****The Official Roseman Univ. Class of 2019 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

Np, anything to help. Feel free to ask any questions that you might have. Current students will likely start joining the group as well to help answer any questions you guys might have. It's an exciting time!

I'm torn...I loved Roseman but I am still waiting to hear back from several schools and have an interview at my dream school lined up around the time our deposits are due. Is it faux-pas to ask Roseman for an acceptance extension? I figured it couldn't hurt but some are telling me that it's taboo to do so...

I'm also not in a place where I can easily put down the deposit and revoke my acceptance altogether should circumstances change :/ Any advice?

Do what feels best for you. Interview at a dream school is no small thing. Call Roseman, explain your situation, they're always really friendly.

Doesn't hurt to ask, but also realize the message that it conveys.

To hl808: Do you know if your dream school has a high acceptance rate for interviews? I would base my decision on that + how confident you are in your interview skills. Also I would suggest holding off on the call because it essentially tells Roseman that they are the second choice. By the way, when is your deposit due?

I would love to get into Roseman...

EDIT: Can anyone shed light on the alternate list? I know there is an interview date in the first week of January so can we expect more info after?

Does anyone have any tips for writing an update letter or letter of interest? Is that appropriate?

Here is something I found last cycle, it is written for those waitlisted in med school and the advice translates very well for those waitlisted at D school.

***
Waitlists
This section covers ways to get in off waitlists. Many applicants these days are waitlisted rather than outright accepted or denied. In an era where applicants apply to over twenty schools, neither the applicants nor the medical schools knows who wants to go where. The solution for the medical schools is the waitlist. Waitlisted applicants are expected to be extremely aggressive if they really want to go to that school. If an applicant does nothing, then it is assumed that he or she has been accepted at another school and doesn't care if he or she gets in or not. So, if you have been waitlisted, don't despair! Usually at least one-half of the class comes in from the waitlist! Just follow the recommendations below, and continue expressing your interest in the school.

Contact Your Interviewers
The first thing to do when you are told you have been waitlisted is to contact your interviewers, especially if your interview went well, and if he or she is a voting member of the admissions committee. At most schools, the interviewer acts as your advocate. This means that he or she is trying to sell you to the rest of the committee, telling them of your strong points and why you would make a good member of that particular school. It is in your best interests to write or e-mail your interviewer to tell him or her that you are genuinely interested in that school, and that you still consider it one of your top choices. Also, you might want to ask what other steps you can take. Some interviewers will ask you to write a letter to the admissions committee, others will ask that you write the dean, and some will tell you not to write at all. The interviewer will know the pulse of the committee best, so use him and ask! Continue contacting your interviewer every two or three weeks, increasing frequency as it gets later in the season.

Write the Dean
At some schools (Columbia), the Dean has total control over who gets in off the waiting list. At others (UCSF), it is completely done by formula, and the Dean doesn't really do much. But, you will really never know who has the real power, so just go straight to the top. This means, write the Dean! Often, the Dean will admit people whenever he or she feels like it. If you write, telling him or her that you are very interested in the school, then you will get more consideration. The Dean will see that his or her school was not simply another school, but one of your favorites. Once again, write and call more as the year progresses. Usually there is no movement off waiting lists until after May 15, the AAMC deadline for final class selection by medical schools. But after that date, get more aggressive and call every one or two weeks. By mid-june and july, some people call or write every day! This may be too much, but it shows that people are really showing their interest.

Get Extra Letters of Recommendation
Another avenue of attack you might try is getting extra letters of recommendation. You should always run things by your interviewer or call anonymously to the admissions office (stating that you are "A waitlisted student") before doing anything, but this has been recommended to me before. These extra rec letters should not be for things you did before applying. Those should have been sent with your secondaries. These rec letters should only be about things you have been doing in the time after turning in your AMCAS application in June. For instance, if you started volunteering in a hospice or working in a lab this year, you probably didn't get an opportunity to get a rec because you started after you handed in the AMCAS Primary. Well, now is your chance to get a rec in.

Ask for Another Interview
I have also heard of applicants requesting another interview. This is more irregular than the usual write/call method, but you might want to try it. I have heard it works especially well at Columbia. Schools will be impressed that you are ready to fly or drive back to the school to get reevaulated.

Use the Phone
May 15 is a universal deadline for the AAMC. By that date, each medical school should have accepted a number of students at least as large as the class. And, that is the day you must renounce all acceptances save one. After May 15, you may only hold one spot at a time, although you may remain waitlisted at as many as you wish. After this deadline, you should step up your attack and begin calling as well as writing. Call your interviewer, and start calling the Dean. Don't call the admissions office because they're just a bunch of administrators with no real power. As mid-June rolls around, start calling more often. Perhaps once every week or every three days, to see if there has been movement off the waiting list. And if you still haven't heard by mid-July, you can even start calling every day. There is the story of a student from San Diego who was on a three day drive to Chicago to start medical school, and every day of the trip, she called UCSD to see if there was a spot for her. On the second day of the trip, she was accepted! She turned around and drove home. One more day, and she would have been a student at the University of Chicago! So keep calling. People do get in!

Write a Letter of Intent
The ultimate expression of desire to attend a medical school is the "Letter of Intent." This letter essentially goes something like this.
Dear Dean Bigguy,
I would like to reaffirm that your medical school is my unequivocal number one choice. If accepted for entrance this fall, I guarantee that I will attend. I can think of no place I would rather spend the next four years of my life than at your medical school.

Sincerely,

Wana Gedin

There are many variations of this letter, but if you state you will go, and you get in, you must go! It is bad form not to mention immoral to lie about something like this. If a medical school finds out you wrote a letter such as the one above to more than one school, you may lose all of your acceptances! So DON'T LIE! You can change the letter to state "your medical school is one of my top choices" or something similar. This leaves you some recourse. But, if you say "I will attend if accepted," then you must go. If you don't, then don't ever think about going there for residency or a job in the future. Your credibility was shot when you lied to the Dean.
You can also get your premed advisor or another person to write a letter of intent for you. This is essentially the same, but it attaches a more important name (and larger credibility) to your desire. Same rules apply regarding lying. But, now the stakes are higher. If you destroy the credibility of your premed advisor, that is a serious problem. Be sure of your desires before you write a strong letter of intent.

Most every school continues to interview throughout the course of the application cycle. There is a January interview and I know the school will plan to have more interview dates if necessary to fill all of the class spots. Just because there are 80 that are accepted today does not mean that all 80 will accept those seats and enroll in next year's class. From my experience there have been people interviewing in the spring and getting spots. I know a couple years ago I was in an interview group in April and out of the 20 of us more than half are now apart of my class. This is not true every year but the sky isn't falling and there is still time. I think the above post is some great advice as to how approach a waitlist. I have also learned that calling every week to find out what position you are or just harassing the school's admissions staff is not a good thing. SO in short do not sit back and wait but do not pester the schools that you want to get into. Just pace yourself and hope for the best.

Have you heard of cases where early interviews get acceptances later on?

Thank you to all who replied!

Roseman's deposit and acceptance packet is due January 14th but my interview is on the 16th. All I know about the acceptance rate for my dream school if interviewed is ~30%. Only 90 seats for about 270+ interviews. But that number can drastically change depending on how many acceptances have been sent out. I am very aware of the message I would be sending to Roseman and by no means do I want to come off ungrateful. It was my first dental school interview and acceptance and I loved everything about the school (program, mission, faculty and students, facilities) except the price tag and location.

I will most likely be calling Roseman in Janaury to ask for an extension. The worse that can happen is they say no and I have to put down $1000 while I wait to hear back from other schools...right? >.<

I interview on January 9th. Roseman is one of my top schools, so to get an acceptance would be the ideal outcome.

Does anyone know how many seats are left in the entering class?

I also interview that day and hope to get in. Too bad it's after I put a deposit down at another school.
I doubt anyone knows the number of seats because the deadline for the deposit isn't until after the interview. Also people can switch after putting a deposit down like I will at another school if I get in here.

Well howdy friend! I am just curious about the numbers game; how many seats are left compared to how many are going to interview in the coming months. Either way, hoping for the best.

What school did you put a deposit on?

I haven't put the deposit down yet but will do so at LECOM unless I happen to get accepted to midwestern or USC before the end of the month, which is highly doubtful. I'm hoping there are enough seats left at Roseman come mid-January. I love the school, as I was there for there pre-dental day and their dental simulation clinic, and the cost doesn't matter since I was awarded an army scholarship.

Oh groovy and congrats! You might be able to call them and ask? Would not hurt.

Everyone on SDN has said that post December 1rst interview and acceptances become extremely difficult. That is why I was curious on the number of seats left. Roseman also interviews 80+ applicants per session. Very competitive.

Historically your chances of a post December 1st interview and acceptance ain't bad. I have heard Dr. Harman say in the past that he does keep some seats open for post Dec. 1st interviewees though whether that still happens or not I don't know.

For those of you that have already sent the acceptance packet to the school, did you send in the immunizations sections with it? The acceptance email states that you have to send all the papers within a 45 day period from acceptance day, but the immunization papers say that that section has to be completed within three months of the first day of attendance at Roseman. Not sure what to do, and the officers are closed today. Feedback would be greatly appreciated!

And merry christmas and a happy new year for everyone!

I called the office 2 days ago. Rebecca said you don't have to send in your immunization records yet and you have until January 14, 2015.

hi q.bee. I am flying in from Michigan and will be there at 5pm on Jan. 8th. I'm going to get a rental car if you need a ride.

Anyone else start apartment hunting? How goes it? I found a few resort-style places but Im still shopping around for price and close distance to the school. Not entirely sure how to go about actually getting an apartment while in another state and being too far to check out the place before hand.
Similar situation here! I'm hoping that once more people accept their offers, the fb page might take off a bit. That should make it easier to find potential roommates and apartment hunting tips!

i will be in the airport around that time .. definitely, we can split the cost pm me

You can do paperwork online to lock an apartment down. I would suggest a shorter lease in the event you hate it. Most of these luxury type apartments are pretty similar and managed by the same management companies.

I received an email for interview today and scheduled it for Jan. 23rd. Super excited!

I DID TOO!! congrats! jan 23rd at nooon for me.. what about you?
Mine is at noon, too. All the hotels nearby are booked. Got the one right by campus but $199/night. Where are you all staying?

I'll see you and janeausten there!! 🙂 im excited! yaa i looked up info for the hotels but now im debating whether to stay overnight or if i should fly there in the morning and return at night. im coming from los angeles so it might be doable.

It looks like rooms are booking fast! I called the hotel I stayed at last year (for an interview at Roseman), and they just told me that they only have deluxe rooms available for $169. Yikes!

Are you a female? If so we can share a room and hang out before the interview since I arrived at 7:15AM on Thursday (I know...cheapest flight). Btw, I'm from AZ.

I enjoyed meeting many of you today during today's interview tours. I hope you all get accepted, but then realistically that doesn't always happen. Still there is hope:

As far as to answer an earlier question about interveiwees and acceptees after Dec. 1st. I would say that at least half of my class were accepted after December 1st. I know that my interview day there was 20 of us and 18 of us our here. Now that doesn't mean that will happen this year but if they are still interviewing there are still spots and you just have to hope for the best. Also I have a couple of classmates that interviewed in september and october that didn't get accepted until May. So good luck.

Hi. Ya It was really great opportunity to see the school. It was great and really impressed by the facility that roseman had. I was surprised that there were about 100 ppl there to interview today. there is another one coming up this late Jan and if there are another 100 ppl to interview, then seems like it is going to be very competitive year. well hope for the best and thank you for your help. your advise and guidance are so great!

Thanks for the tour, it was great to finally put a face finally to pwnisher! All I have to say is that I was thoroughly impressed with the program and the students that helped us understand the atmosphere and structure of Roseman. Dr. HARMONS presentation was top notch and the effort put forth was clearly evident. Hope to see you guys in the fall of all goes well!

I interviewed on January 9th in the morning group. The interview was, by far, the most relaxed process that I have ever experienced. It was evident that not only does the staff believe in the education and life long colleague model, but so do the students. Meeting some of the potential classmates (if all goes well) was a blast! Hopefully we all hear good news.

Any word on when the next acceptances will go out?

Hi guys,

Admissions said that the first round of acceptances have a deadline of January 16th. Hard deadline. Roseman has at least one more interview session later in January. My guess is February or so. That is purely speculative.

Last year they sent out acceptances on jan 16. No idea if last year first round of acceptance was also jan 16; that seems really late (they got like what? 45 days?). I hope they aim for this week X_X
