This could be incorrect but when I got waitlisted the email said the class was full as of now

This doesn't sound good for those of us that have yet to receive anything... Could anyone check the Facebook group to see the headcount by any chance?

Just found out the OOS tuition is 520k Vs. the instate at 360k, anyone know why these numbers are so different?

It’s cause UW raised their tuition so much :/ in state tuition is as high as out of state for a lot of schools, which kind of sucks for those of us in state

Yeah for sure. We are currently in ECI right now. It's pretty much just an overall introduction to dentistry. We learn about general concepts of dentistry like how to take an impression, make an athletic guard, and do a dental exam. We also do clinic rotations in the afternoons where we assist in the perio, restorative, and geriatric clinics. It's pretty fun because you get patient exposure in the first week. Half our time is in the anatomy labs doing head and neck anatomy. It's nice because the anatomy is pretty intensive but the first semester is pass fail so it's totally doable. It's a nice acclimation period before the bulk of dental school starts in the fall.

As far as my likes and dislikes go, I'm so fresh that's it's hard to say. I've liked everything so far. It hasn't been stressful and my class is awesome. It seems like a lot of the first semester is getting to know your class and getting your feet wet in dentistry.

I have heard that That first summer semester is a waste of time and just a way to get more tuition out. now that you a bit further along do you still think it was a good use of time and money?

Love the username.

I know some people who loved ECI and some people that really didn't like it. For me, a lot of it felt like they wanted to make sure we felt like a dentist before we started shifting to almost entirely books in the fall. So a lot of our exercises were a little pointless because we won't use that information for another couple years and we will learn it all again in specific courses later on. It was pass/fail which was nice, because it was a low pressure quarter to get to know classmates without a lot of competition. We did head and neck anatomy which I thought was beneficial because it made dental references in our foundation courses later on make sense. I thought a lot of our lectures were good but not necessary... like they probably could have just given us a pamphlet with the same information and saved us the tuition. In the end it was fun, I wish I could go back, but at the same time some of it seemed forced. In the end I'm glad that we had it. Wish we practiced waxing more.

Your username hints that you may possibly enjoy lifting.. donno if you're from UW but the IMA is awesome. The weight room is usually empty in the morning and it's huge!

If you’ve been waitlisted, when do people typically start hearing back? Is it a steady trickle or is there a point where a lot of people start to hear back at once?

I would describe it in clusters. I'm not sure when the deadlines are for people to accept their seat but after each wave there are usually a few spots that open up.

Still at "invited to interview"... Have they put together a full waitlist yet?

They are still forming a waitlist and won't have a "top ten" until mid-march...which is about now haha apparently it is somewhat complicated due to the RIDE program / if there is an opening in the RIDE program, they would have to involve another committee

There are 62 students on FB right now (excluding moderators). So I'm guessing the class is either full (few people probably don't have FB) or has at most 2 spots left.

Hi,
I hope it's okay that I post this here!
I am currently applying to UWSOD, and I was wondering if anyone had any info on the pre-doctoral program. It's one of the essay questions in the AADSAS application, and I am a little confused about it.
The question is "What about the University of Washington School of Dentistry’s predoctoral program aligns with your career and/or personal goals and motivates your desire to apply?". I'm confused because I thought DDS is doctoral, and the only thing on google is predoctoral in perio, so I'm not sure if it's the same.
Thanks 🙂

pre-doc is just another way of saying dental school! So the question is essentially asking "What about the University of Washington School of Dentistry’s DDS program aligns with your career and/or personal goals and motivates your desire to apply?"

Hope this helps!
