The 4 hour timer for online traffic school sucks...

I made an illegal U-turn at an intersection that up to then always allowed U-turns. After they put up the sign, people are making legal U-turns in a place that is 10 times more dangerous...stupid 🙄

I do too. I went yesterday 🙁 I had a filling that fell out, so I had to go, then he decided to do xrays and found a new cavity...happy to have the lidocaine shots!!!

Yeah, but then you (or at least I) get the drool. And that lovely sensation when eating not-quite-long-enough after the lido and seeing half chewed food on your shirt.

That you didn't know was there until you looked.

Last time I had a cavity it was shallow enough that I didn't need lido. So much nicer.

Yes...I actually have about a 20-min drive from the dr to my parents' house, so I had a mirror to use the whole time. Plus, I didn't eat for an hour, and by then it had started to wear off enough to feel something if it were present. 🙂

My gf and I have been researching online. We can't head out there until around May 10th. I think we are going to rent for now since we may need to move to another part of the area after a year depending on if she gets into pharmacy school and which one.

Are you buying or renting, and are you headed out there anytime soon?

Just got the housing info today. Will be very helpful in finding a place. I still haven't decided whether to buy or rent yet. I know it's a "buyer's" market right now, but there's no telling where it will head. I have to make decisions right now as if I'm going to be leaving in 4 years...so this may influence whether I buy or not. It's a toss up right now. If I do rent...I'd love to get a nice flat/loft. I know most of them are downtown, but I know it's not the most desireable area to live. Otherwise it may be Hyde Park, Mt. Adams, or Clifton. I imagine there are lofts in these areas also.

Yeah, the housing info was great. I'm probably going to check out some more areas just because of it. We were also planning to look in Northern KY too because when I rotated there, that seemed to be where a lot of the new housing was being built, and we would like to find a newer building. The New Port and Covington area are nice places down there.

Ultimately, I'm going to check out a bunch of areas to see if I find what I want. I've moved every year over the last 5 years, and I plan on avoiding this during residency.

yes dont move.. you wont have the time and the free time you have you dont want to waste by moving from one place to another.

good luck guys.. finding a new place to live is fun I think..

That's why I'm hoping to find a beautiful spacious loft style apartment for a cheap price. 😀

Try finding a 3BR/2BA with family room or finished basement with back yard in a good school district.

Agony ...

I had to help the fiance find a new apartment this week. The original plan was for me to Match up in his town and then move in with him, but that was just not what happened. Since his roommate moved out he's been paying the 2-bedroom rent on his own and it was okay for a few months but not for the next year. So, new apartment it is. Fortunately, we were able to find him a smaller place (and half the cost) in the same building. We love this building, and I'm glad he can stay. I just wish I had been able to move in here with him instead of staying in my med school apartment.

I'll cheer up eventually. Just feeling my own little pity party tonight. Again.

Funny, we've moved the fiance every year of his residency. He was in a great place his first year, however, they switched from apartments to buy-your-own condo and wanted $190,000 for his 1-bedroom place, so he moved in with a friend in a nice 2-bedroom apartment. And now he has to move again b/c his roommate went crazy moved out and I'm not here to split the rent with him. Moving during residency is possible, but it sucks.

Keep your head up girl. the journey is where the satisfaction comes. I know this was a huge disappointment but in time things will work out. ive had my share as well.

If you can't find that around Buffalo, you either haven't looked, or you have the WRONG realtor.

Look in Hamburg, the Town of Tonawanda, Cheektowaga, and West Seneca. Orchard Park, Lancaster, and Amherst will be out of your price range. And all of the places are EASY commutes - EVERY DAY - to where you need to be. All of those school districts - Kenmore, Tonawanda, Frontier, Hamburg, Cheektowaga, Maryvale, West Seneca, a few others I forgot - do a fine job. City of Buffalo schools are suffering badly.

Hell, the street I grew up on might have something right now that fits into what you need for a price you can afford.

edit: as I'm looking, there are even houses in Amherst you can afford. Virtually every house in western New York has a basement, so a large number of houses will have a finished basement. The only ones without cellars (which is what people call the "basement" in Buffalo) are beach houses that aren't meant to be lived in year-round. Likewise, outside the city, every house will have a backyard.

Yep my bud went up there. housing is DIRT cheap..

I found a place today, signed a reservation and everything.

Then I went to a basketball game.

It was nice, as you can see, good seats, good game, good ending. What else could you want from a $4 ticket?

Hey Dr. Will... if you decide to live downtown, I'll do the same! Maybe we can start the trend and get more UC residents to move downtown 😛 I've been looking online for potential places to buy, and have been tempted by a lot of cute Tudor style houses, but I think it'll be unrealistic for me to maintain a house. Unfortunately, I haven't found any condos that I like yet...

Anyhow, the real search won't happen till I get back from abroad in May...

Some of the places downtown look nice. Too bad we have 2 dogs, otherwise it would be an option for me too.

I'm down! I really like the idea of a loft downtown. I'm very likely not going to buy right off the bat anyways. As long as we avoid over the rhine, right?

Oh and I was looking at the GME info from the website, and I'm probably jumping the gun on this one since we don't have our info yet, but any idea if we get a book allowance or anything of the sort?

I want to say it's a $250 one time book allowance. It wasn't all that much from what I remember...

That's it? There goes the idea of getting me a spiffy new PDA 🙁

Yep, I'm going to try to make my Treo last as long as possible.

Buffalo used to give $250/yr + either give you a PDA, or $200. The PDA allowance is gone but the yearly went up. Still don't know by how much. I want a Treo bad.

You guys don't want to see my educational allowance for CMC next year.... 😉

On another note, basketball is pretty good tonight. Kansas won a close one and Tennessee is leading THE Ohio State University right now, which makes me happy. I normally hate the Vols, but hoping they win tonight.

I know what it is since I ranked it high, by far the sweetest of all. I'd buy a new laptop every year! *jealous* 😀

Actually, they give you that much because each class takes a trip for "CME" every year and the trip is paid for out of that money, so it really isn't that high in the end. Good thing too because I couldn't spend that much money on books each year and I'm a serious book junkie!

I think the interns usually go to a Wilderness medicine conferance, the 2nd years to SAEM, and 3rd years to ACEP.

I see, so the trip is included in that. It's still pretty sweet despite that.

There really is a lot to do with starting residency. I still have to get my vacation request in. Hoping to coordinate with my gf...who knows if that'll work but I'll beg, plead, and do dishes for a month. 😀

We get cool flight suits...that trumps everything! 😀

I hope I get my two vacation requests, one involves a big date in my life...🙂

The perks of a community program! 😛

Hey, I'm just excited about the daily free lunches and free bottled water and diet cokes in the doctor's lounge! I'm pretty easy to please in the end.... 😉

Tennessee is up 34-20 on THE Ohio State University. Go Vols!!!!

As long as it isn't in october...cuz I have a feeling that if you wrote this on the explanation thingy at the bottom, your reason beats mine out. 👍 (assuming I'm right in my assumptions 😀 )

That big one will be in the first half of April 😀

That free lunch buffet thing was sweet too. What is the name of the cafe worker there? She was cool. Man, be careful with it though, I saw myself gaining 100 pounds if I ended up there.

Btw Hawk, looks like a Cinci guy I met while I was up there matched at Carolinas too...very cool laid back guy!

I may develop a taste for that Skyline chilli. I know they have it at the children's hospital.

Kinda funny how all that works out. Turns out I met one of our fellow 'Natti mates while rotating out at jacobi. And I recognize one of the girls with us from my interview day.

It is pretty good stuff! The worst patient was the patient that came in vomiting after drinking and eating a ton of Skyline. :scared:

SoCute...you've been MIA. You aren't sharing something with us.

Oh yeah, plus Dad's been sick (diverticulitis), mom's having surgery, and sis has had two episodes of angioedema in the last two weeks.
