dt88, these guys have great advice for you. I was in the same boat as you (2.62 cum GPA, math/sci pre-reqs similar), but I redid some courses and earned solid A's in the advanced science courses. I would say your chances of getting accepted to any of those schools is slim to none because it is such a competitive area. Write the PCAT and do exceptionally well on them (min. 80th percentile in everything), take a few more courses and get at least a B+ in it, if not A, and apply early. Those tips worked for me, and I got in. Also, you will need to consider out-of-state schools simply because even with those improvements, your chances are still slim. Work hard, and you can do it. Good luck!

Alright. Your GPA looks solid and you've got a lot of ECs and community service. Your PCAT however is dismal. I don't know if Montana requires the PCAT but every school I know that does require the PCAT generally has a minimum of 50th composite score. Hopefully you did much better the second time around.

I know the PCAT average of the Fall 2007 Montana class was 78th percentile. Your GPA is stellar, but a composite of 32% will really hurt your application. Hopefully you've improved the 2nd time around. Good luck!

Well, the fact that your GPA is sub 3.0 may give you a problem. However it isn't so low that you stand no chance. As long as you research a school that requires a low minimum, you'll be fine. You've shown a marked improvement in your grades and an upward trend, which always looks good.

I think any type of community service, hospital volunteer work or even shadowing pharmacists look good. A lot of schools want to see you are taking an interest in the profession, not just taking the required classes.

I don't think you have anything to worry about tannermt. It sounds like your only possible "weak" point is your PCAT, but that is about average for people who get accepted. Everything else is strong.

Thanks for your feedback. I am applying for Fall 2010. I have more science and math courses I am taking to finish my degree so hopefully, I will be able to raise both gpa calculations. I have been preparing for the PCAT so I will take that this year. I am going to try to add more pharmacy shadowing and working hours and I am actually starting an after school program at the elementary school I volunteer at to help expose children to more science. I have other stuff that will be lists in the EC/Hobby catergory so I hope all of that helps. If you have any more suggestions, please let me know.

Percussion, your PCAT is a maybe a bit low so hopefully you improved. Your GPA and the rest of your app sound good. I think you good get in somewhere. My suggestion would be to make sure you are well prepared for your interviews as that will always help you out.

Sungieality, your GPA is good. All your experiences and the rest of your app sound strong. I think you should apply for 2010 since you still have quite a bit of time to get some pharm experience. You don't need too much as a good portion of people accepted to pharm school do not have experience. If you want to work, then go to a retail pharm. If you want to do volunteering or shadowing, then a hospital or possibly an independent would be your best options. You can probably get in somewhere.

If you did well in those pharm classes you took, that is a great plus because it shows you are capable of the caliber needed for pharm school. pcproduct, there's not a whole lot to say about your chances right now since the only thing you know is your GPA. However, if you keep that GPA you will definitely be competitive if you also do well on the other parts of your app.

pharmcho, your GPA is a little on the low end but not too bad. Doing well on the PCAT, say mid 80s or higher, will help you out. You have a lot of pharm experience, so that is good. I can't necessarily say the 2 science courses and math course every semester will bump you up because most people generally take similar loads. You are going to need more than 1 LOR, so get to know some professors in this next semester if you don't have someone else lined up already. There are some tips in the pre-pharm FAQs about improving your chances, but generally apply early, work hard on your essay, and improve your interview skills.

I got interviews with a Prereq GPA of 3.15 and an overall GPA of 3.22 so you can always try and then if it doesn't work retake the classes. I do not know how heavily schools weigh if you have a bachelors degree or not but i am sure that it is a factor. I say graduate and retake the classes you did bad in but that is just me.

It really depends on which schools you're applying to and (if needed) how you do/did on the PCAT. Right now, there's no reason to not upgrade 2 classes along with your other 3, if that's what you want to do. Either way, graduating is the most important thing right now. Good luck!

Assuming you get A's in all of your C classes and an >80 on your PCAT, your chances will be better. Even though schools have a minimum GPA, you certainly don't want to be right at the minimum. That just means that unless you've got an ace up your sleeve, you will receive minimal consideration. Don't take this the wrong way, but C's in all of your math/science classes isn't a good sign. One C, maybe two could be your adjustment to college life, etc. However, in ALL of your math/science classes? Maybe that should tell you that pharmacy isn't the direction you should be going in.

e. PCAT: 88 composite
bio and math were 92 and 94, chem was 76, reading was 62, and verbal about an 80

f. experience: 1.5 years as pharm tech
g. submitted everything december 2008, deadline was feb 09, already had an interview. seemed to go well, but who knows.

h. 2 LOR: 1 from gen chem professor, 1 from pharmacist
i. 90 hours volunteer work at a hospital

Hello everyone,

I recently had an interview at LECOM -B, and waiting for the decision😴
I took the PCAT in Jan 07 when I only had 1½ years of college and I got a 61 composite, I retook this Jan and now am waiting .... I have plenty of community service and leadership positions on my app, I work for Walgreen's CPhT. (2 Years)
My GPA isn't the best overall:3.36
Science GPA 3.44.

I just want some feedback from you guys, Do you think I will get waitlisted??accepted??

Hey If it makes you feel better, because I personally felt terrible after reading some of these posts, I have a 2.98 cumulative GPA and like a 2.8 math/science gpa, and just got into an accredited pharmacy school a couple of weeks ago. My PCAT composite was 62, but my math and chemistry scores were significantly higher than the others. I think one of the main reasons why I got in ALTHOUGH my gpa is so low is because I go to a very highly ranked university. People really forget that they take that into consideration. My science classes are a lot more difficult at my school compared to a majority of Universities. They really look at the big picture versus numbers. I know if I went to a lower ranked university I would have easily had a 3.5 at least (because I took summer classes at another school and it was a joke). The average gpa for biology majors at my school is a 2.6, so remember if you are attending a competitive university already and you're taking at least 3 science courses, then they may overlook your lower gpa. Just be sure to apply to schools where you can meet the minimum. GOOD LUCK you will get it somewhere if you really keep on trying I have friends with gpas lower than yours and have gotten into UNC-chapel hill school of pharmacy, #2 in the country. Dont stress 🙂

I was an engineering major for a little over a year and got terrible grades. That is the only thing keeping my gpa low.

I would definitely address the low GPA because of engineering major in your personal statements.

My situation is this have 2.88 gpa and a BBA degree ( finance major), never took any science courses at the school I graduated other than Physics which I got an F. Went straight back to school after graduating; took Summer classes at a CUNY - Chem 1 (C+) and Anatomy 1 (C). After I graduated I went to take classes at Touro and they transferred in 76 credits. First semester at Touro I studied my ass off and got a 3.9 gpa for the semester A in BIO 1 and A- in chem 2 and A in a history class. Now this semester I'm retaking chem 1 ( will most likely be an A) and retaking Anatomy which will probably be an A As well; Also taking orgo 1( will try to get an A) and bio 2 ( will try to get an A). My question is; do pharmacy schools average the two grades or do they look at the better grade. If I keep this up and retake physics at my old school; try to get above 80 on Pcats do I have any chance of getting into pharm school. My work experience has been working in a local private chain store for 5 years now. I plan on volunteering this summer and maybe getting my tech license.. I need opinions people thanks
