She’s not just the messenger. She is the manager of student admissions. She also is not the only African American on the admissions committee.
But sure, racism.
It's crazy that you're going to be my colleague one day. Chill, man I'm mostly pissed that it said I withdrew from the application as well as the horrible correspondence on their part. The suspicion or racism was just icing on the cake, hence it's addition to my orginal post at the very end. Lol white people are funny. They live in their own little perfect world where blacks are stupid liars who never experience racism, ever. That's besides the point.
WHY WAS MY APPLICATION REMOVED FROM CONSIDERATION UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES I DESCRIBED?

I agreed with you that the decision was unlikely to be based on racism. But he presented you with articles about past racism associated with this school, and you came back with "Nah" like it never existed. If that was your respond, you better off not commenting because it make you look ignorant.
Ok, so then we agree. Not racist. Cool.

Just because something is "unlikely" doesn't mean it's impossible. @King Gliiits clearly stated "An article from 2014 states a possible reason why..." He didn't say racism was the exact reason why his application was withdrawn, but just a possible reason based on past racism associated with the admission committee of this school.

I honestly believe your application was withdrawn because they genuinely thought you were not interested in coming to this school.

Marquette also called me and ask me the same question and ultimately withdrew my application in February because I did not get back to them after the December call

Hmmm interesting. I really don't like this method because its clearly not official, whatsoever. Sure, I don't want to go to school @ Colorado unless they knock off like 200k from the tuition but I would have appreciated an actual offer that I could have formally declined/accepted. Its just weird how the decision to pull me from consideration was determined by 1) the tone of my voice/what i said when she called me one morning and 2) the lack of correspondence on my part when it was her duty to get a hold of me (which she promised.. but i don't even remember her calling me after the 1st time or a single followup email)

I get where you're coming from. I just didn't agree with your initial post that it was probably due to racism. I am not going to ignore that there is no racism at all at the school but they have come a long way from that and there is still a ways to go. What you read in the article also happens at multiple dental schools as well as sexism and many isms. This is not an excuse though.

In my opinion, I think they withdrew consideration because they showed interest in you by calling you but you never called them to reciprocate.
The way I saw my withdrawn application from Marquette is that I am just one student out of 1000+ that applied. Marquette also has a waitlist with students bagging on the door for a chance so they had the right to withdraw my application since I quite frankly didn't call them.

Colorado had a waitlist since around late January/early February and they just accepted multiple students off the waitlist mid last month. I helped a couple students write letters of intent/interest. Crystal and Dr. Mediavilla were probably getting swamped with letters of interest/intent from many students who desperately wanted to go here. Many of those students on the waitlist would find the position you were in unfair.

Bare in mind also that the call they gave you to gauge your interest does not automatically mean they would accept you. It is just to see if you should be added on the pile of students to consider depending on a multitude of factor (people declining offers, waitlist movement, etc). I know someone off DAT Bootcamp facebook group who UCSF asked if they were still interested and they said yes and ultimately got a rejection email.

Anyways, hopefully you are happy with whichever school you decide to go to. There are a lot of things that you don't like about the admissions process and a lot of things that I don't like as well. But I think we should take the time to listen to each other/both sides. Crystal is a huge advocate for students and diversity and hopefully from the conversation you had with her you saw that it may of just been a case of miscommunication or something else but not racism.

Thoughtful and beautifully written. The future of dentistry need more people with communication skills like you.

Hmm I really appreciate your response.. I never even thought about the kids on the waitlist.. Admittedly, its a little selfish of me to pursue this especially considering I've decided on my school. I guess I was just angry and hurt lol... I really want to stress that Im actually usually the last one to implicate racism in any given situation (because im blessed and have had an easy life) but i guess I was just searching for any explanation

Tbh yall I didn't know that calling to gauge your interest was used in the admissions process and quite commonplace. In fact, one of my buddies from undergrad who's going to the same dental school as me also seemed surprised and almost offended for me when I told him. Thinking about the conversation I had with this guy bothered me for months and me seeing the "withdrew before action" on AADSAS was the tipping point

I think I was just shocked but I'm good now. This is really no big deal and I'm going to move on

Maybe someone can shed some light for me. I interviewed the first week that Colorado held interviews and still haven’t heard one thing. No waitlist, no reject, nothing. I’ve sent two different LOIs and both times have been told: “thank you, it will be added to your file, you are still being considered”. Can anyone explain to me why I haven’t heard anything this late in the game? If it were a silent reject, would they say I’m still being considered? I personally think that if they were truly interested they would wait list me and if they weren’t they would reject me. I’d love to just know one way or the other. Talk about a long wait since last June! I love a good tease as much as the next guy...but come on! Any opinions are welcome

I am in the same boat after interviewing in August.

I am in the same position as the both of you. I literally have been thinking the same thing that "if they were truly interested they would wait list me and if they weren’t they would reject me." I couldn't take being the quiet and patient applicant anymore after waiting 8+ months. By May, I finally sent a LOI and received the same reply. I sent another e-mail a week later asking about my status. I received a reply on 5/21 stating "Technically while you are not currently on the alternate, we are still considering your application." I called to get more info and this is what I understood from the conversation...I am still being considered but not on the waitlist...At any point people can be added and taken off of the waitlist...it is better to be on the waitlist than my limbo status...the class is currently full, but a spot could open at any point. So, basically the waiting game continues!
