My boyfriend told me that he's going to follow me where ever I go and get a job to support us. Looks like I may have a husband soon. Does that mean I can then have my very own SDN cabana boy?

Okay, so I got an e-mail from Emory about 2ndary appl. However, they said that they would email it to me. It wasn't part of their email. It's been a couple of days, they still haven't given it to me, does that mean I have to wait until Wednesday? I'm almost done with my Case Western 2ndary appl. Anyone else in the same boat? Also, if there is anyone else applying to Case Western, I just want to go into the regular MD program, but I got confused on their 2ndary appl. I'm applying to the university program right? (ie not the college one). Thanks in advance for the help.

I go to Case undergrad, and haven't started filling it out yet but am familiar with their secondary app.

You might do better asking that in the residency forums. None of us have gone through that yet. I'm still worried about getting in let alone residencies!

From what I understand, not quite as important as USMLE scores and performance during clinical rotations...but it certainly doesn't hurt to be backed up with the name of a prestigious school.

I've got GW and Georgetown waiting for me. Not really essay intensive luckily. I got a comment on my mdapps asking why I wasn't applying to Pritzker; really I just looked through MSAR so obviously nothing struck me about them. Why did you apply?

First, I have to apply to med schools that are close to major naval hospitals, since my wife will be assigned to one of them next year following the completion of her Ob/Gyn residency. Great Lakes Naval Hospital is just north of Chicago.

I like their mission statement...I think their emphasis on diversity in the med school will serve me well since I bring a very unique background to the table.

Finally, I am very impressed with the reputation of their academics and their affiliated hospitals...particularly the children's hospital (Comer), with its level 1 trauma center (I am very interested in pediatric emergency medicine).

Anyone else have families suddenly become oddly unsupportive? Suddenly my family acts like the applications are just a formality and keep asking me where I'm going to school. My sis actually got irritated that I was spending so much on apps (trust me I'm pretty pissed too) Some of them are still trying to figure out why I'm not going in August.

Yes, the parents really aren't quite clued in. Of course, mine don't think I ought to go to medical school; the only moral choice for a woman, in their view, is to stay home with the children.

My parents are the opposite, they STILL want my sisters to become physicians even though both of them are banking in thier jobs 🙄

As for parents not being so supportive, mine have SUDDENLY joined on my bandwagon, my mom wakes me up every morning and asks what I want for breakfast instead of waking me to go study

I cant wait for this all to be over 😉

Me too...I have a couple that I keep coming back to, so I may get started on actually writing the essays tomorrow.

Now...about this abdication business...I'm completely content being the cabana boy of such a sultry pre-med, so there is no chance in hell I am giving that up! 😉

I ended up submitting on the night of the 21st (all my transcripts were there long before). I am hoping to be verfied by the end of next week latest. This is so nerve wracking.

yeah, i'm sure. i just couldn't look over my application any more! i think i really went through it 6 or 7 times to make sure there were no typos/mistakes.

I did too! I think I suffer from OCD! Let's hope it pays off in the end though...I think typos/mistakes are inexcusable at this level!

Some of the pre reqs for various schools are a bit tough to understand--or perhaps I am just dense. Will the schools notifiy you if you do not meet their prereqs? Or do they just reject you. It would seem that you could always make up a questioned prereq during your senior year if your favorite school insisted. For example, many schools want a year of intro bio w/ lab but indicate that you can use AP credits for this but need to take advanced bio courses instead. So, does this mean 1 year of advanced bio with 1 year of lab courses associated with those same didactic courses? Some schools only offer a very few bio courses w/labs past the intro series, so I have many credits of advanced bio but only one course with a lab. I suppose I could go back and retake intro bio w/ lab but that seems a tremendous waste of time and $$$. Do you ask each school or will they alert you if there is a problem. Sorry for being a bit off-topic here but it beats filling out secondaries

Start talking with the schools you are interested in now! They will not reject your app right now due to pre-reqs...as long as you meet them by the time you matriculate, that is all they care about. Let them know your unique situation...if you have upper level biology courses that did not offer a lab, then they may be able to waive that requirement for you.

yeah, i dropped about a grand on my reapplication before finding out that i got into albany, which kind of sucks. but at the same time, if you told me to write a check for a thousand dollars and i'd be in, i would have done it in a heartbeat.
