pull up and ohio state page with some links and information. Nothing super clear. I don't think I could make ohio work without getting at least 3 of the 4 years instate pricing, because 120k a year is a bit over the top otherwise.

The student there said they basically guide you through getting in-state tution after the first year. I don't think it is hard at all- they want you to get the instate tution.

Hey, does anyone know the laptop situation for school? Do we just bring one we already have it do we have to get it from the university?

You're not required to use a laptop in class or anything, so none are provided. You're free to bring your own, or an iPad, or w/e else you want to use for note-taking. Personally, I go old school with printed out notes, but loads of people use the notability app or take notes on their laptops. There's also a computer lab ("The Bytewing") where you can print off as much as you want for free.

I have not been accepted into OSU yet, although I desperately want the acceptance letter from OSU. I got an interview with OSU back in October. Although my GPA is below avg for OSU but my DAT scores somewhat compensated my GPA. I attended OSU for my undergrad majored in biochemistry.

Remember, avg is just an average. People with higher/lower stats are accepted into dental schools every year. A competitve application is more than GPA and DAT score, you extracurricular activities also plays a huge role.

I have a lot of working experience, volunteering experience, and shadowing experiences (won't go into details for these). I didn't do any research during my undergraduate. I believe OSU uses a special algorithm to rank their applicants. I believed that my ECs and DAT have both helped to compensate for my below average GPA.

After graduation, I spent about two months studying for the DAT, averaging about 8 hours everyday from 10AM to 8PM (30 min break in every 2 hours).

Here is the list of sources I used to prepare for the DAT:
1. Kaplan DAT: very basics material that is useful in identifying your weaknesses in each subjects.
2. DAT Bootcamp: questions are remarkably similar to the real DAT. Good for identifying things that you don't know.
3. Ace the DAT, PAT: best material for preparing for the PAT.
4. DAT achiever: more difficult than the real DAT.
5. AP Biology textbook: for Bio section
6. Chad's video: for O' chem, Gen Chem and math.
7. Scientific America: try to read as much as you can to build up your reading speed.
8. Previous DAT exams from ADEA:
9. Khan Academy: for math review.

Good luck foodie2008. I haven't heard much, but I just withdrew from the OOS wait list through the survey email that they sent. Hopefully there will be a few more folks doing that as well.

Hello all.

I am a prospective applicant and was wondering if you would see me as competitive/having a chance to get in.

I have 2 degrees in business from Fisher College of Business at Ohio State and worked for 5 years after school and recently enrolled at school and took ALL of the science prereqs and was wondering if I would be a competitive applicant in your eyes.

DAT
AA 20 / TS 18/ PAT 18 / 21 QR / 22 RC
(I only had about 2 weeks to solely study for the DAT ...may retake it mid summer)

My original undergrad GPA was a 3.0 from a few years ago
My science GPA is closer to a 3.6 from the past two years of classes

2 LORs from Chemistry professors (Gen Chem and O-Chem)
1 LOR from a general dentist (attended OSU for dental school)

Over 110 hours of shadowing as of now

Ohio resident

AA, TS, PAT these three are a very important factor for you to get invited for interview.
If I were you, I will make sure to improve this area.
