You know...I woke up this morning and thought about how truly excited I am to start residency. I haven't been this pumped up about medicine in I don't know how long. I think this may be why I'm more dissapointed with my sub-i experience as opposed to being angry I have to be there. 👍

Yes...I'm a freakin nerd for saying this by the way.

Haha, don't worry, I felt the same way last night. I was about to put in "The Departed" into the DVD player (best movie I've seen in a while) when I saw the Cinci mini-DVD they gave us on interview day, so I watched it and got pumped up about starting. I can't wait to fly with Air Care!

Anyway, I'm at Tampa International to fly up to the tropical city of Minneapolis for a funeral. 🙁

Sorry to hear that SG. Safe flying.

Thanks guys. It was my grandmother who passed away. She lived a long life of 93 years.

So, I love my family and really consider myself lucky to have them, but THEY DRIVE ME CRAZY.

Ok, so I'm with you at the beginning and the end, but that part in the middle I am not with.
One of my family members isn't coming to graduation because there is an annual golf tournament that weekend. I was actually asked if graduation could be moved. With a straight face.

Vacation for Easter weekend.

Example of a typical conversation with my mother:

To set the scene, we are riding in the car back home after she and my dad picked me up at the airport. My mom told me about some neighbors who are dropping by the next day. A few minutes of silence pass and then all of a sudden -
Mom: Can you imagine hiding in barns from the Nazis?
Me: Um, no.
Mom: (something along these same lines)
Me: Ok, Mom, where is this coming from?
Mom: Oh, this book I'm reading about a boy who hid from the Nazis in Poland.

The next day, after our neighbors leave -
Mom: Can you imagine him hiding in barns?
Me: Huh?
Mom: (Finally fills me in on the fact that this neighbor is the one who WROTE the book and is a Holocaust survivor). I told you that yesterday!

(Uh, no, Mom, you didn't)

Have you read the parent stuff in pre-allo? Some of it is a riot.
"so, after you take your cat test, you're a doctor, right?"

My mother was telling me that I have to come up there for Thanksgiving, regardless of residency status. I told her that I don't get to pick my holidays, but she said she would give them a call if I wanted her to.

I was tempted, but then realized that I would get yelled at by my PD if that happened.

Wooohooo! What is she, like 17, now? 😉

Happy birthday Socute!

Working on our class yearbook. Man...I involve myself in too much sometimes.

Your class has a "yearbook?" Is it like high school where you write cheesy things in the back and sign your name with things like BFF?

Oh yeah, GO GATORS!

My mother had similar aspirations when I was an intern. And, um, yeah, I got vacation when I got vacation. Basically, I had to tell my parents that the price I/they paid for my doctohood was that I had no choices for three years. When my parents said that was b#ll****, I told them, 'Welcome to medicine!'

Eventually they got the picture. Don't worry too much - parents are so proud that their kids are doctors that they'll put up with anything. Rock on with your bad residency!

Haha...that's what we thought at first. But it's actually done really nice. Plus, our class has made so much money that it's free for everyone.

Hey you Cinci guys, vote for a new mayor once you get there. This guy can't throw.

God damn, I hope that slipped from his hand.
How can somone throw that poorly!?
And if you can't throw at all, it is probably not a good idea to agree to throw out the first pitch on what I assume was the opening day.

That video is hilarious. I watched it a few times already.

I love the reaction of the guy in the suit who was supposed to catch the ball. I also liked how the mayor tried to play it off.

Wow...I'm sure the Reds will be just as bad this year. I'm going to be buying some SF Giants tix to watch my boy BB hit some HRs.

Yes...I was cracking up at that especially.

My new Sr. resident on my sub-i is actually giving me autonomy, which I like. I'm actually able to see the patient myself and formulate a plan, then discuss it with the attending. That being said, i actually had to work hard today which was a shock to the system considering I haven't really worked since August.

I'll say this though...as much as I am against learning with only 3 weeks left in my medical school career...I got my first taste of actually learning for my patients, as opposed to learning for an eval, LOR, grade, etc. It's liberating to learn for the sake of learning, and realizing that I have no where to be at this point (don't have to rush home to study, there will be plenty of partying and enjoying myself in the next few days, etc.). I'll admit, it was a great feeling and am looking forward to having more of that once residency starts.

I'm watching last night's episode of 24. Man the plots are getting repetitive. This is the second time that a VP has tried to take over the presidency by a cabinet vote. Weak

It's about time somebody put you to work 😀 So are they going to give you the day off to go up to campus tomorrow? I'm on ICM, brain is off, so tomorrow is like an extra day of work but I'll be there to pay it forward 🙂

Hey are you done on the 20th?

I haven't watched it yet, but this season is a lot like last season. They need to have next season away from LA, maybe like season 2 when Jack was undercover in South America.

I just thought I would let everyone know that Holly lost the baby. 🙁 My company was nice enough to pay for round trip plane tickets from Kentucky to Saginaw so I could come up and be with her for a couple of days.

She's doing much better....as for me, I was doing pretty good once I was able to see her and make sure she was alright.

I'm sorry to hear that DKM. I can't imagine how hard of a situation that is for the two of you. 🙁

DKM; I am so sorry for your loss. My husband and I lost two babies before having the three kids we have now. It is never easy... and I feel very blessed to have my children, even though they are now having a 3-way screaming fight and my husband is late from work. Take care of yourself and
Holly.

My condolences to you as well DKM, I hope the best for the two of you.
