You're right, USC is expensive. But that 500k won't be for me since I live 15 mins away from USC so I'll be saving on living expenses. I'd consider it but won't drop it in a heartbeat. Between USC's laidback atmosphere vs UNLV's gunner central and people like you, USC's excellent alumni base and all the other prestige that comes with being a USC alum, family and friends around the area. Don't forget about the Cali weather and beaches, the eye candies at USC campus itself ZOMG. Quality over quantity for me. Fun over prunes. PBL over traditional. I mean UNLV does have strip clubs and casinos I guess which are fun. I go to Vegas with my friends a lot for the clubs and I think it's pretty distracting and tempting having those places close by, you know especially when you can use cash acquired by student loans to "double up" in the casinos lol. By the way, I don't see you bombarding other schools with similar costs such as the MWU's. Seems like you got a personal beef with USC though just saying lol.
Don't go to USC they said, it's expensive they said...don't consider all other factors only expenses they said.
so someone who cares about the debt load and future certainty like me is a gunner? and people who don't care about the debt are laid back and good? Since I care about debt so much I dont even think of specializing (which returns to point one, no need to gun if i dont want to specialize)
yes, congratulations, your debt is now cut to 400k$ which is a bit doable with u manage to live for free and breathe air for food (or parent-sponsored food and rent)
your recreational reasons of USC and UNLV are just ridiculous and lame. I am sure dental students will have super sharp focus to study and don't get distracted by hot/dry weather, casino, strippers, hot girls, beaches, etc.
and you are right, a lot of other schools have similar but still lower cost (50-60k lower, factor in living expense), which is still better than USC. but since I only attend MWU-AZ and USC I can only state the facts for these particular schools. only at USC, I see
1. No dentist faculty present during the interview due to short of staff. yea they can't manage to hire enough staff with that dough. However, the administrators are really nice. Other schools, dentist faculties carry out interview (at least for traditional interview and group interview)
2. the acceptance email from USC I receive is written by a JD. really? they uses lawyers to send emails now without calls. while schools i heard back from have dentist faculty to call and congratulate then the schools send me an official letter through mail. USC didn't even send me the official letter until I asked them this when they informed me they rescinded my acceptance.
3. and PBL, they charge you top dollars and don't even have the alive dentist faculty to teach you. PBL, hopefully you know, basically just means study by yourself. Sorry, i rather do traditional lecture (thats how I thrive in undergrad) and group study with my classmates rather than PBL.
4. too much emphasis on football team and reputation. sorry, I didn't even know of USC when I was still in NorCal.
Yes, when you graduate and you mention your a Trojan dental grad, people will just know how much debt is on your head at a very very pricey institution. not necessarily the skills. And have fun staying in California, treating MediCal patients and pay back your debt because only in Socal, the USC reputation is popular (which I still don't know why)
as you probably know, the prestige culture of dental education does not exist (except good school place more people in specialty) as long as you want to be a GP and a school can give you sufficient clinical skills to be a GP, all schools are technically the same. Thats why some prestigious dental schools closed down before (Emory, Loyola, Georgetown, etc)
