Congrats everyone!! feel free to ask any questions! I will try my best to answer as efficiently as possible. Fellow touro students are also welcome to chime in!

Do you know what type of clinical experience the staff projects you guys to be able to see?

So, since I am a D1, we don't get much interaction with staff on this topic. However, I have personally talked to D3's who are in clinic and they are saying that by the time my class gets to clinic it will be full and we won't have any issues of patient shortage. (Just want to say that I am not positive on how many patients they are currently seeing). Driving to school though, I always see patients coming in and out. Westchester county has a VERY high population and since our clinic opened not too long ago, it does take time for people to know about our dental clinic. As far as clinical experience on different types of procedures, same thing. As patients start coming in, you will be exposed to all kinds of procedures, mainly because of the population size here. I think a D3 can answer this question better! So I will ask around and come back to you 🙂

I also just want to mention that I am genuinely happy here at Touro. I'm not saying this because I'm a student here. This account is anonymous and quite frankly I'm not scared to speak my mind. We have great faculty and staff, and especially our Dean. They are all truly accommodating and want us to learn. They do not allow any shortcuts and I really appreciate that. I really do feel like they want us to become successful dentists and to make sure our patient's receive the best work possible. I have friends in other dental schools and when I compare my work with them, I immediately am able to point out their mistakes. Why? Because that is how they teach you here. I think that is a huge plus and if I'm paying +400K, I want to make sure I go somewhere where I am taught the right steps of dentistry.

I live around Touro and did notice different advertisements as far north as peekskill and obviously around the school area as well. Do you know if they would allow you to schedule your own patients?

Yes, you can recruit your own patients! When we started school, during orientation, many D3's approached us with their business cards so we could book an appointment with them for our dental needs!

Hi! I have a question, the +400k that you mentioned includes your living expenses or just tuition? I thought tuition was around 70k a year with fees included? Thank you!

400k includes everything! tuition is around 55k +materials. touro actually has one of the cheaper tuitions compared to other private schools in NY

THE cheapest tuition compared to all other private NY dental schools! (And 6th cheapest in the nation for all private dental schools)

Can you tell me about housing? I’m really leaning towards touro but living cost kind of drags me out of it

Very expensive, idk what students here do, but I know that can can prob expect to commute (20 min plus) and expect to pay 1500+ for rent, probably for a studio.

Where do most students live? I was accepted on the 3rd and I've been looking at some housing options and they are so expensive :vomit::vomit::vomit:

Try looking in yonkers or peekskill for apartments. If not there then something near the Taconic parkway exits because that is the preferred road you will want to commute with. Avoid anywhere in southern westchester where you have to use the sawmill parkway because that road is a death trap and constantly closes during inclement weather. I have lived in Westchester my entire life, I can try to help out with information that I know.

Thanks. Is it pretty much impossible to find a place that is under 1500 that allows cats?

That's a good question, I'm sure there are apartments that would allow it or ask for some type of fee/deposit. One interesting thing about the housing situation over here that you may notice is that there is a mix between apartments and larger houses that are divided into units, so depending on where you land you might be dealing directly with the landowner/landlord or an apartment complex - which if it is the former, I'm sure you would be able to negotiate something. Keep in mind that if you rent from a landowner and let them know that you are a good renter (on time, quiet, etc, won't break things/cause trouble) then it could work to your advantage to have the cats - lots of awful tenants around here lol.

Yes, it is expensive unfortunately. Most students live in Talleyrand (in Tarrytown), Ridgeview or Avalon Green (in Elmsford), and then random houses/apts in white plains. I strongly recommend living close to school your first two years. It will be expensive, but it will save you so much commute time and you have the option to go back home during lunch or anytime during the day. But I will say there are quite a number of people in my class that commute from far away.

How much time do you say you see D1 and D2 on the campus during the day, like from 8-4pm or more extended times? How many times have you gone down the street to wendys or applebees lol

D1s and D2s are on campus for a very large part of the day.... and yes that Wendys & Applebees are frequented a lot LOL. lots of other local places to dine though! I'm a big fan of grabbing a slice @ Dom's pizza down the road 🙂

I never went to dom's for pizza, but know a lot of ppl who have been there. Have you tried swadee house of thai, it's like 5 minutes north in thornwood, a small spot, but pretty ok. Do you know how late people usually stay in pre-clinical sim lab after classes? The reason i ask is because i try to visualize what a full schedule would look like + commute times (which is obv a killer)

What’s a good website for rentals around the area? Craigslist seems sparse and Zillow is okay. Any local ones everyone uses? Or is it more of a drive around and look for “for rent” type deal?

Ugh I’m so excited about the variety of food options. It’s gonna be amazing!!

Let me get back to you on what is the best method to look, i know a bunch of ppl who rent houses out, but have no idea how they advertise lol.

If you aren't from the tri-state area the pizza and bread here is the best. The water has a certain mineral composition that let's it rise a certain way and gives a good taste and consistency that you can't find elsewhere, so start planning out an exercise regiment lol.

Hi everyone! Congrats on getting into Touro 🙂 I'm a junior in college right now and Touro is my #1 choice for Dental school, after having spoken to current students and seeing all the cool things possible at Touro. With that being said, I am so nervous for the application season to start up - if everyone that interviewed/got accepted could share their stats and some advice for my personal statement/interview, that would be so appreciated.

My status on AADSAS says application comeplete while other schools list under review. I submitted my apps on August but does this mean the school hasn’t even looked at my application yet?

I just got this email:

"Thank you for your recent application to the Touro College of Dental Medicine at NYMC. The Committee for Admissions has completed a careful review of your credentials. At this time your application has been placed "on hold". TCDM conducts interviews from the October through the end of February. Applications placed on hold may be reviewed again up until February. You will be immediately notified by email of any changes to the status of your application, and therefore request you do not call the Office of Admissions requesting this information."

Is this a soft rejection? 🙁

I had this exact email sent to me back on October 29th. I thought it was basically a soft rejection as well. But I just got an interview today so who knows! don't loose hope yet 😉

I dont necessarily think it is! Don't lose hope. My friend got this back in October but I think they sent it to her because she hasn't finished her anatomy lecture and lab yet. They may have sent you that if you still have pending classes. Please note since that email, my friend has not received an invitation yet!

Aw, thank you! I hope your friend gets an interview soon :3

Hi all,
Good luck to everyone.
For those who are accepted/already attending at Touro.
Are you willing to share your interview experience?
How does the school view applicants with mostly research background?
Should I focus my discussions on research related discussions during the interview?

Congrats & best of luck. I wonder what dates are available. I know they meet people every Wednesday.

Thanks!! And yes, that is correct; they only conduct interviews on Wednesdays. In my invitation email it said that they were currently inviting applicants to interview for the end of January.

I have a question for the current Touro students. I would like to know about the available scholarships. Where can I get some info from?

Any post- December interviewee’s (dec 5th to be exact) hear back yet? Jason Demaio said 7-10 days and it’s been 7 and I’m anxious lmao

Interviewing here on December 19th. I heard that they're interviewing for seats and not the waitlist, can anyone confirm or deny? I would be surprised if you could just get a seat this late. Also heard that they respond pretty fast, like in a week or two.
They started interviewing first week of November and about 1 day per week so seats are definitely open, though the groups were big.

Also curious about scholarships if anyone knows anything about it?

my group really wasn't that big, I would say there was about 10-12 of us. I interviewed first week of December

Anyone interviewed post dec 3rd accepted yet?
Nope still waiting. Idk if you were in my interview group I was the first post December group to interview two days after the 3rd. But I called margarita today and she said it could take up to three weeks.. and Im mad upset because Jason told us hell get a decision to us in 7-10 days BC since the decision day fell on the 3rd this year that first group being interviewed after the December 1st date .. we would be in consideration with all the people who interviewed prior to December first, which isn’t many because they started interviews in November but still. I got my email notification to interview way back in August 10th and there just wasn’t any space for me to interview in november so I had to choose December 5th. I’m very frustrated but there’s literally nothing I can do so lol ... when did you interview?
