I just got pulled off of it today as a matter of fact.

Congrats 35FL 👍 when was your interview? I've been placed on the wait list since 4-24. been waiting for good news.

Thanks! I interviewed in January...I believe January 16th.

Has anyone found out where they are living yet? Im living on campus in an apartment hopefully but they still havent contacted me about it... When did u guys find out last year? I sent my app in in mid February. Also, when does the lease start for the apt? I was wondering if i could just set up and stay at my apt when i come up there for orientation on the 13th instead of renting out a separate hotel to save up a little cash...😉

I believe I found out my housing in June. They'll call you to see if you're still interested... if they can't contact you, they'll email you (they chased me down! I was in NZ at the time). The lease dates vary for each person... mine started August 1st, some other classmates had earlier dates, some later. Most people were set up with housing by orientation I believe so that shouldn't be a problem for you.

wow...good things come to those who wait! are you definitely going to jefferson then? or do you other schools in mind?

My question is for current efferson students, what kind of student projects/internships are available to you? Do you have time to squeeze an internship during the year or do you pretty much have to wait 'till the summer to be involved in such projects?

Thanks!

Hi to all my future JSP classmates! Can't wait to meet all of you!!!

we haven't really been introduced to research...but there are a few professors that have taught us that you could probably research under.

as far as working/interning at a pharmacy during the school year...you can definitely squeeze in at LEAST 8 hours a week, but that depends if you want a life outside of school or not

we have a monstrous almost-4-month summer. my recommendation would be to work hard, play harder during the school year and then rack up the cash/intern hours during the summer since it's so long--but that's just me.

btw...why are there only 19 of you guys in the JSP '13 facebook group?

Omg! I got my call yesterday and she told me i got a 2 bdrm apartment in Orlowitz hall, but the lease starts on August 22nd! WTF! If orientation is on the 13th, i wanted to get my apartment earlier so i could set it up and everything that week while i was up there for orientation! i hope they can give me another apartment or move the date a little bit... 🙁

You can stay with me during orientation. =) I'm getting into my 2BR Barringer room before orientation. I will probably have a sofa/bed converter thingy in the living room. Although, I'm leaving for a wedding on the 15th and I'm going to Aruba on the 20th and the residence guidelines say that guests are only permitted when the tenants are there so I wont be able to help you stay up to when your lease starts. But you can definitely stay with me for orientation. 🙂 PM me if you want my contact.

So now i have to wait for them to re-assign me... Hopefully ill be able to get something around orientation date! But ill PM u if something comes up! Thank youuuuu 🙂

Wow.. you guys got your housing assignments already?! I've been anxiously waiting! Gahh...I turned my application in late March (cuz that's when I got accepted) and the lady told me I won't be hearing from them until end of June or after. They were working on January applications! 🙁

On another note, OMG I just got my financial aid package and OMG I'm gonna choke to death on loans. :diebanana:<---that's my future debt and I'm the banana.

I seriously need a scholarship.

Yea, I submitted mine in December right after I had my interview. Because regardless of acceptance, I wanted a good room.

Wow, that's an early lease... but congrats on getting it moved.

I'm not planning on bringing a car. Did you? I figured I really wouldn't be needing one.

I still don't have my housing assignment🙁. I was also planning on moving in prior to orientation...this slight delay is cramping my style:scared:

yeah you don't really need a car, I should bring one and charge to ferry you guys around :meanie:

in all seriousness, you guys can check out www.phillycarshare.org or www.zipcar.com for car sharing options in Philadelphia. It's pretty handy and it doesn't cost too much.

I flew back home to CA...two weeks+ was long enough for me. I arrived the morning of classes...besides, the first week is pretty much nothing anyway (in terms of difficulty) so you'll have time to get things done. I'd fly back if I were you.

Just wanted to update the incoming P1's and future students...

Jefferson was just granted Candidate Status from ACPE =)

Yeah got the email this morning...woohoo! We can sit for NAPLEX! I have a feeling our school is going to be deluged with apps this cycle.

:luck:

Yay!!! We're moving up on the scale! 🙂

Btw i decided im just going to be staying with friends and family up in NJ and Philly for the 2 weeks after orientation, another $300 was just too much for me to put down 🙁

Cant wait to meet everyone at orientation! 😀

Hey RxRabia,

That's exactly what I'm gonna be doing 2 weeks before school starts. I'm moving from CA. Moving in itself is a pain. Finding out that I can't move in prior to orientation is even worse! That's right... I can't move in to Orlowitz until after 8/19 🙁. So, between Orientation and the 19th, I'll be homeless in the eastcoast, I'm thinking I'll stay with friends/family in MD/ NJ. Or we can follow P-2's around like lost little puppies 🙂 Hehe

Same for me. I'm also moving from CA and just found out my housing contract doesn't start until 8/20, so I don't know what I'm going to do for a week seeing as I don't know anyone on the east coast.

yo peeps. you can rent out a place in Martin Residence by the week or by the month. $350 for a week seems like a lot, but you gotta do what you gotta do i guess. those of you that are stuck in philly should pair up and share a temporary apartment in Martin

My friends stayed in that...it was absolute trash. I'll post pictures if I can get a hold of them.

Hey guys!

I noticed that most of you are interested in the apartments at Jefferson and not Martin Hall. Is this dorm a bad place to stay? What do the current students think about Martin hall in general?

Thanks in advance!👍

You get what you pay for, basically. If you really don't care about where you live, it's a great deal. It's also right next to the building you'll have tons of classes (unless they've moved you all for the year).

There really isn't any "great" housing in the area unless you are paying WAY above the median rent price. Most buildings are old/falling apart/have issues (water pressure, drainage, rats, roaches, etc...). A few of my friends have lucked out in nice/renovated units, but most live in "eh" housing. Was debating buying a condo but 4yrs wasn't long enough to hold, then debated renting a row home...but then discovered that utilities ran $200-$300 (asked several sources), which was more than 3x what I paid back home in "expensive" CA. Low/high rise apartments with utilities included are your best bet IMO.

Word of warning: My bias is that I have lived in relatively new construction all my life, so coming to this city was a total shock. I had no idea buildings this old (without any real historic factor to them) were kept around. I guess razing buildings just because they're old isn't the norm around here 👎

i agree with the above poster. don't expect to find luxury apartments here within a normal price range. in general, apartments within a normal range are pretty old...but if you aren't nitpicky, it shouldn't be a problem

martin residence, i've been told, is a ****hole.
orlowitz is decent.
barringer is slightly better than orlowitz, but it's no paradise either.

you could also rent a house. 2 of my friends are renting a very small 2 bedroom house together right down the street from jefferson and their rent is around 825 dollars a month.

Thanks for the replies! I was just curious about Martin Hall because I dont hear to many students on here taking about this dorm. I was looking at the private renovated rooms in Martin Hall on the second floor and was interested in getting one of those rooms. Do you guys know if Martin Hall is known for having roaches or rats?

I live in Barringer and like it a lot. I've been lucky to be in an apt that hasn't had any problems besides needing to change the lights... (well had one cockroach the entire year, but killed it) haha. I have some friends in Orlo that have had toilet/drainage issues. But then I've also heard about rats/roach problems in other apartments in Barringer... so I guess you either get lucky or you don't. I've never been into one of those Martin dorms but I know that its just like a dorm: communal bathrooms... virtually no type of kitchen (not one you'd want to cook in regularly anyways).
I think for most of us its a hassle not having a kitchen since Jeff doesn't really have a dinning hall... you'd have to eat out a lot or microwave your food. If you don't mind that then I think Martin would be ok to live in. I don't know about rats/roaches in Martin but i'm sure its there... they're kinda everywhere in Philly... and they're HUGE. Another friend has told me the newly renovated Martin rooms are nice.

Question for current Jefferson students. I heard the lectures are mainly on powerpoint slides.... so do most students print at the library or do they buy their own printer? If I should buy a printer, what do you recommend?... I don't really need a fancy one, just a basic printer that prints mainly text documents, slides, etc.., in affordable black ink!

Some people are old school and print their lectures...I'd recommend a basic B&W laser printer for <$80. I have the Brother HL-2170W which typically goes on sale for $60-$80 periodically, those random Samsung laser printers also work. B&W lasers will give you the best cost per page out there (the starter toner cartridge lasted me all year).

The only time I printed lectures were for pathophysiology I & II the in-class cases were open note. Kind of sucked, I printed them "just in case" and rarely used them, so I ended up with a stack of paper notes that I just tossed right after since all my stuff is electronic (obviously no laptops allowed).

If you get that HL-2170W, I'll show you a hack to extend the starter cartridge life, it involves sticking some strategic tape over the unit.

no1 apply here....... so i can get in..........

lol, is it really that hard to write "no one" vs "no1"....this isn't a text message.

And goodluck with that next year, this school is candidate status now, the applicant pool will most likely double.

double??? damn it...
my friend goes here and says is a very good school. question: i know everyone says to apply early but if i appy early, wouldnt i be going against people who are usually on top of their game, GPA wise, so itll be harder to get in? I know this school has rolling admissions but keeps adding students until its class is filled.

so should i apply late august? or wait? kinda a dumb question cuz i know the answer is apply late august...

It's probably better to apply late august. That being said, if you're application isn't what you want it to be, take a little more time working on it before you send it out. I actually sent my application a day or two before February. Had my interview in March and acceptance to TJU early April. So it definately is possible to get into a school if you apply late, but not recommended.
