Have fun everyone! Let today be a happy one because we finally find out! :hardy:

Although I would hate opening an envelope in front of my whole class, I would prefer it to going to work again today at the STD clinic in health department and only taking a few minutes to check where I matched. This is NOT what I dreamed my match day would be like. BUT I'm still excited to find out.
I don't wanna go to work today!!!👎 👎

Heh, this isn't what I dreamed my Match day would be like, either. 😉

Only a few more minutes for you all waiting!!!

Haha...HOLY ****!!!! It's MATCH DAY!!!!!!! It's finally here! Good luck everyone! 👍 😀

Only two more years for me...😳 I can't wait.

Good luck everyone!! All that hard work is paying off. 😀

I have approximately 1100 days to go. Hey, that's only 100 days longer than Kennedy's presidency.

Only 730 days left according to the countdown timer on my comp. 2nd year has flown by and I can only hope that trend continues through 3rd and 4th year.

You and me both, man. Ill be waiting it out with you. Until then, I have 85 days till Ill be sitting through big Step 1... :scared:

Edit: Lol, were totally hijacking this thread, but screw it! Congrats all future EM residents!! 🙂

So...I'm going to bed right now, but is anyone going to be up really late tonight to help keep me entertained and awake (like any of you who are celebrating your news)...

Oh ya...for those of you out there...I had an exam question that I wanted to completely argue, but they said the doc wouldn't change his answer. Here's the question...let me know what you think.

What is the first thing you would do when a patient comes into the emergency room?

My answer...assess and see if the patient is stable or unstable
His answer...Do a thorough History

I can see what he is thinking...but I'm thinking if a person needs oxygen, isn't that more important than asking them about their past?

Any ideas on why he wouldn't accept both answers (seems how you would probably do both at the same time)?

Unless the patient is unresponsive and needs to be defibrillated, it's airway, airway, airway. The history is NOT the first thing, and your professor is wrong. This is coming from an active, board-eligible EM physician. Tell your professor that, if he gave that answer in his oral exam for EM board certification, he would fail.

It's a poorly-worded question, but it's ABC's all the way, all the time. Now, if the patient is talking to you, you know that 1. the airway is patent 2. they're breathing and 3. the circulation is enough to get blood to the brain, and they can tell you what happened - but the first thing is the ABC's.

Hell, PM me for my email, and give me the question and the email for your professor, and I'll tell him.

I can see it now, physician talking to a patient just brought in by EMS who is coding:

"Sir? Sir? What brings you in today? Sir? Well . . . if you're not gonna tell me what's wrong then we just can't help you."

BSI for me buddy and I. 😀 😉

I can't wait. I am seeing "300" tonight.

Awesome flick!! I saw it on opening night - the only movie I've seen in a very long time that I would say is worth the money to see in the theatre..

Of course, it will also be awesome on my HDTV when it comes to DVD... I'm buying that baby!

Haha...holy shiznet. Our names are on the website already as the new incoming class. So surreal for me to see it. Man it's been a long 5 year process (including my post bac program). Every sacrifice has been well worth it. 😀

Your names AND your pictures are already up on the Cincy website! Pretty cool that so many here were able to match there and it sounds like you'll have a great class. I have even met the 2 people from dook and liked them both, which is saying quite alot given that I am from UNC j/k 😉

Congrats to you guys who matched. We got an AWESOME class here at U of A!

Yargh - if I could ensure that I would actually be working with you guys, I might take the straight-EM advice and do an EM residency now that I'm board eligible for pediatrics. And then do pedi EM in the community and rock the hiz-ouse.

But adults are smelly.

I still envy all ya'll just starting out. Life is so open...

Do what you want to do. Don't do what you should do - unless the suckage is part of the path to what you want. Then just suck it up and deal.

Them's my words of wisdom.

This won't happen again.

Eventually most EM residents do internal medicine and the house of god starts to really make sense.

That's what I kept telling my section director, but she said that he told her that he stressed that point in lecture, so he won't change it. A bunch of BS I tell ya. I wish he would be at our final tomorrow so I could ask him personally what his thought processes were.

:meanie: That same thing was running through my head today.

Wow..that must be why they wait so long to tell you where you are going...so that they have time to get their publicized documents ready.

So..prof in question does have an email account on our list...maybe I'll just ask him nicely for an explanation. I obviously skipped the lectures where he stressed this point, so I need the explanation now. (even those that were there for his lectures missed that question)

You got one of our students.

McNinja what school? We got a phenomenal class. Is the person from your school a good person? I think you are from Tenn right.. then i know the person.

Yeah esp when what you teach is wrong..

I wrote him a respectable email asking him about it. Of course I got an automatic response of "I will be out of the office through March 18." It's as though he's telling us "forget what you learned prior to this, just listen to me and you will be rewarded with higher grades." I'll keep you updated if/when I get an answer.

So after 1 day, my NCAA bracket is already in the trash can! Just happy that UNC advanced and dook lost in the first round!!! 😀

I actually guessed 14 of the 16 correctly...my luck will change quickly I'm sure.

In short, answer was if a patient comes in you have to start the H&P to see if they are stable or unstable.

Always happy to see dook lose in my book!

Maybe a poll should be started...how many that got match results have hangovers. 😀

I don't get why I can't sleep in s/p drinking, I don't even get headaches.

It takes a lot for me to get a hangover...but it does happen on rare occasions. If anything, I wake up ready to go most of the time. Even when I do have the rare hangover, it can manifest as still feeling tipsy, and who doesn't like that? hahaha

6 days to miami.

How can your bracket be in the trash? All the favorites advanced, so unless you had Duke winning it all you should be OK. Being from UNC though I bet you are glad Duke lost, even if it means your bracket is trashed.

What is worst for me is that not only don't I sleep late, I actually will wake up at 4 am if I have more than 2 drinks and won't be able to fall back asleep.

I picked alot of upsets that didn't pan out. I even had dook going to the Sweet 16 because I was convinced that Coach K was going to get his guys ready enough to win 2 games. Even though I think he is pure evil, he's a pretty darn good coach and I'm surprised they lost (very glad I'm wrong however).

I kept drinking and drinking last night but wasn't able to get as drunk as I would have liked. Maybe I've developed tolerance over the last couple weeks.
